JDon Heights “Run E Town” With New Single

The Bronx-based Dancehall Artist JDon Heights is a giant in the streets, and he’s working on further maintaining his presence. Having some time off from music, he returned to the scene recently, and got back on his grind. Hungry for success, he’s ready for the takeover in, “Run E Town“.

Produced by TopRanks Entertainment/Rich Talent Production/One Lee Records, JDon Heights is busy getting to the money, living it up, and still keeping a few rounds stashed just in case the opps try to invade his space. The Deejay mixes melodic deliveries with strong lyrics, and he’s not in the business of anything that doesn’t involve serious money making. He emphasizes his message with a SM Films-directed music video, and whether he’s in The Bronx or in Jamaica, he’s connecting with his money team, and furthering his motives. JDon Heights’ return was met with positive feedback as the music video secured over 100k views on Youtube following its premiere this past weekend. With this in mind, we can expect even more releases from the Deejay. Money is the motive, time to make some.

How many of you grew up in the Caribbean in the 90s? Do you remember the days of being on the landline for hours conversing with your love interest? For the 2000s there were “Free Nights” and “Free Texts“, but being on the home phone was something different, until the phone bill came. While we’re here, Recording Artist Lila Ike has cooked up something for us to enjoy. She takes us back with something “Romantic“.

Produced by Juls and Dunw3ll and featuring Masicka, Lila Ike takes us back to the 90s with the single, “Romantic”. Sampling Lady Patra’s 1993 classic “Romantic Call“, Lila gives us some new with respect to a classic that even Dancehall Royalty co-signed. The single has us reminiscing about simpler times when you had a crush on someone, and when you get the digits, you’re conjuring lyrics to win over that person (sometimes participating in a “3-Way” phone call to seal the deal). In the Shane Creative-directed video, we get retro fashion, Lila’s signature energy, Masicka’s vibes and nostalgia throughout. Recently, Lila Ike announced that she will be releasing her new album, “Treasure Self Love” in August, and with her track record of infectious singles, we know this project will be a hit. Time to dust off the landline.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Foxy Brown – Oh Yeah (2001)

Closing off the Month of June with another “Oldies Sunday“ selection in recognition of “Caribbean American Heritage Month“. For today’s post, we go back to the 2000s to check Rapper Foxy Brown’s “Oh Yeah“.

Produced by Eddie Scoresazy and featuring Dancehall/Reggae Artist Spragga Benz, “Oh Yeah” was Foxy Brown’s assertion that she’s a Queen in Hip Hop, speaking her mind on a few observations, and display her dominance in the scene. Released through Def Jam Records in 2001, the track sampled “54-46 That’s My Number” by Toots and The Maytals, and interpolated “Punky Reggae Party” by Bob Marley and The Wailers. “Oh Yeah” was also a part of the launch of Brown and Benz’s relationship at the time, and it was further evidenced in the music video that was directed by Director X (then known as Little X). “Oh Yeah” was the first single of Brown’s 2001 album “Broken Silence“, but it was not successful when it was released. The track charted very low on Billboard, and was receiving little airplay on Radio. Despite this, it built its buzz in the streets through Mixtapes including a version with alternate lyrics on a DJ Envy-hosted “Best Of Foxy Brown” Mixtape, and live performances.

Since the release of “Oh Yeah”, Foxy Brown’s career had a number of setbacks. While she found success shortly after the release, she would find herself battling court cases, being dropped by Def Jam, slow to release music, and dealt with hearing loss. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Brown is of Dougla (Afro-Trini and Indo-Trini mix) and Chinese-Trinidadian descent. She shows her love for Trinidad and Tobago in a number of songs and media moments, along with namedropping Jamaica, but that has to do with her growing up in the melting pot of cultures in Brooklyn. She is a multi-platinum selling Hip Hop Artists, and one of the “Queens of New York Hip Hop“. She is recognized during Caribbean-American Heritage Month, and “Oh Yeah” went on to become of her signature tracks.
