If you know you’re grateful for the blessings, put up your hands right now and give thanks! Recording Artist Koffee has been on a roll in such a short span of time. Since her tribute to Usain Bolt going viral, she has been enjoying a massive buzz thanks to her singles that followed. We’ve shown her love as one of the female Artists you should watch out for earlier this year, and she’s climbing to the highest peak. With the announcement of her signing to Columbia Records recently, we know she has a lot in store to present to the world. Kicking off 2019 early, she unleashed her major label debut track titled, “Toast“! Produced by Izy Beats and Walshy Fire, we find Koffee speaking on her progress so far, giving thanks for the blessings that have followed, and of course entertaining us with her unique delivery. We also get a video which features cameos from Chronixx and Protoje, and is shot in the style of old school home videos thanks to Xavier Damase. Gratitude is a must. Off the soon to be released “Rapture EP“, check out the track below, and share with a friend. Show us some love on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.
In case you didn’t know, popular Afrobeat Recording Artist Mr. Eazi released the 2nd volume in his “Life Is Eazi” mixtape series. With a blend of new sounds and familiar names, this project is one to keep on repeat. One of the familiar names that appears on the project is Jamaica’s own Chronixx on the track “She Loves Me“. With a rather upbeat production, the duo speak on the roller coaster loving they each experience with their respective love interests. A song many can relate to as mixed signals can be a detriment to a budding relationship, and then there are those who have ulterior motives. Be careful as to not let another person misuse your love. Mr. Eazi’s project is out now, but you can check out “She Loves Me” below (be sure to share with a friend). Show us some love on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.
August 6, 2018 marks 56 years since Jamaica became an independent Nation. Today, Jamaica’s rich culture is heralded the world over, and there’s no shortage of what we have to offer. The Champagne is all done, the party favors are boxed up, and many are still hungover, but welcome to 2018! While we look forward to another year filled with new developments, we have a few predictions we want to put out there. We aren’t Nostradamus, but let’s see if the stars are aligned in Entertainment.

1. Chronixx wins the “Best Reggae Album” Grammy
With the 60th Grammy Awards coming up later this month, many Artists and viewers will be tuned in to see if their favourite will be carrying home a shiny prize. In Reggae music, we predict that the “Dread & Terrible” Artist, Chronixx, will carry home the award for “Best Reggae Album” for his project “Chronology”. This win will see him beating out fellow nominees like Damian Marley, Morgan’s Heritage, J Boog, and Common Kings! This would be a huge look for the Artist, and give the album even more attention. Maybe a Grammy tour as well? Let’s see.
2. Vybz Kartel will be successful in his Appeal hearing.
Since 2011, we’ve heard the phrase “Free Kartel!”, and it will not stop anytime soon. Vybz Kartel has more than a cult following, and it doesn’t help when he can still release songs while incarcerated. It was reported over the past couple years that his Defense team will file an appeal in the conviction of Kartel and 3 of his associates who are all serving life sentences. Despite numerous delays, it was reported that his hearing will be held in July 2018. If he wins, things might be shaken up a bit. Free Ninja Man too.
As 2017 comes to a close, we look back at a few songs that were favourites on the Blog for the year. While we can’t name EVERY one, we’ll give you 5 (in no particular order so hold off on the ego) to reminisce on, or get familiar with.
Our second to last pick today comes from the “Dread and Terrible” Chronixx with “Christina“! The single is track #15 off his Grammy nominated debut Album, “Chronology” which was released in July. Featuring Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor as the Producer, and contribution from Blues Guitar legend Donald Kinsey, Chronixx speaks on believing in himself and working towards his dreams despite facing opposition from his then partner, Christina. The message in this is to never let anything stop you from pursuing your dreams. Leave those that doubt in the back, and move forward. A video for this would be lovely (tell Chronixx and his Manager Daddi Barnz that we have some ideas) however. If you missed our previous picks, check them out here. Hear “Christina” below!
Thank you for representing Jamaica. Thank you for being a Caribbean representative. You made moves that some would’ve said were unattainable. You’ve embraced your own beauty, and the world loved you. You stand tall with many Beauty Queens before you that have donned the “Jamaica” sash, and you’ve brought our culture to another big platform. You have carried yourself well.
As you continue your journey, remember you’re doing this for the little girl who was teased because her hair was “nappy”, the young woman who was refused opportunities because she was “too dark”, for those who were told “Jamaicans can’t do anything good”, let them see you shine on the world stage and show them that they can do anything that their heart wishes.
Always remember to be true to who you are. Don’t ever be afraid of showing the world that you don’t have to be from a big city, having the big name, be of a lighter complexion, having the straightest of hair to achieve greatness. We are proud to have had Queens with their unique flair over the years, so now you show people that the afro is YOUR Crown!
From Steve Harvey trying to hold his excitement when conversing with you, to your outfits capturing the attention of many, to the chants of “JAMAICA” in the audience, to your name being on all the headlines…
YOU ARE THE PEOPLE’S QUEEN!
Thank You, Davina Bennett.
