December 31st will be a night for the books and more as Dancehall Artist Vybz Kartel will headline his highly-anticipated “Freedom Street” Concert. Since his release from Prison on July 31, fans have been awaiting the day he takes the stage, and deliver his hits for them. The announcement of the Concert came this past August, and updates about the venue, the date, and what to expect have been shared and hinted. Earlier today, the public got a lot more information at the official Press Conference.

Vybz Kartel joined Joe Bogdanovich and “Skatta” Burrell of Downsound Records, and more on stage at Janga’s Sports Bar as valuable updates on “Freedom Street” were shared. For those who were eager to know what the lineup would be like, Kartel shared that his sons Likkle Addi and Likkle Vybz, Skillibeng, and Spice are confirmed to share the stage with him. Busta Rhymes, longtime friend and collaborator would make an appearance at the event, and possible appearances by Drake, Popcaan, and fellow Portmore Empire members were mentioned. Updates for more lineup additions would be shared in the coming weeks on Social Media. For those wondering what the “World Boss” would do in terms of performing, he shared that the show would be split into different eras, and songs from his “Black Kartel” days, the “War Angel” era, the “World Boss” times, and his incarcerated time would be performed. As a bonus for Concert goers, Downsound Records will have a “Black Friday” sale on November 29 and 30 that will slash 50% off tickets for those who missed out on the early bird specials.

In addition to the Concert, Vybz Kartel also officially launched his “Str8 Vybz Rum” line. With three variations offered, Vybz will bring fans back to the days of “Street Vybz Rum“, and introduce a new audience to his entrepreneurial side. The Rum is already on shelves at select locations, and he plans to bring it to even more parts of the world in the coming months.

The world is ready for Vybz Kartel, and “Freedom Street” is just the beginning.

The 2000s in Dancehall Music was an era that can never be duplicated. There were local and International crossovers, the ascension of Deejays who went on to become legends, and lots of good vibes and energy. It was in the mid 2000s that the world warmed up to a young Producer by the name of Stephen McGregor. The son of the legendary Freddie McGregor was determined to carve his own path in music, and the determination won. When he got his start, there was no stopping him, and he made hits with everyone. From Mavado, to Vybz Kartel, to Laden, to Agent Sasco, to Nicky B, to his brother Chino McGregor, the world got familiar to the sounds of “Di Genius“. There’s a lot of history in that Big Ship Studio. The years that followed saw a shift in the music Industry as MP3s and CDs soon gave way to Digital Music Streaming, and a number of those Di Genius hits never crossed over. In 2024, after lots of work, Stephen has made it a reality with the release of “The Recovered Files” album.

Featuring 20 classic tracks, Di Genius restored some of our favourites from the 2000s on “The Recovered Files” compilation album. We get music from a Vybz Kartel who was in heading into a new level of prime, a young Aidonia who was venomous on a Riddim, Chino who found his pocket and cruised over his brother’s productions, the rise of the “Gully Gad” Mavado, a young firecracker that was Blak Ryno, and more. Fans will fall in love with the “Darker Shadow Riddim“, recite some Gaza Commandments, reflect on their allegiances to Gaza, Gully, and J.O.P., and enjoy the work of Di Genius over and over on their favourite streaming platform. We believe “The Recovered Files” will be the start of a series of restorations and releases in the coming months, and with Di Genius at the helm, we know it will be a celebration every time. While that may be true, but according to Vybz Kartel, a party is not a party without some of his specially-labeled alcoholic beverage. Fans will remember the days of “Street Vybz Rum” and its popularity, but the Deejay recently announced that he’s bringing back the liquor, but under a new name, “Str8 Vybz“. While it’s not officially out yet, he celebrates with the release of the new single, “White Rum (Special)“.

Released through Vybz Kartel Muzik, Vybz Kartel is in a drinking mood, and he invites you to get your cups up in “White Rum (Special)”. The new track gives fans a feeling of nostalgia, as he previously had hits that focused on liquor. If you like your drink straight or with a chaser, it’s all good in the party, as long as you’re having a good time. With the return of “Street Vybz Rum” (now named “Str8 Vybz”), there will be lots of toasting, sipping, and vibing come this holiday season. Remember to drink responsibly.

Likkle Addi & Vybz Kartel Run The League In “M.O.T.M (Man Of The Match)”

The Dancehall world has been enjoying the day to day life of Vybz Kartel, and the inclusion of his many co-stars. Plenty of these co-stars have been heavily campaigning for his release over the years and kept his name alive, and those include his sons Likkle Addi, Likkle Vybz, and Aiko. The sons have been busy with their own music as well, and they’ve managed to build their respective fanbases. With the release of Kartel, there will be a lot more collaborations, including “M.O.T.M (Man Of The Match)“.

Featuring Likkle Addi and produced by Uptown Gaza Records, “M.O.T.M” is a “like father like son” track that finds the duo solidifying their presence in Dancehall, and while Vybz Kartel is an enigma, he believes his sons will be just as great, if not greater than him. The accompanying Music Video, directed by CVE, finds Kartel, Addi, and Likkle Vybz ruling the pitch as “Gaza City FC” to adoring Cheerleaders, enjoying the spoils of their labour, and we even see Kartel suiting up like Marlon Samuels for a game of Cricket. Good to see the World Boss physically present with his children, and the Palmers boys are up to something, so stay tuned.

We all love food, some more than others, but there’s nothing like a meal that’s yours to enjoy. Whatever your style and taste, food has been there more than people in some cases. Food is enjoyed on a different level according to Dancehall Entertainer Grampa Entatain, and he talks about it in, “Food Specialist“.

Featuring Dr. Planks, it’s all about the good food in Grampa Entatain’s “Food Specialist”. Grampa enjoys a variety of food while Planks leans more into the Ital way of life, but they know what’s important when it comes to putting in work in the Kitchen, and they and whoever they feed will be satisfied. For those unfamiliar, “Food Specialist” is a remix of Vybz Kartel and Beenie Man’s 2004 hit, “Breast Specialist“. The track was produced by Tony Matterhorn and Mario C on the “Scoobay Riddim“, and is given new life in 2024 thanks to Grampa Entatain. The track is accompanied by a Music Video directed by Clevamix Recordz, and it finds the Artists cheffing up a number of dishes, and feeding the household in the end. Grampa Entatain has been active with a number of original music and remixes over the years, and has been a hit whenever he’s called up to perform. This one is for the foodies. It has been over a month since Vybz Kartel has experienced life as a free Man, and things have been looking up ever since. From reuniting with family, friends, and fans, everyday is a new adventure for the Man who described 13 years in Prison as “Hell“. With a highly-anticipated Concert on the way, it’s only right he gets back into the music making groove without being confined to a cell under watch by wardens. Today, he premieres, “The Comet“.

Produced by Vybz Kartel Muzik, Vybz Kartel makes his official return with, “The Comet”. He steps out with bold statements, enjoying the success he has amassed over the years, reflected on moments behind bars, throws shots as those who didn’t want to see his freedom, and shared that he is back to take over the place. The accompanying Music Video, which was directed by CVE, highlights the day he stepped out of Prison, sees him cruising the streets with his Lady Sidem, showing off a few of his accomplishments, and capturing his presence as the “World Boss” throughout. The new era of Vybz Kartel is here, and he’s ready for more.
