After adding an extra flame to an already hot Summer with the single, the “Dungeon Dragon” Busta Rhymes finally dropped the highly anticipated visual for his Tory Lanez and Vybz Kartel featured, “Girlfriend“! Directed by Benny Boom and Busta Rhymes, this features a star studded cast from some of the biggest names in Dancehall (Spice, Ninja Man, Foota Hype, Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, Junior Reid, Ravers Clavers) as Busta Rhymes takes a trip to Jamaica with Spliff Star to build a vibe with friends. Lots of phone calls, dancing, and good vibes in this one. Vybz Kartel continues to make moves despite his situation, but imagine if he was free? He would be touring off these guest features. No more talking, it’s time to press play! Watch the video below.
We salute the “Stage Show Boss” in this post. As the saying goes, “Give people Flowers while they can still smell them”. Big up Spice!
The Throne for the Dancehall Queen is currently vacant, and there could only be one who ascends to claim her rightful place at the top of Dancehall. The genre is now in the Era of “The Spicy 1“, and though her given name is Grace Latoya Hamilton, we know her as Spice! Never been far from the spotlight, Spice proved time and time again that she’s in a lane of her own with no contenders. From acting, to singing, deejaying, to dancing, she’s multifaceted and continues to have an edge among her peers.
Since her debut, Spice has always been one to push boundaries in Dancehall as a Female Artist. She will always be known for being different whether it be for the colour of her hair, her unique outfits, or her many stand out singles. Among her Dancehall peers, she has never been afraid to outperform them, whether male or female. Her various Clash appearances, “War” records and counteractions are proof of this. Bounty Killer, one of her earliest mentors, hailed her as one of the “Baddest” acts before she even scored her first hit.
Spice is a woman who wears many hats. She is a Dancehall Artist, an Actress, a Style Icon, a Mother, and now a Reality Show Star? Well she dabbled a little in the latter as she made an appearance in the newest episode of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta! Here she played host for the series regulars Mimi Faust and Karlie Redd as they took a trip to Jamaica. How did they link up? You have to watch this episode to get your answer and more! Big up Grace Hamilton a.k.a. Spice! Check out the video below.
In this post we pay tribute to the 5 Star General because…we have to give people flowers while they can still smell them. Bless up Bounty!
Rodney Price, more popularly known as Bounty Killa, could be easily called the “Godfather of Dancehall” or the “The Modern Day Dancehall Daddy” based on his musical family tree. His Alliance Music Group started out of Killa’s love for music, which in return gave some of the best Dancehall acts the world has ever seen, namely Busy Signal, Wayne Marshall, Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Kiprich, Bling Dawg, and Aidonia. Outside of his group however, he also introduced us to many others including Spice, Twin of Twins, Cham, and Elephant Man (he was first discovered with his “Scare Dem Crew” members in the mid 90s). In 2011 Bounty made another addition by forming the Alliance Next Generation (A.N.G.) which gave us Iyara, Patexx, Marlon Binns, Kalado, Bridgez, Nymron, Assailant, K-Queens, Prince Pin, Dadda, Venon, Askel, Boom Steppa, 300 and many others. Bounty also lent his ear to Production labels like Pay Day Music, Echo One Productions, and DASECA Music (which is responsible for acts like Serani, Bugle, Dexta Daps, and Raine Seville). The list of names however, continues to grow.
Reggae Sumfest Dancehall night was a success for fresh on the scene, hit maker, Don Andre. He celebrated the top Dancehall collaboration of the year alongside Ding Dong and Chi Ching Ching with a well-received high-energy performance. He also performed his new track Jog honoring Usain Bolt while flying the Jamaican flag high.
Later in the show Spice hurled insults at the fast-rising star. Don Andre is very displeased that she used his record in her set in an attempt to publicly insult his style and sexual preference. According to the artiste this is what happens with success, there is always someone who will try to bring you down.
“Anywhere there is success there is always a hater trying to stop it. Tom Cruise is in high rotation in several countries and the most popular Dancehall move right now. I just got an award from veteran sound system Stone Love to endorse that.
Spice needs to just leave me alone and work on getting an up to date number one song like, Tom Cruise. Her last number one was two years ago. Right now she’s working desperately in the streets for a song to hit like Tom Cruise.
Spice needs to find back her gear; she’s running out of steam. She should focus on her botched assets and figure out how she’s going to get them corrected and leave me out of her loose arguments,” Don Andre says.
Don Andre is billed to appear at Philadelphia Jerk Festival on August 28th in Fairmount Park.
