OLDIES SUNDAY: Love Joys – All I Can Say (1981)

It’s a new month, and we’re glad to be here providing music for you to enjoy on “Oldies Sunday“. Since its inception, we’ve highlighted classic singles, guilty pleasures, underrated hits, and allowed our audience to get familiar with music they’ve never heard before. This Sunday is no different as today we feature UK-based Reggae duo Love Joys, and their single, “All I Can Say“.

Produced by Lloyd Barnes a.k.a. Bullwackie for the Wackie’s label and released in 1981, Love Joys were all about making the world a better place in “All I Can Say”. The cousin duo of Sonia Abel and Claudette Brown encouraged listeners to live a better life, call out those who do wrong, and hope and pray that things get better for us all. Over some solid production, the pair deliver conscious messages along with some melodies. “All I Can Say” was featured on their 1981 album, “Reggae Vibes“, and their official 1982 debut album “Lovers Rock (Reggae Style)“. The song became a hit for the duo, and became known in Jamaica, and various parts of the world. It was sampled in 2024 by Texas Rapper BigXThaPlug for his track “Havin Freestye“, which featured Ro$ama and Yung Hood, and produced by Tony Coles. “All I Can Say” was also featured on hit Video Game “Saints Row” through the in-game radio station.

Since the release of “All I Can Say”, not much was heard from Love Joys. The duo was recognized as one of the first all-Female Roots Reggae groups, but they disbanded in the 1980s. In the 2000s, Sonia Abel (now Sonia “Marla” Allen) would create the duo Natti Love Joys with her Husband Anthony “Jatti” Allen. “All I Can Say” is still remembered by fans, and “Saints Row” gamers.

.@DiGenius1 Brings Dancehall Classics To Streaming With “The Recovered Files” Album

The 2000s in Dancehall Music was an era that can never be duplicated. There were local and International crossovers, the ascension of Deejays who went on to become legends, and lots of good vibes and energy. It was in the mid 2000s that the world warmed up to a young Producer by the name of Stephen McGregor. The son of the legendary Freddie McGregor was determined to carve his own path in music, and the determination won. When he got his start, there was no stopping him, and he made hits with everyone. From Mavado, to Vybz Kartel, to Laden, to Agent Sasco, to Nicky B, to his brother Chino McGregor, the world got familiar to the sounds of “Di Genius“. There’s a lot of history in that Big Ship Studio. The years that followed saw a shift in the music Industry as MP3s and CDs soon gave way to Digital Music Streaming, and a number of those Di Genius hits never crossed over. In 2024, after lots of work, Stephen has made it a reality with the release of “The Recovered Files” album.

Featuring 20 classic tracks, Di Genius restored some of our favourites from the 2000s on “The Recovered Files” compilation album. We get music from a Vybz Kartel who was in heading into a new level of prime, a young Aidonia who was venomous on a Riddim, Chino who found his pocket and cruised over his brother’s productions, the rise of the “Gully Gad” Mavado, a young firecracker that was Blak Ryno, and more. Fans will fall in love with the “Darker Shadow Riddim“, recite some Gaza Commandments, reflect on their allegiances to Gaza, Gully, and J.O.P., and enjoy the work of Di Genius over and over on their favourite streaming platform. We believe “The Recovered Files” will be the start of a series of restorations and releases in the coming months, and with Di Genius at the helm, we know it will be a celebration every time. What’s your favourite Riddim from Di Genius?

Jahmiel Finds Himself In “Nirvana” On 3rd Album

Jahmiel is one of the greats, and it’s very evident in his work. For close to two decades, he has been dropping captivating music, and whether he’s singing about reality, love, or sharing stories from the streets, he found the audience for them. He continues to connect with more people around the world, and he’s not slowing down on the work ethic. This time around, he takes us to “Nirvana” with his new album.

Featuring 12 tracks, Jahmiel expands on his artistry on his 3rd studio album, “Nirvana”. He still delivers music with relatable themes and lyrics, but he taps into various sounds here. From Dancehall, to Reggae, to Amapiano, to Pop, he didn’t slouch in the studio. Production on “Nirvana” is mostly handled by Quantanium Records/Patriotz Muzik, but RockIt Muzik makes an appearance on one track. No guest features here, but if there’s a possibility of a remix of some of the album’s tracks featuring some of our favourite Artists, we’re here for it. The Man who started out as a “Little Lion” is now a giant in Jamaican music, and his new album is another chapter of a great story. Join him in Nirvana.

Pablo YG Channels NinjaMan In “Clean” Video

Dancehall Artist Pablo YG continues to maintain his presence in the music scene, and he’s elevating his game. He has secured a number of hits, but has also taken his music to different stages in various parts of the world. He’s not the global household name yet, but he’s working his way up to that level. One thing for sure, like his new music video, he stays “Clean“.

Directed by DaManiac Visualz, Pablo YG ensures he’s fresh everyday in “Clean”. Starting off the video, he channels Dancehall legend NinjaMan’s classic 2003 Interview with Media Personality/Attorney At Law Emily Crooks-Shields. The clip finds YG being interviewed by Media Personality/Brand Manager Jade McGhie about his image, and it continues in between shots of the “Bad Juvi” picking out some fits, and performing his track. “Clean” was produced by Krush Flo Records/Spinaz YG Muzik, and we can expect this one to make some noise moving forward. As they say, “Nuh dirt, everyting clean!“.

Navino "Prayers Up" on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #Dancehall #Music #13thStreetPromotions #Navino #DamageMusiq #PrayersUp #SpiritualWarefare #SpiritualWarfareRiddim #Caribbean

.@The_RealNavino Promotes Positive Messages With “Prayers Up”

Dancehall Music has always been a place where different minds step forth to share stories, share experiences, and promote various messages. While the messages are either good or bad, there is an audience for either of them. Over the years, the genre has welcomed an abundance of acts who have chosen to promote lifestyles that aren’t ethical through their lyrical content. Some promote criminal activities, others promote lifestyles that go against the upbringing of many. With Jamaica being a Christian country, there have been groups that rallied against the content, emphasizing that it’s ungodly, and should be taken off the airwaves. The Artists that perform these songs however, are pushing back with the defense that it’s free speech. While that battle goes underway, Dancehall Artist Navino is taking a different route, and chooses to promote a positive message on the single, “Prayers Up”.

Produced by Damage Musiq on the “Spiritual Warfare Riddim”, Navino walks with God, and he’s leading the charge for the right things on “Prayers Up”. His path doesn’t require him to make music with certain messages like some of his peers, and he can’t go against what is right to make content that glorifies the devil, and acts of evil. His journey is not an easy one, but he is determined to do the right things even when the forces around seek to corrupt him. Navino aims to make music that uplifts, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. “Prayers Up” is a change from the new norm of music being released, and has been receiving great feedback since its debut, with many highlighting the positive messages. The Artist looks to influence more of his peers to follow the path with the content, and encourages listeners to make the right moves for a positive change as the country has had its share of corruption, crime, and violence, and they need to be done away with. A campaign is currently underway to promote the single to various platforms.
