.@RieOsei Steps Out From Behind The Mask In “Simon Says”

When it comes to love and relationships, there is a lot of good, but also a lot of bad. Some people live their best lives in love, others lose themselves due to mistreatment and deception. For those lost, some find themselves and flourish, others are not so lucky. For Ghana/Chicago-based Recording Artist Rie Osei, her experience in a relationship put her in a place that she needed to get out of. She talks about it in, “Simon Says“.

Produced by Portia Brajkovic for OWIA, Rie Osei takes heartbreak, loss of self, and disappointments, and turns them into a moment of reflection, and a chance to break free for better in, “Simon Says”. The relationship she was in found her wearing a mask, and it played a major part of losing her identity and changed behaviour in the relationship. The mask may have provided a false sense of hope, control, and protection, and it hid the real person that she is, but the moment of reflection found her realizing what’s happening to her, making her more determined to break out, and find the person she truly is. The mask is highlighted in the single’s Abdul Arafat-crafted artwork, and it pays homage to her Ghanaian masquerade culture. “Simon Says” will resonate with many, and it looks to be a fixture in the coming days.

Cardi B x Kanye West x Lil Durk - "Hot Shit" on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #DominicanRepublic #Chicago #HipHop #Music #MarciaGriffiths #BunnyWailer #CardiB #LilDurk #KanyeWest #TayKeith #ElectricSlide #Reggae #PopMusic #Caribbean #HotShit #Bardi

Marcia Griffiths’ “Electric Slide” Sampled On @IAmCardiB’s “Hot S***” Single!

US Recording Artist Cardi B returns to form with new music this week. Officially making way for a new album, Cardi called up the arsenal to get the ball rolling with the new single, “Hot Shit“. Produced by Tay Keith, the track features verses from fellow Artists Lil Durk, and Kanye West. A high energy track just in time for the Summer, a small of a Jamaican classic could be heard in the track.

For a brief moment, you could hear a sample of Marcia Griffiths’ 1989 hit, “Electric Slide” accompanying a line on “Hot Shit”. Originally called “Electric Boogie” which was recorded and produced by the late Bunny Wailer in 1976, and released in 1980 and 1989, “Electric Slide” lived a few lives over the years. While it was a minor hit for Wailer in the late 70s and 80s, Marcia Griffiths’ 1983 version of the record was released and became a minor hit as well. It wasn’t until 1989 when a remixed version that was featured on Griffiths’ “Carousel” album quickly made it a dance staple around the world. The new version gave birth to the “Electric Slide” dance, which became the official dance for cookouts, family gatherings, Weddings, and various celebrations and events over the years.

Expect a lot more from Cardi B this year, and fans can look forward to a new project from her. In the meantime, check out the content below, and share with a friend. Show us some love/follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.

.@LupeFiasco Tries Patois, & Teams Up With Damian Marley On New Album, “DROGAS WAVE”

If you’re a Hip Hop head, then you’re familiar with Chicago Rapper Lupe Fiasco. He has collaborated with the likes of Kanye West and Jay Z, and gave us hits like “Superstar“, “Kick, Push“, and “The Show Goes On“. Recently, he released his 7th studio album, “DROGAS WAVE” with enough bars to keep fans happy till the next project. What made this project more interesting, is Lupe tapping into some Jamaican influences here. On “Gold vs the Right Things to do“, he utilizes patois throughout, and although it may make some of us cringe, he drops some serious lines in this one to make up for it (he did a better job than these Actors in this article). On “Kingdom” he teams up with another potent lyricist, Damian “Junior Gong” Marley as they unleash more consciousness into the world. For those familiar with Lupe, this project is a great listen and has garnered positive reviews so far. If you’re new here and into lyrics, you can’t go wrong with Lupe.
