“Dancehall Week” To Promote More Diversity & Celebrate Culture In 2025

As the calendar edges closer to February 23 – March 2, 2025, the Dancehall Week committee is excited to announce an expanded and enriched lineup for this year’s festivities in Kingston, Jamaica. Following last year’s inaugural success, Dancehall Week 2025 is set to offer a broader array of activities that celebrate and elevate the cultural impact of Dancehall.

This year, beyond electrifying parties and performances, attendees will be treated to the complete Dancehall Village experience at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre. This innovative space includes a Dancehall Museum—chronicling the genre’s evolution over the decades—alongside a host of seminars and workshops designed to underscore Dancehall’s global influence, and educate attendees on various facets of the music and Entertainment Industries.

Brandon Wallace, Brand Manager for Magnum Tonic Wine, shared his thoughts: “Magnum Tonic Wine has long been a champion of the Dancehall culture. For two and a half decades, Magnum has stood side by side with the Dancehall community, not just as a sponsor, but as a partner deeply committed to its growth and has consistently provided platforms for Dancehall talent to shine both locally and internationally. This commitment drives everything we do, and we are thrilled to continue strengthening our ties with the dancehall fraternity through initiatives like Dancehall Week.”

Bobette Bolton, Brand Manager for Double Seven Energy Drink, also commented: “Dancehall week represents a showcase of Jamaica’s history, culture and the beauty that is of and from our people. It is our Jamaican Energy, Vibe and Creativity. Chas E Ramson as a Jamaican Company is all about supporting the continuity and upliftment of Cultural expressions. Through our Double Seven Brand we can match and support the Energy and the vibe that will be expressed at Dancehall Week 2025. See you on the road.”

Talisa Taylor, Project Manager for Dancehall Week, elucidated the expansive vision for this year, stating, “Dancehall Week 2025 is meticulously crafted to offer a comprehensive encounter with the dancehall music business and entertainment scene. From producer and DJ workshops to insightful seminars, attendees will gain a full spectrum of knowledge and enjoyment. Our themed zones, including the Magnum lounge and Cannabis areas, alongside our food and shopping villages, are designed to complete this immersive cultural experience. With entertainment as a pivotal element, the week will feature spontaneous street dance pop-ups, culminating in three major events following our newly scheduled evening street parade.”

J’Calm Pursues Love In Visual For “Tempted” Single

With all that has been happening in the week, we’ll take it down a notch a lil with this new release. An Artist who has been putting in the work for a while, Recording Artist/Producer J’Calm is steadily gaining a footing in the music scene. He recently stepped out with the Summer single, “Tempted“, and is now following it up with the official Music Video.

Shot in Kingston, Jamaica, we see a story unfold in “Tempted” where J’Calm pursues a love interest. The video finds him reaching out to her at the famous Artwalk in Downtown Kingston, and after a few conversations, they meet up at a house party where they got to know each other better. Simple but clean visual, and listeners can enjoy “Tempted” in more ways than one. The 5K Records/Sony Music Ent. UK release has been gaining traction over the past few days thanks to TikTok, it even caught the attention of former US President Barack Obama who added it to his official Summer Playlist (The Playlist also featured Toots And The Maytals, who have been regulars on there). J’Calm may become a bigger name in the coming months, so be on the lookout for more releases. She pretty like a night in Memphis.

Bugle & Nation Boss - "Experience" music video on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #Reggae #BugleAn9ted #NationBoss

“Experience” @BugleAn9ted & @1NationBoss’ Collaboration In New Visual

It’s been close to 2 months since Reggae/Dancehall Artist Bugle released his latest album, “Toxicity“. The album has been doing well since its release, with fans sharing their favourite selections, and praising Bugle for another great body of work. The grind continues as Bugle has been putting out quality content in support of the album. While many were thrilled with the Nation Boss collaboration called, “Experience“, you can now enjoy it even more with the release of its music video.

Directed by KhingCam and done in collaboration with Cooriya Bikes, Bugle and Nation Boss ride through the Kingston streets bringing their track to life. The single was highly anticipated before its summer 2021 release, and helped to drum up even more buzz for the “Toxicity” album. The Cooriya Bikes have a buzz though, we may need a couple of them with our branding (who can make that happen? 🥺). The visual for “Experience” is a clean one, and shows some well needed unity, and some fun thanks to the bike riding. Look out for more Bugle content.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Lord Creator – Kingston Town (1970)

August is an important month for Jamaica as its Independence and emancipation are celebrated in it. With the month coming to a close, today’s Oldies Sunday selection shows love to its capital, Kingston. Today, we kick things off with Lord Creator’sKingston Town“.

Produced by Clancy Eccles, it was recorded in 1969, and released in 1970 by Clancy’s Records/Clan Disc Records. The song was a remake of Lord Creator’s 1963 Ska single, “Babylon” which was produced by Vincent “Randy” Chin (founder of VP Records), but was given a few changes. “Kingston Town” speaks about a place that Creator longs to visit. A place where he could call home with his Queen, and experience many wonders. In the original song, it referred to “Babylon”, but after Creator’s visit to Jamaica, it inspired him to re-record the song and replace “Babylon” with “Kingston Town”. Jamaica was such a wonder for Lord Creator who was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, that he made it his home for decades, eventually finding his Queen, and fathering 10 children in the process (he is the father of 15). The song didn’t catch on right away when it was released, but once it found its way overseas, it became very popular.

“Kingston Town” became one of Lord Creator’s biggest hits over the years, so much so that it was covered by legendary UK Reggae/Ska band, UB40 in 1989. Their version went on to be a top 10 hit, and was certified a multiplatinum selling single. Despite being a hit, it caused controversy over the years, shortly after UB40’s success, there was a fight over ownership between Lord Creator and Clancy Eccles. It was somewhat resolved some time after. Another controversy came in 2007 when the song’s copyright holders Sparta Florida Music Group took Celebrity/Recording Artist Paris Hilton and Warner Chappell Music to court for plagiarism as Hilton’s “Stars Are Blind” single allegedly shared similarities to “Kingston Town”. It was believed to have been settled out of court in 2009.
