Being one of the top Hip Hop acts in North America, Kardinal Offishall has always reached out to the land of his heritage, Jamaica. From collaborating with top Dancehall acts to incorporating Dancehall styles in his songs, Kardinal always managed to keep a close link to Canada and Jamaica. Tonight on Onstage he spoke about his new position at Universal Music, his recent nomination at the JUNO Awards, his upbringing, collaborating with Bounty Killa that gave him his break in Jamaica, promoting new music on the island, and creating a movement to help Caribbean artists, designers, and producers to bring their talent to a larger audience. Great interview here, Kardinal also premiered the music video for his “Tattoo/Rude Bwoy” single which was shot in Jamaica. I commend him for donating to the Clonmel Primary and Junior High as well. Dropping off a new video today is the combined effort of Dreggae and German songstress EbRu Musiq. Titled “SoundBoy” and directed by Royal Bridges, we hear the artists dropping Soca tinged music while having fun on the set, drinking, and dancing to the Nigel Nicholas and Patrice Regis production. With Vybz Kartel being slapped with a guilty verdict, many fans feel that Dancehall is now “dead”. Ninjaman, who is no stranger to being caught up in the law, found himself on Onstage to discuss a few things. Here he weighed in on the Vybz Kartel case, how things would’ve been if the verdict was “not guilty“, his experiences with the law and now avoiding conflict, Sting 2013, and new music.
