OLDIES SUNDAY: @ReggaeSting 1991

With yesterday’s staging of Sting 2015 receiving not so stellar reviews from some attendees, I thought for the final “Oldies Sunday” of 2015 I’d feature one of the earlier shows. In Sting 1991, there were performances from the likes of Frankie Paul (who wasn’t able to attend last night’s event due to ailments), Tony Rebel, Shine Head, Culture, Freddie McGregor, and of course a clash between Ninja Man and SuperCat. If you’re one of the disappointed members, maybe this earlier staging can brush away some bad vibes. Check it out below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

Nadesha Edwards, more popularly known as ‘Starface’ is a new face of Dancehall with all the elements of a star, as her name so rightly suggests. She has the image, the lyrics, and the onstage poise to represent female liberation.
The ‘Hold My Man’ Artiste is known largely for her sexual appeal, her prowess and for always representing for her female audience. She recently released the single “Nah Lef” – another female anthem, revealing reasons as to why her man won’t be leaving anytime soon. The single was produced by Canadian-based label Konsequence Muzik.

“I am overwhelmed and very happy that my music and the work of my team is getting recognized – so much so that I’ll be performing on this platform”, said Starface.
The Artiste is said to have the qualities of the Queen of Dancehall, Lady Saw with her raunchy and sexually explicit lyrics. “I respect, and love the work of Lady Saw and I am working hard to be that caliber of artiste” said the Diva.
Starface is booked to perform prime time for Sting 2015 at Jamworld, Portmore in the “Pretty Face of Dancehall” segment. Due to her lyrics and the topics she chooses to sing about, the Artiste has a wide fan base of females who adore, her calling her “the next big thing”.

PRESS RELEASE: Frankie Paul For @ReggaeSting 2015

A performance by iconic reggae singer Frankie Paul has not been witnessed in Jamaica for quite sometime. Sting 2015 is presenting the very rare opportunity to see the legendary singer.

The Jamworld audience can look forward to oldies party anthems such as: Cassanova, Worries In The Dance, I Know The Score and Sarah, among others.

The ’80s singer welcomed the current Sting theme, ‘From Then Till Now’, revealing, “it’s time for a change. Tired of the same thing. We are the original artistes. Feels wonderful to be on it this year as legends”.

The Jamaican Stevie Wonder as he is affectionately called, said Sting’s “lyrical content and style have changed. Too much war is in the music now and that is not good. Music is life, music is love, music is peace, music is from the Almighty and we are losing that”.

He gives his stamp of approval to, Romain Virgo, Chris Martin, Aidonia, Vershon and Devin Di Dakta. He advises the next generation saying: “They need to slow down. We want conscious music to sing and dance to, music that my grandchildren and great grandchildren can dance to. Take it slow and make it peaceful”.

Frankie Paul is happy to have contributed to the industry. “I got the chance to teach people. I taught persons how to behave. I taught persons about love and adoration and even how to make babies,” he said.

He admits it has been a very long time since he last hit the stage in Jamaica. These days he gets to enjoy a life of leisure, watching movies, listening to the news, playing instruments, going to the studio and travelling. Next year, he releases a brand new album, In The Arena.

PRESS RELEASE: Major Changes For @ReggaeSting

The countdown has begun for Sting, arguably one of the most anticipated annual events, and this year Supreme Promotions, the event’s organizer, is planning on a brand-new structure.

Sting 2015, under the theme ‘From Then ‘Til Now’, will mark a revolution for the historic event.

This year’s staging will be centered on honoring the major contributors to Jamaica’s music industry’s longest-running entertainment event. “We have been doing this since 1984 at Cinema II. Our posters are hot tickets.

“Year to year, people would try to get one to place on their walls at home, which indicates the impact of this event.

“It’s not we alone who do this, so we want to take some time to highlight the ones that help us make Sting what it is today,” said Sting creative director Dimario McDowell.

To accommodate the best of what the over 50 acts have to offer, gone are the days of lengthy full sets. A new wave of tighter sets, laced with only hit records from each performer, is the new order.

“We have to create a way to facilitate a large magnitude of artistes – constricted to the same time period, from dusk to dawn – where everybody gets to see who they want and hear what they want, the big tunes,” Sting founder and CEO Isaiah Laing added.

The brand-new structure will also see a mega midnight attraction with two of Dancehall’s most sought-after hit makers already secured for the event, which will be held on December 26 at Jamworld.

“Every year, we try to book them, and they always have shows in other parts of the world. They are in high demand ’cause they already cross over into the international market. We reach out to them from early, and they are excited to return,” said Sting conceptualizer Junior ‘Heavy-D’ Fraser.

In a few weeks, a press conference will be used to announce the top giants planned for the event.

Sting is renowned for having its audience witness one-of-a-kind entertainment. There have been memorable clashes involving Titans Shabba Ranks, Ninja Man, Super Cat, Mad Cobra, Beenie Man, and Bounty Killer, as well as outstanding performances from hip-hop greats Notorious BIG, DMX, and Foxy Brown, as well as iconic reggae acts Buju Banton, Freddie McGregor, Patra, and Maxi Priest.

Next month’s event will be no different as ticket purchasers will continue to get the best of reggae and dancehall at the same great price.

The greatest one-night Reggae and Dancehall show in the world, Sting is already the hot topic on showgoers’ lips.
