Since March 2025, we premiered a new weekly Playlist called, “What’s On 13th Street?“. Since then, we have featured over 600 new songs from Artists in and outside the Caribbean. Some are your faves, others are legends in the game, and some newcomers. Please show your support for the Playlist by liking/following it on Spotify, share with your friends regularly, and enjoy!

“Womens History Month” highlighted the many Women who have taken the first step to their greatness, and like History, it continues to happen. Sharon Marley has been a part of History carrying on the Marley name with her family, but wants to make significant contributions outside of that. Music has always been in her blood, and age is just a number when it comes to being creative. She did the Reggae Band, she went Platinum (she was one of the first Jamaican Women to do so), she has GRAMMY awards, but now she wants to continue her solo pursuits with her debut album, “Firebird“.

Featuring 11 tracks, Sharon Marley makes her “Firebird” debut a shining moment. Released through her Gong Gyal Entertainment label, Marley presents a collection of some of her best work, showcasing decades of dedication, and tapping into new generations of sound while honouring those before her. She created her own fire here, and the tracklist consists of songs about love in various forms, self-reflection, liberation, and motivation. Production on “Firebird” taps into Jazz, Reggae, and R&B sounds, and includes the likes of Leroy Romans, her son Ingemar Prendergast, and Nicko Rebel while her sister Cedella, her son Biggz General, the legendary Big Youth, NVT3L, and Rica Newell join in through guest appearances. Sharon Marley rose with a fire to make an impact, and her debut looks to be one that sets the tone for a stronger legacy.

It’s the weekend before the official release of the Film, “Bob Marley: One Love“, and the anticipation is high. The Iconic Bob Marley continues to be a topic around the world, with many remembering the hits and his presence, while others dabble in various discussions surrounding the Man. The Marley brand has gone up a few levels over these past few months, with some of the offsprings making strides. Recently, Julian secured a GRAMMY win for “Best Reggae Album“, and now Sharon returns to music with a new single called, “Steppah“.

Produced by Leroy Romans and Nicholas Davis, “Steppah” featured the legendary Big Youth, and was released through Gong Gyal Entertainment. Sharon Marley reminisces on a past love, and though their paths have taken different turns, she has a hope they will reunite and recapture some of that magic they had. Big Youth brings his iconic vibe to the track as he now holds the position of an OG. The video, directed by Donisha Prendergast (daughter of Sharon Marley), takes us back in time as we look at the story of young love, the separation, and the great reunion in modern day. Lots of eye-catching 70s fashion here, and paired with Sharon and Big Youth’s sounds and energy, we can expect “Steppah” to be in heavy rotation leading up to Valentine’s Day. “Steppah” is the latest single off Marley’s upcoming “Love Frequency” album, which is set for release later this year. A lil weekend love for you to tune in to.

OLDIES SUNDAY: @ZiggyMarley And The Melody Makers – “Tomorrow People” (1988)

May is recognized as “Child’s Month“, and we’ll be featuring content where the youth were stars. Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from the Marley siblings Sharon, Cedella, Ziggy, and Stephen a.k.a. Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers with the track, “Tomorrow People“.

Produced by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, this was released through Virgin Records in 1988. On the track, Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers provide some consciousness on this track. With lyrics like “Tomorrow people, where is your past? Tomorrow people, how long will you last?” over great production and energetic vocals, this was a song that made people think, and be entertained. “Tomorrow People” was featured on the group’s 3rd album, the 1989 GRAMMY winning Platinum selling “Conscious Party“. “Tomorrow People” has also been dubbed the “85th Greatest One-Hit Wonder of the 80s” by VH1.

Since the release of “Tomorrow People”, Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers went on to release a few more albums, scoring 2 more GRAMMY awards, and flying the Marley flag as a group before disbanding in the early 2000s.
