.@RootsLewis Is Saving Lives With @JLLProd Produced Single, “Ups And Downs”

A few years ago we did a weekly segment in honour of “Women’s History Month“, and one of those Women we honoured was the late Singer, Barbara Jones. She blessed the scene with her lovely voice, gave us beautiful music to remember, and left a solid legacy. Carrying on her legacy and carving his own lane, is her son Hector “Roots” Lewis Jr. He is a Musician, a frequent collaborator with many of your favourite Artists including Chronixx, and is now fully stepping out as the first Artist signed to Chronixx’s Soul Circle Music label. He puts his best foot forward with his much anticipated single, “Ups And Downs“.

Teaming up with acclaimed Producer J.L.L., Hector “Roots” Lewis gives listeners healing, upliftment, and all around good vibes with “Ups And Downs”. He encourages listeners to never give up when there is failure in their life as “you can never rise if you never yet fall down“, holds his ground as he knows he’s built for the challenges that life has in store for him, and reminds us to always have Jah in everything you do. “Roots” Lewis steps out strong with “Ups And Downs”, and we’re confident that his new journey will be very fruitful.

Dexta Daps Has The Ladies Waiting On “I’m On My Way”

Recording Artist Dexta Daps has become the Casanova of Dancehall with his selection of hits that have become panty droppers for the ladies. When he gets into his zone, the temperatures are rising, and he’s gonna make magic happen. Last year, he released the “VENT” album which had made its rounds. Just recently however, he followed it up with the Deluxe Edition featuring a collection of new tracks with appearances by Konshens, Marlon Asher, Patrice Roberts, and more. One of the new tracks is called, “I’m On My Way“, and we get a music video for it.

Directed by PhillyFlyBoy and Rahim Visram, the visual for “I’m On My Way” puts you in the seat to watch what could’ve easily been a scene from a romantic film. It may not be as steamy as the “INTRO” Short Film from a couple years ago, but you know Dexta Daps may have another one of those in his arsenal. At the end of the day, he has an incredible run, and the “VENT” album was just given new life with an extra set of new tracks.

Recording Artist Jesse Royal continues to make strides with his music. Still pushing his latest album “Royal“, he’s ensuring that good music will never die. The album has been getting positive feedback since its release, and Jesse is keeping up with content for it. The album’s opener “High Tide Or Low” is given the music video treatment.

Directed by Samo Kush, Jesse Royal teams up with Samory-I to give us a strong track that possesses powerful deliveries from both Artists as they trod through this life with their faith intact. Jesse keeps it lyrical while Samory-I gives us amazing vocals over Blaise Davis and Jordan Armond production. The visuals presented compliments the song really well, and captures the Artists in their element. Watch to the end for a cute moment courtesy of Jesse that emphasizes that at the end of the day, family is very important. “High Tide Or Low” was placed at the right spot on “Royal” so that listeners knew from jump that they’re in for a great listening experience. After the Storm is a calm, that’s why I hold on. Never let Jah go!

Desmond Dekker & The Aces - 007 (Shanty Town) on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #Oldies #Riot

OLDIES SUNDAY: Desmond Dekker & The Aces – 007 (Shanty Town) (1967)

With talks of protests happening in Jamaica in the past couple of days, and the upcoming release of the Film, “No Time To Die“, today’s Oldies Sunday seeks to blend the two. Today’s selection comes from the great Desmond Dekker with the track, “007 (Shanty Town)“.

Produced by Leslie Kong and released through the Pyramid label in 1967, Desmond Dekker with the help of The Aces shared some of his observations during that time. The song spoke about the “rude boys” of the time who continued their life of crime as soon as they’re released from Prison. The activities of the rude boys would cause a ruckus in certain communities, and the armed forces would be called to tackle the situation. “007 (Shanty Town)” was a hit for Desmond Dekker, a first for him really. Having achieved #1 status on the local music charts, and created history as being the first Jamaican-produced song to chart in the UK Top 20 peaking at #14. The song was also popular with the “rude boys” as well. There was an original version that made no reference to “Shanty Town”, which was also produced by Leslie Kong. The track was featured on Dekker’s debut album of the same name with The Aces, and on the soundtrack for the classic Film, “The Harder They Come“. It was also rerecorded for his 1980 album, “Black and Dekker“.

“007 (Shanty Town)” was inspired by a student demonstration that turned violent against the government’s decision to erect an Industrial Complex on a plot of land close to a beach in the mid 60s. The song also made references to Ian Fleming’sJames Bond” spy movie series, and the popular 1960’s “Ocean’s 11” heist Film. After “007”, Desmond Dekker went on to make more music, and rack up more hits along the way. Desmond Dekker passed away in 2006 at the age of 64, but his music continues to live on.

Thank You Desmond Dekker For This Classic!
