Rainy days, don’t you just love them? While we’d prefer to be home and under a proper roof when the rain is falling, not all of us are fans. However, lots of exciting things can happen when you have someone special during the rain. Aidonia knows about those times well, and on “Pit A Pat“, he shares his experiences with the ladies.

Produced by Di Genius, Aidonia speaks on how wild the ladies get when it’s raining on, “Pit A Pat”. With a Music Video directed by Shane Creative, the Deejay is having some good times with a few ladies (including emerging Video Vixen Zho) who ooze sex appeal, and know how to take charge when needed. Aidonia and Di Genius continue to make great music together, and at this point we need a complete project with just these two. The Deejay has been having a blast this past summer, and for the rest of the year we expect him to take “Pit A Pat”, and some of his classics to more International stages. The wickedest time when rain start fall.

Laden Shows Hometown Love With @DiGenius1 In “My Place”

There’s nothing like home. Whether you are abroad or a few miles away, there’s nothing like being in the place you were born and raised in. For Dancehall Artist Laden, the Parish of St. Elizabeth means everything to him, and for that he holds the title of “Senty King“. Do you love there more than him? Check out the video for the single, “My Place“.

Directed by Rizzy for Now Or Never and featuring Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, Laden shows hometown love in, “My Place”. He emphasizes the importance of his place, stating that he’s good there, and the bonds made there are stronger than ever. Shot in Junction, St. Elizabeth, we see familiar spots, and unity throughout. Laden and Di Genius share plenty history together, and it’s great to hear them on a track now. For those missing home, may this video be one of them that jog memories of being at chill spots, hanging out with friends, and taking in the nightlife on the weekends. Home is where the heart is.

The 2000s in Dancehall Music was an era that can never be duplicated. There were local and International crossovers, the ascension of Deejays who went on to become legends, and lots of good vibes and energy. It was in the mid 2000s that the world warmed up to a young Producer by the name of Stephen McGregor. The son of the legendary Freddie McGregor was determined to carve his own path in music, and the determination won. When he got his start, there was no stopping him, and he made hits with everyone. From Mavado, to Vybz Kartel, to Laden, to Agent Sasco, to Nicky B, to his brother Chino McGregor, the world got familiar to the sounds of “Di Genius“. There’s a lot of history in that Big Ship Studio. The years that followed saw a shift in the music Industry as MP3s and CDs soon gave way to Digital Music Streaming, and a number of those Di Genius hits never crossed over. In 2024, after lots of work, Stephen has made it a reality with the release of “The Recovered Files” album.

Featuring 20 classic tracks, Di Genius restored some of our favourites from the 2000s on “The Recovered Files” compilation album. We get music from a Vybz Kartel who was in heading into a new level of prime, a young Aidonia who was venomous on a Riddim, Chino who found his pocket and cruised over his brother’s productions, the rise of the “Gully Gad” Mavado, a young firecracker that was Blak Ryno, and more. Fans will fall in love with the “Darker Shadow Riddim“, recite some Gaza Commandments, reflect on their allegiances to Gaza, Gully, and J.O.P., and enjoy the work of Di Genius over and over on their favourite streaming platform. We believe “The Recovered Files” will be the start of a series of restorations and releases in the coming months, and with Di Genius at the helm, we know it will be a celebration every time. The Summer is around the corner, and there are two people who seek to own it. After not collaborating for a number of years, Mavado and Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor reunite for a new single that is bound to make plenty noise. They get things started in, “Bubble & Brace“.

For the ladies who know that they possess a special kind of beauty, and know how to be the centre of attention, Mavado and Di Genius have their sights set on you in “Bubble & Brace”. Inspired by 80s Pop Music, Di Genius provides the right sound that allows Mavado to reel the ladies in, and giving the people a hit for 2024. The “Gully Gad” and Di Genius never made a bad track, and we hope there are more collaborations in store. Everything comes to life with the help of Shane Creative for the Music Video, and it will have everyone staring especially at the lovely ladies featured. January is a month for new music, and a few highly-anticipated ones have been given the green light. Last year, Dancehall Artist Jada Kingdom previewed a single called, “Those Days“. The opening vocals instantly took listeners back in time as Reggae/Dancehall Icon Sizzla Kalonji’s 2002 classic “Just One Of Those Days” was the featured sample, drumming up a lot of requests for its release. The wait is over as Jada finally unleashed the tune.

Produced by Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor and released through Money Well Spent, Jada Kingdom shares some of her down times on “Those Days”. She asserts her value, emphasizing her need to take care of herself and people who matter the most to her. Her days may not always be the best, she holds the faith, keeps an eye on fleeting people in her life, and move forward as stress free as possible. The sampled “Just One Of Those Days” by Sizzla was produced by the late “Bobby Digital” Dixon, and is one of Kalonji’s biggest hits to date having successfully crossed over on the International market in the early 2000s. We believe there’s a remixed version of “Those Days” featuring fresh vocals from Sizzla, but we’ll have to wait and see if that will materialize. Jada Kingdom has hinted that she’s working on an album and more music with “Di Genius”, we just have to stay tuned to see what’s next. Just one of those days…

OLDIES SUNDAY: Laden – Time To Shine (2009)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection is a lil late, but we’re here. Today’s selection is dedicated to those who have dreams, ambitions, and a desire to win despite the odds they’re facing. We listen to Dancehall Artist Laden’s “Time To Shine“.

Produced by Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor and released through the Big Ship label in 2009, Laden provides a song that aims to uplift, and encourage. An Artist who is filled with potential and promise, he asks the question, “When is it going to be my time to shine?“. In a time when everyone is trying to make it, Laden was just looking for his big break. Formerly known as “Jim Laden“, the Deejay was a contestant in the 2006 season of the Digicel Rising Stars competition series. He gained popularity after placing at 8th place, but his career wasn’t gaining the right success at the time. “Time To Shine” came at a great time for him, and instantly became a hit. Paired with the popularity of “Di Genius” and his productions, “Time To Shine” took Laden to various parts of the world, and the song even had some commercial appeal as it appeared in a few campaigns.

Since the release of “Time To Shine”, Laden went on to enjoy moderate success, securing a number of hits over the years. He had some trouble with the law, but nowadays he’s more focused on making good music, and lending his expertise to the new generation of Artists. No matter where life takes him, “Time To Shine” remains his biggest, and most memorable single.
