In life, there are many ups and downs. Some succumb to the downs, while others find ways to overcome them to live positive lives. Today’s Oldies Sunday selection highlights an Artist who like many, overcame negative circumstances, and lived a positive life from thereon. His name is Prince Oret, and we look back at his single, “Ghetto Youth“.

Produced by Little John on the “Give Me The Right Riddim” for the Romantic Label in 1989, Prince Oret reflects on his challenges, and sharing his message of overcoming them in “Ghetto Youth”. A victim of homelessness in his younger years, Oret turned his circumstance into song at the age of 14, with lyrics sharing his hardships, encouraging listeners to not be discouraged, and make efforts to have a positive impact on their lives moving forward. “Ghetto Youth” gave Prince Oret some recognition when released, and while it didn’t make him a huge Artist at the time, the song received some love over the years and made him a name to know locally and overseas.

Since the release of “Ghetto Youth”, Prince Oret released more singles over the years, and made positive strides in his life. He found success as a Producer, owning his own Record Label Godfather Records, dabbled in Real Estate overseas, and made sure never to experience any of the hardships he faced in his younger years again. “Ghetto Youth” is a song of turning a negative into a positive, and is still played around the world.

450 Asks The Important Questions In “What If?”

A popular song from the 2000s had the lyrics, “Would you love me if I was down and out? Would you still have love for me?“. In a time where many relationships have become transactional, some people are still searching for someone who will be there through the good times, and the storms, with and without dollars to their name. Dancehall Artist 450, though he has the status as one of the hottest acts out that gets a lot of love, would he be as loved if he wasn’t? He asks “What If?” in his new single.

Produced by Week.Day, 450 asks the important questions in “What If?”. He recognizes his current position, but wonders if his lady would still be into him if he had different careers. If she can see him in the roles of a Garbage Collector, a Vendor in the Market, or even a struggling Recording Artist, would the love be as genuine? Would she be quick to answer his calls if he was broke? There are many who are in similar positions, and have been denied love, but there are also some who experience the opposite. It’s all about respect. The accompanying music video directed by DaManiac Visualz highlights 450 in a few of those positions, further emphasizing his lyrics. The love game can be a cruel and fleeting one, but respect goes out to those who believe in genuine love, with and without things and status.

Today (January 12) marks his birthday, and he celebrates it in one of the best ways with the release of his latest album, “Trilogy“.

“Trilogy” is the follow up to the much-celebrated “VENT” album, and Dexta Daps is once again at his best here. Featuring 16 tracks, Dexta has something for everyone here, with a few dedicated to the ladies to enjoy over and over. The new album is a celebration of the staying power of the Dancehall Crooner, and this is just a preview of what’s to come for the Artist this year. Production from the album include the likes of Slingerz Records, TJ Records, Sean Alaric, and Majorseven while Alaine, Masicka, Jada Kingdom, Chronic Law, and Rally Banks make appearances on the album. 2023 saw the continued rise of one of Japan’s leaders in Dancehall, Hibikilla. The veteran Artist has dedicated a portion of his life to the music, and the people have been showing a lot of love. While he has been active, the fans needed an album from him. He fulfilled their request with the release of, “Killertune“.

“Killertune” is Hibikilla’s first album in 12 years, and it is some of his best work to date. Packed with 12 tracks, the Deejay shows a renewed energy on the album as he gives us the hard-hitting lyrics that reflect on some of his experiences and ambitions, dabbles in various flows and deliveries, and shows that he is as potent as ever with his artistry. “Killertune” features an array of different sounds that Hibikilla handles with ease, including production from the likes of Young Beats Instrumental and EJ Fya, and the Deejay shares with the spotlight with KOTA, Tach-B, Laya, and DABO.
