OLDIES SUNDAY: Delroy Wilson – Emy Lou (1963)

May is recognized as “Child’s Month“, and on “Oldies Sunday“, we highlight some of the Child Stars of yesteryear. For today’s entry, we bring you Jamaica’s first Child Star, Delroy Wilson with the track, “Emy Lou“.

Produced by “Sir CoxsoneDodd and released through the Supreme Label in 1963, Delroy Wilson is infatuated by a young Woman named, “Emy Lou”. He shares that even if she’s avoiding him, or even taken by another, he still has the eyes for her. This Ska release was Wilson’s debut single, and even though it didn’t create waves at first, it opened doors for him to score official hits as a Teen, and later on as an Adult. From Ska to Rocksteady to Reggae, Wilson’s name was big in the world, and he gained in many ways through music. Delroy Wilson passed away in 1995, but left behind a legacy that is celebrated by the young and old. His son Karl, known to the world as Konan from “Krept And Konan“, paid tribute to him earlier this year with the single, “Delroy’s Son.

.@BurnaBoy Gives Us Reggae Vibes With “Sweet Love”

Love is universal, but how it’s shown differs by the individual. Luckily for some, they have gifted ways in which they can display that love to someone. There are others who rely on music. Burna Boy utilizes the power of Reggae Music to convey his message of love in, “Sweet Love“.

Produced by Major Seven, Burna Boy takes it back to the Islands for a song that will have the young and old rocking to called, “Sweet Love”. For those unfamiliar, Reggae has always been one of Burna’s inspirations, and this time around he seeks love, and wants to give love. The retro-styled production makes it an instant hit, and gives us an idea of what’s to come in the future for the African Giant. The single is accompanied by a Music Video directed by Troy Roscoe, and not only do we get an in-house performance by Burna and his band, but we watch scenes of families, and loved ones coming together in the name of love. From a family dinner and get together, to an intimate moment with a couple who has seen years together, the real love is more than what people are having unnecessary conversations about on Social Media. No $200 dates or who sits in the front seat topics here, just people having real connections, with a soundtrack provided by one of Nigeria’s top acts.

A few weeks ago, Los Angeles-based Streamer/Content Creator/Recording Artist DDG announced his upcoming album, “Blame The Chat“. Since then, he has been putting in the work ensuring the project’s put together in the right way. In normal Streamer fashion, he kicked off a live event called the “Hit-A-Thon” where he would livestream for days, making the album in the process. Produced by OG Parker/Jon Milli/WillNoSleep/AvoNoSleep/Rance1500 and features Queen Naija and Rob49, “More Than A Night” is one of DDG’s Pop/R&B-flavoured tracks with some Afro/Island vibes throughout.
