Susan Smith Provides Uplifting Messages With Children’s Book Series

The new School year is upon us, and many of our little ones are leaving homes to learn in new institutions. Susan Smith is a Jamaican Publicist and Author who has worked with numerous Entertainers and Institutions over the years through Powerhouse Global Media, and in recent years delved into Children’s books. On a mission to promote self confidence, the appreciation of black identity, and a positive mindset from an early age, Smith released the books, “Little Black Girl“, and “Hey Black Boy“. “Little Black Girl” was released in 2022, and it features 5 year old Kyra-Rose and her mother who share a special poem, and a series of positive affirmations that empower and uplift little Black Girls who will grow up to become positive Women and role models. Smith’s follow up book “Hey Black Boy”, follows the same formula as the previous release, and features a little boy named Malik, who helps to encourage little Black Boys to be their best selves, and be more conscious, loving, and appreciative of the skin they’re in. “Hey Black Boy” was released in the early part of Summer 2023, and along with “Little Black Girl”, received heaps of praise and positive reviews. Micah Goldsmith also provided beautiful illustrations for the books.

Tolga Akcayli Shares Original “Jamaica No Duppy” Anime Trailer, Seeks Crowdfunding Efforts

It’s no secret that Jamaicans love Cartoons. For decades they have been entertained by many kinds that range from 5 minute shorts, to full length movies. There is a percentage of them that love Anime. The Japanese styled Animation has found favour with them thanks to Cable/Satellite TV, VHS, DVD, Print, Video Games, and the Internet over the years. For years there have been discussions for the Island’s best Creatives to make original Anime content with a Jamaican background. While there have been attempts, Vincy Filmmaker Tolga Akcayli looks to make it a reality with his “Jamaica No Duppy – Rise Of The Conqueror” idea.

What originally started as a joke on Social Media platform TikTok, “Jamaica No Duppy” is coming to life, and it needs your help. The Anime focuses on a Samurai who finds himself stranded in Jamaica, and tries to navigate through the Island and its natives in dialogue and other ways. “Jamaica No Duppy” was made possible through years of research and encouragement from Social Media, but like all productions, it costs to put together. Tolga Akcayli made the first major step with a concept trailer that was premiered over the weekend, and is seeking financial help to bring the full Anime to life. The series is still seeking talent, and with the assistance of Crowdfunding platform GoFundMe, Akcayli is campaigning, and you can chip in. Aside from the Anime, Akcayli also wants to launch a limited Manga series in 2024. Want to see Jamaica’s first official Anime? Support the GoFundMe here.
