He has shot and directed videos for some of your favourite Artists, and for a while has been working on his own music. He describes himself as a Rockstar, but you know him as 1YoungElvis. In between controlling the visuals, he’s bringing the party vibes with, “Paper“.

The self-directed Visualizer shows 1YoungElvis in his element, while he drops lyrics about the Women, the money, and the fast life in, “Paper”. Shot around his community, he gives us his rockstar image throughout, while performing his track. The multi-faceted Creative shows that he’s more than a Music Video Director, and for a while has been releasing a number of singles. Rytikal Is On To “Top Tier” Moves

Dancehall Artist Rytikal has been leveling up, and he’s working hard to keep it that way. The Deejay has secured International collaborations, and is onboard to taking his music to even more places around the world. He has made it to the “Top Tier” side of things.

Directed by Rojhay Anderson, Rytikal connects with his people in the video for, “Top Tier”. Produced by TrueLoyal Records, the Deejay reflects on times when he had nothing, and despite having success, he still deals with people who don’t wish the best for him. The video finds him linking up with Vaga (of TrueLoyal Records), signing contracts, taking to the hills to reflect, and appreciate where he is now. The Deejay recently collaborated with Latin Music giant J Balvin, and with the summer coming up, we can expect him hitting the road in a major way.

To say Popcaan is successful is an understatement. Since his breakout at the end of the 2000s, he has connected with the right people, and elevated his music career, and finances. Being broke is definitely a thing of the past for him. Right now, he’s living “Lavish And Madish“.

Produced by Droptop Records/Unruly Ent., Popcaan is where he needs to be, with success beyond measure in, “Lavish And Madish”. From getting Millions, to running the place, he’s in a good place right now. “Lavish” is just one of a number of singles he has released recently, and best believe he has more to drop before summer. Outside of the Studio, he has been living it up in Jamaica, and even in Ghana where he was crowned sub-Chief, and bestowed the title, “Nana Okofo Akro Kese“. The life he’s living was years in the making, and took a lot of work. Respect the “Unruly Boss“.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Little Lenny – Gun In A Baggy (1989)

Dancehall Music has always been a genre that showcases the ups, the downs, the success, the struggles, and the observations of everyday life. Sometimes, it can shed light on serious topics, even in a way that is easily digestible to the public. On “Oldies Sunday“, we highlight a song that is both serious, and hilarious. We go back in time to check out Little Lenny’s “Gun In A Baggy“.

Produced by Little Kirk and Patrick Roberts for the Shocking Vibes label and released in 1989, Little Lenny taps into the importance of your sexual health in, “Gun In A Baggy”. The song speaks about a Woman who has contracted a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), and while she is very desirable and attractive, she has a trail of victims in her path. Lenny warns her, and other Women who have contracted STIs to seek professional help, and not allow others contract them as well. The delivery is hilarious as the STI is referred to as a “gun“, and the carrier “shoots” their victims with it through unprotected sex.

Sometimes we have to turn a serious thing into a joking matter, and “Gun In A Baggy” quickly became a hit for the Deejay, and was also caused controversy as Little Lenny was known for music that was termed “slack“, and mostly for adults consumption. The track was featured on Lenny’s 1990 debut album of the same name, and was often paired with the follow up track “Healthy Body“, that complimented a Woman’s body. “Gun In A Baggy” was also featured on the soundtrack for the 2004 Comedy Thriller, “Club Dread” that starred Bill Paxton, and directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (of “Super Troopers” fame).

Since the release of “Gun In A Baggy”, Little Lenny went on to release more music in the 90s, and the early 2000s. He makes appearances here and there, and records Dubplates of his hits often, including “Gun In A Baggy”. The track remains one of his most popular releases.

It’s getting closer to the release of Protoje’s “The Art Of Acceptance” album. The content released so far has been building up quite the anticipation, and this next collab is gonna cause (good) problems. Check out, “Ting Loud“.

Produced by Winta James/Ziah.Push/Manu Digital (with inspiration by Gussie Clarke?) and featuring Masicka, Protoje keeps the energy high as usual with, “Ting Loud”. With every album, he keeps a few high profile collaborations, and his Masicka has been a highly-anticipated one. When it comes to visuals, Protoje doesn’t disappoint, and with a music video directed by SAMO for Filmaica and shot in Jamaica and Adama, Ethiopia, we’re taken to the streets with the Bajaj drivers, and familiar spaces to congregate and enjoy in Kingston. It’s going to be a day when “The Art Of Acceptance” drops on April 17, and we hope you’re ready for it.

Since going viral on Social Media over the past few weeks, the Artist and his team had to make things right by officially putting the track on the streams to give it even more online reach. In our feature on the track, we hinted that there might be a remix on the way. Today, you get that remix in the form of, “Jacket Weather 2.0“.

Produced by top Producer Kickraux, “Jacket Weather 2.0” gives us that extra Rock feeling and sound that we needed. We still get Witty’s aggressive delivery here, but the production behind it gave the words even more power. We get more drums, more bass, and more attitude, and we hope this opens the door to take Witty to a greater level.
