Is Dancehall Dying? (13th Street Rants Ep. 2)

You frowned or scratched your head when you saw the title. It’s ok (lol). With Dancehall Music seeing a lot of gimmicks, beef, drama (most of them unnecessary) over the years, it hasn’t really been seeing favourable returns. Instead, we have outsiders enjoying our musical styles with most not paying homage, or even helping out some of the talent here. While they can’t shoulder majority of the blame, many Artists, Producers, DJs and Industry folk are the culprits as they failed to innovate, hold back many promising opportunities, and failed to give the music that needed “push”.

Today, we speak on a few things that turn us (and many others) off about this genre that has the potential to do even more, but is being held back. Respect to all the Artists and DJs who are trying in the meantime. We love Dancehall, but it has a tendency to be a little stubborn in thinking. Check out our rant below. You can hear our 1st episode here.

We Look At @ItsJahmiel Vs @VershonMusic In “13th Street Rants” Debut!

13th Street Rants” is a new series on 13th Street Promotions (hopefully we have more after this) where we share commentary on various topics in Entertainment. In our debut episode, we speak on the current war of words with Dancehall Artists Jahmiel and Vershon. Is it necessary? We tend to think that beef is needed at all times, but that shouldn’t be the case. We think both Artists are amazing in their respective careers, but this beef? I don’t know how they’ll benefit in the long run. DJ Fusion takes the wheel in the debut clip below. Listen and share!

@TheKhxos Changes Name, Sets To Release Debut Album.

Khxos (previously Khaos) is one of the more versatile new Artists to surface onto the scene. A Songwriter who fuses Reggae and Dancehall with a hint of R&B and Pop mixed with a unique voice, Khxos’ vocals alternate between rugged boasts and smooth tones with such lyrical and melodious prowess not seen from the average Reggae Artist. Khxos has made strides in 2016 towards mainstream with his debut EP, “Deception”, guest appearances, and a slew of videos by Videographer, Sean Alaric.

Khxos spent parts of his early life in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica where he learned to love music from his family and surroundings before moving to the States in his teenage years. Although he is regarded as a new artist, Khxos has been underground for the last 4 years creating a fan base from Jamaica, the United States, UK, and Canada to name a few. He has made some of his biggest strides in 2016 with the “One Dance (Remix)” that featured Recording Artist/Comedian Andrew Trabass which amassed over 3 million views on YouTube. Earlier that year, Khxos released the “Deception” EP which was produced by Class One Music and featured Khxos’ single “One Touch” which spread like wildfire throughout the mainstream airwaves last year.

@ZJLiquid Unleashes New @IamTheKartel Album, “Black & White”!

Popular DJ and Producer ZJ Liquid has released the long awaited Album from Dancehall Artist, Vybz Kartel. Titled “Black & White“, features 13 hits that were produced by Liquid himself, and famed Producer Don Corleon. The tracks however date back as far as 2003, a time when Liquid’s H2O Records was established, and include “Hello Moto”, “Dem Bwoy”, “Mother In Law”, “Life Me Say”, “Fix Up”, and “Live Your Life”. The Album name is based on Kartel’s change in physical appearance over the years.

“When I decided to venture into Production, I had my objectives lined out and I was determined to make my mark in the Music Industry. Over the years, I had the opportunity to produce a few of Vybz Kartel’s hits which I have now compiled into an album,” said ZJ Liquid. The Album saw a March 10 release, and is currently distributed on all major Digital Media outlets by 21st Hapilos.

ZJ Liquid also shared that this album will give the general public a better understanding of who he is as a Producer as many fans tend to pay more attention to his DJ persona. “Many fans see me as a DJ first and Producer after. They know I am in Production but they are not aware of the altitude to which I take it. This Album will help them to recognize what Instrumentals were produced by me as well as which of their favorite Vybz Kartel tracks I’ve produced over the years,” shared ZJ Liquid. “Since its release, I have been receiving a monument of positive feedback. The fans have been supportive, and have been sharing the project on various Social Media platforms,” he added.

ZJ Liquid is optimistic that the Album will climb the charts both locally and Internationally.
