Today on Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club”, Dancehall artist Beenie Man made a guest appearance. Here he shared his thoughts on the T.I./Floyd Mayweather fight and cheating, Vybz Kartel’s current situation, Kingston, overseas acts recording in Jamaica, working with female artists, staying current after all these years, being a “Gallis“, his new EP “The Greatest Gallis“, avoiding beefs and his current tour. It’s still good to see Beenie doing his thing after so many years and he gets my respect for that. Beenie sure loves to “twang” (ha!). Recently Deejay Shabba Ranks made a visit to Jamaica but during his short stay he managed to do what he hasn’t done locally in decades…record music. Traveling with a mob in Half Way Tree, Winford Williams managed to catch Shabba to speak on a few things. Here Shabba spoke about being in Jamaica to celebrate Mother’s Day, recording in Jamaica for the first time in many years, visiting his old communities, his views on Dancehall recently including the conviction of Vybz Kartel, family life, and possibilities of performing in Jamaica again. Good to see Shabba still doing his thing and his new single sounds great from the preview that was provided. Get together that “Gorilla Money” promoters. Yesterday on Hot 97, Reggae artist Chronixx was featured on their Morning Show with Cipha Sounds and Old Man Ebro. Here Chronixx spoke about his style of music, artists he grew up listening to and drawing inspiration from, Reggae’s contribution to Hip Hop, his album “Dread & Terrible“, his upcoming performances, explained the meaning of some of his songs and much more. I like how Chronixx handles his interviews. A very knowledgeable artist and you can tell how Cipher and Ebro are impressed. “Celine Dion is the biggest artist in Jamaica“. After leaving the Portmore Empire, many thought Black Ryno would’ve faded away from the Dancehall scene. In efforts to not fade away he was a part of Sting 2012 where things got ugly between he and former Gaza brethren Popcaan. In 2013 he redeemed himself on that stage by defeating Kiprich in a war of words. Since then the question has been, “What has Ryno been up to?” and he answered on Onstage. He spoke about the projects he has been working on, Sting 2012 and 2013, thoughts on the Vybz Kartel verdict and sentencing, why he left the Portmore Empire, defending his Clash title at Sting 2014, and previewed new music. Looking forward to hear more work from Black Ryno as he was one of the artists I’ve looked out from the Gaza camp.
With news of her boss given a prison sentence, and her upcoming trial, Vawnessa Bling stepped in a new direction and asked for “Mercy” on Onstage tonight. Here she spoke on how Vybz Kartel’s sentence affected her, being raised in the church and continuing to be a part of it, her new single “Mercy On Me Lord” and the feedback she has been getting for it, separating “Gaza Slim” from “Vawnessa Bling“, and handling all her music business on her own. Blign also premiered the music video for “Mercy On Me Lord“. With her trial coming in August, I do hope things will work out and we can hear more of “Vawnessa Bling“. On last night’s episode of Irie FM’s “The Buzz“, Dancehall artists Vawnessa Bling (Gaza Slim), Seanizzle and Tellah were the featured guests. Seanizzle was next on the show and here he spoke about staying busy, starting his career as a producer first before now balancing his roles as a producer and artist, his single “Wha Dem A Watch Me“, staying grounded, encouraging artist and producers to make good music, hosting a competition for upcoming producers, his hit riddims and more. Next up was Vawnessa Bling and here she spoke about her new single “Mercy On Me” and feedback from it, why going in the direction of Gospel Music, using the “Vawnessa Bling” name in future songs, her new label Vawnessa Bling (VB) Records, her upcoming court case, and future plans.
