For those who’re unaware, Jamaica has a Hip Hop culture that is very active. Some of your favourite Dancehall/Reggae Artists started out as Rappers, or have been heavily influenced by the music. While some of the output reflects on some of the trendy singles and Artists out, there is a sector that respects the elements of the culture, with emphasis on the lyrics. Enter Five Steez who is no stranger on this platform, and has been active on the scene for close to two decades. With a new album on the way, he fires off a single called, “Simple Man“.

Produced by Son Raw, Five Steez does some reminiscing on “Simple Man”. He reflects on some of the experiences good and bad, but also shares some aspects of his day to day life. At the end of the day, he wants to be better, be in better situations, and just live well at that. He taps into his signature delivery here, and the Jazz-influenced sample helps him to get his points across. Five Steez and Son Raw’s “Simple Man” is a track off of their upcoming collaborative project called, “re:DEFined” which is set to be released on July 11 on Bandcamp, and on July 25 on all digital music streaming platforms. Montego Bay based Rapper MoulaUE returns to music after a short hiatus. Having shown that he is one of the Jamaican Lyricists you need to know, he had to fall back for a while to deal with life outside the booth. Before he returns in a bigger way however, he goes back into the archives to share a few gems that never saw the light of day. Today, you’ll get a chance to hear them in the new “The Lost Files” EP.

Consisting of 3 tracks, MoulaUE gives listeners a freestyle, and a couple collaborations that were made for previous projects, but were left behind for one reason or another. Recording Artists Warm Soul, Minx, and JadaFilly appear as the collaborators on “The Lost Files” EP, and the production is strong on this release. Produced by J Keys, Chase Soundz gives us a report on what he been experiencing live from “Babylon“. Over a somber beat, Chase lets us in on the ups and downs he faces day to day, recall some of the struggles his family faced, making observations on the world around him, and counting his blessings through them all. Jamaican Hip Hop collective The Council a.k.a. The Council of the Gods returns with new music. Despite the pandemic putting a halt to many things, Five Steez, The Sickest Drama, and Nomad Carlos managed to fight through the blocks, and make something happen. Finally seeing an opening, they stepped out with their latest offering titled, “Trilogy“.

Featuring 8 tracks, The Council teamed up with the legendary Equiknoxx Music label. Production come from the minds of Time Cow, Son Raw, and Sawandi, and they present Dub, Jazz, and Electronica inspired beats to build a great vibe. The Council in true fashion stepped out with their usual lyrical abilities, and handled each beat like they’re supposed to. While every Dancehall and Reggae Artist got a chance to put out new music this year in the middle of the pandemic, Jamaican Hip Hop had to show up and make some noise. Produced by JGladMusic, Chase Soundz gets into some Dancehall vibes on “Bay Gyal” as he kicks off lyrics for the ladies. Listeners will get two different meanings from “Bay Gyal” title as (1) it refers to the beautiful ladies from Chase’s hometown of Montego “Bay”, St. James, and (2) the Patois meaning for having an abundance of women in your presence. Chase kicks off Summer 2021 in the right way, and had revealed that “Bay Gyal” is the first of a series of Dancehall tracks he will be releasing throughout the rest of 2021.
