Dropping a lyric video today are the likes of Major Lazer, Elliphant and Jovi Rockwell. Titled “Too Original” with Art Direction/Motion Design by John Hwang, we are treated to an animation filled with dancing feet with lyrics to the track displayed for you to sing along to. Loving this visual and the animation reminds me that I need to catch the latest episode of the Major Lazer cartoon. A collaboration between No-maddz, UNICEF and Eve For Life comes “Nuh Guh Deh“. Directed by Kurt Wright, No-Maddz speak out on those adults who prey on children and teenagers and aim to shame and chase them away. Very Interesting visual as the band members are portrayed as dolls performing in a doll house. A great video with a strong message to all Pedophiles. If you purchase the single, 50% of sales will go towards their “Eve For Life” charity organization. Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
This goes out to all the mamas, the baby mamas, the grandmothers, the aunties…you get the drift. Did you ever notice every year on Mother’s Day you hear some very familiar songs on the radio? Well I can’t be the only one so today my Oldies Sunday selection focuses on 5 Jamaican songs that never failed in getting airplay on Mother’s Day.
#5 – Richie Stephens x Bounty Killa – Pot Of Gold
With a mix of Richie Stephens’ singing and Bounty’s deejaying, this tribute was recorded for the “Pot Of Gold” label and has been a staple every year since it’s release.
#4 – Anthony Cruz – Mama’s Blessing
Released in 2003/2004 on the “I Swear” Riddim, Anthony Cruz sang about the hardships his mother went through to provide the best life for him. Never fails when it comes getting airplay this time of the year.
Dropping something special is Reggae artist, Yung JR. Titled “No Tomorrow” and directed by Adoney Reid, JR sings about insecurities which resulted in losing the love of his life. In the video he hops on his bicycle in attempts to search for her all over town so they can mend their relationship. A great effort here visually and a nice single that you can kick back and play on a cool afternoon. Off his upcoming “Start The Movement” EP, check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
Up and coming artiste Marr, who is signed to the 10 Star Recording Label has released the first single to jump-start his career entitled ‘Stars of Wonder’. The reggae single, produced by 10 Star Recordz and Kapreno Production, is on the ‘Other Day Riddim’ and it speaks to the harsh reality and struggle that Jamaicans face.
Marr, who grew up in Old Harbour, St. Catherine has been a victim to hardship and as such he describes the single as “heartfelt” and “real”. Deriving inspiration from the likes of Sizzla Kalonji and I-Wayne, Marr believed that his lyrics should speak to social commentary on Jamaican life and on topics of love and prosperity. He shared “I want to be remembered for doing foundation music, it is very important for me to make a positive mark in the music industry”.
With the feedback from the single ‘Star of Wonder’, Marr and his management team aim to shoot a video to compliment the single. It will be shot by Haynes Video Production and N.F.E Entertainment.“This video will depict exactly what the song speaks to and at the end of it I hope to deliver a clear message to those in authority, that Jamaica needs change” shared Marr.
In addition to the release of this video, 10 Star Recordz is working closely with the artiste to complete his first mix tape entitled ‘Rebellution’. This mix tape is a full hard hitting social commentary inspired by African consciousness and aims to uplift an “unconscious mind”.
Marr is set to release ‘Rebellution’ in June and his album ‘Artistic Connection’ later this year.
