Jamaica has made its way onto International Televisions once again thanks to Commercials. Recently, Cereal brand Cheerios released a series of Commercials with the focus on Family. One Commercial in particular focused on Babies and providing the soundtrack was Major Lazer (which featured only Diplo and former member Switch at the time), and Vybz Kartel’s 2009 hit, “Pon De Floor“! The Commercial featured various clips of Babies and the messages, “More Babies, Please” and “They’re Fun!” while the Instrumental to the single plays throughout. “Pon De Floor” helped to bring Vybz Kartel’s career to another level (and Financial bracket), and went on to be sampled on one of Recording Artist Beyonce’s biggest hits, “Who Run The World (Girls)“! The single was also featured on Major Lazer’s “Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do” album and opened the door for many remixes. Shout out Commercial Tunage! The Jamaican Influence continues to flood media all across the World this year in various forms. Recently, Youtube launched their Youtube Music service along with a new Mobile App. To help promote the new ventures, they’ve released a series of Commercials featuring various real world themes with soundtracks provided by some popular Musicians. In their latest titled “Tina’s Theme“, Jamaica’s own Walshy Fire (Major Lazer) and Virginia based Reggae Band Machet provided the music with their “Naturally” single. The single was released in May and has been well received online since. It’s not just what we listen to, it’s who we are. King Kabaka Pyramid is back at it again hurling lyrical fireballs at those who oppose! Today he teams up with 1/3 of Major Lazer, Walshy Fire, to give listeners “Accurate“, his brand new Mixtape. Featuring 26 scorching tracks with Hip Hop influences, Kabaka aims to reach more listeners in a major way thanks to his partnership with Walshy Fire. With Production from Kickraux, Major Lazer, Bluesy, DJ Karim, Chimney Records, Notis, Winta James and Purple Skunkz to name a few, be prepared for a wonderful meeting of beats and rhymes from the Bebble Rock boss. With Chronixx, Protoje, Koro Fyah, Raekwon The Chef, and Dre Island as some of the acts contributing verses, putting down this mix will be deemed impossible. Time to soak up some dopeness! After premiering the single earlier on Sway In The Morning thanks to Jillionaire, the Trini Viking Bunji Garlin unleashes “Television“. Produced by Jillionaire (Major Lazer/Feel Up Records) and Richie Beretta, Bunji takes it to the club with this Soca/EDM crossover that promises lots of feel good moments. With a Bass heavy production with TV channel changing effects, you may need a trip to a cold room after raving to this hot track! I can imagine the visuals for this will be crazy. We do it easy. The music scene in Canada is just one big melting pot. With influences from Hip Hop, Pop, Reggae, EDM, Afrobeat, and Dancehall to name a few, it’s not a surprise when your favourite act knows the lingo from your music culture. Today, Nemesis, Rizzlaa, and Chillaa are all about their dream girls, mainly Rihanna. Titled “Bad Gal Like RiRi” and produced by Chillaa, we hear them speak on the qualities their ideal women should have and are on the hunt for her. If you’re listening and you fit the criteria, why not give them an @. This single was also featured recently on Major Lazer’s Radio show, and on Drake’s OVO Sound Radio. Lifestyle Blogger ShannyDeLioness is back for another week of “Mixtape Rave“! This week she serves you an array of Mixtapes she’s been feeling over the past 7 days. If you missed the previous installments, check them out here.
His calm demeanor is no telltale as to what he can do with a turntable. DJ Dono V is a young gun who is packing some serious DJing ammo and this mix is just an extension of his crowd rocking club DJing skills.
Some of 2015’s best hits found their way on this mix by ½ of the Trinidadian Musical Gods’ Dei Musicale. My favourite tracks are the Black Chiney x Sizzla Kalonji “Hotline Bling” Remix and of course Major Lazer x DJ Snake’s “Lean On”.
