On International Reggae Day not only do we celebrate Reggae Music, but celebrate the lives of many who contributed to the genre. One artist who is celebrated today is the late Dennis Emmanuel Brown. Known as the “Crown Prince of Reggae“, Dennis Brown was a top tier Reggae artist who created beautiful songs that captured the hearts of many and influenced many upcoming artists. Having passed away on July 1, 1999, I use today to highlight one of his many concerts. Backed by Lloyd Parks and We The People Band, Dennis Brown had great stage presence and commanded the attention of patrons. Celebrate International Reggae Day with the Crown Prince of Reggae! Titled “Reggae City Vol. 1“, this is almost 60 minutes of some of the most popular Reggae singles in rotation. Listen to great contributions from Sizzla Kalonji, Capleton, Beres Hammond, Shaggy, Jah Cure, Chronixx and many more. Prepare to rock the day away to these awesome selections from DJ Levi Chin. Two generations come together today for a new awesome song! The artists are Reggae legend Beres Hammond and his daughter The Wizard. Here The Wizard remixes the timeless “Rockaway” and dubs it the “Wizophelia Mix“. Utilizing the chorus from the song, Wiz adds her electronic sounds to give it that futuristic vibe. Digging through his archives and dropping a track today is Producer/Rapper Kris Karz. Titled “Rebel Music“, this features Singers Ana and Trust and Reggae artist Biggz General. This unmixed version also features a sample from the late Dennis Brown. Here they speak on being a rebel against the system, having their own thoughts and standing out in everything. They also pay respect to famous rebels who fought for the rights of people. A good effort here, given the right push this could be a hit for them all. What do you think? Dropping a new video is Reggae artist Deep Jahi. Titled “Harsh Reality” and directed by Short Filmz Jamaica and YGF Visuals, we hear Jahi speak on the various communities in Jamaica and the activities that happen there. From Flankers to Portmore to St. Mary, people do what they have to do to survive. Deep Jahi says Jamaica is not a playground, so proceed with caution. Magnum Vixens is a new reality series that is featured on CVM TV every Friday at 9:30 PM. Here 24 girls are competing to be selected in a final 12 to become a Magnum Tonic Wine Vixen for one year. Directed by JayWill (Who also did Vybz Kartel’s “Teacha’s Pet”), Magnum brings to the screen a dash of beauty, sex appeal and style that consumers are familiar with via their calenders and roadshows.
