Noisey Jamaica today venutred into the female side of Dancehall Music. Here Codine Williams interviewed popular deejays Spice and Tifa before their rehearsals for Reggae Sumfest. Here Tifa spoke about feuds in Dancehall music, getting a break in the industry as a female artist, and backlash from fellow artists and fans. Spice spoke about her upbringing, her biggest hit “Ramping Shop” with Vybz Kartel, showing support for Vybz Kartel, being compared to Lil Kim with her raunchy lyrics, and Jamaicans being creative with slangs and dances. We also see Spice dancing with her backup dancers and how she interacts with them. I like that their music was featured in these interviews, just wished it was longer. Titled “Champion Bubbler” and directed by MixPak, Tifa deejays about her being the Champion with the dance moves that will drive men crazy and leaving women envious. This sounds Sting ready. Winford Williams interviewed Macka Diamond recently and during the Interview Macka referred to one of her foes as “The Dark One“. It was speculated that deejay Spice was the one Macka Diamond was referring to, and with that Spice sat in the hot seat to address it. Spice spoke on the origin of her feud with Lady Saw, issues with Macka Diamond, her love for Tifa, her change of management and upcoming projects. Lately in Dancehall music the big trend for female Deejays is to make songs about who is the “Wife” and who is the “Matey” along with the many tricks they use to “hold” their man. Many of these songs get the biggest “Forwards” (Pull up/Spins/Crowd Reaction) in the sessions and on radio stations.
