PRESS RELEASE: @JojosJerkPit Raw Talent Competition – Round 1 Ends With Success

Jo Jo’s Jerk Pit and More, Raw Talent Competition has been heating up the past four weeks, with over 20 competitors turning out for the weekly elimination rounds held each Thursday night at Jo Jo’s on Waterloo Road. Anna Chin, Owner of Jo Jo’s and the visionary behind the Raw Talent competition says

“I am more than proud of this competition and what it has offered many young persons…. I think we have developed an important platform that affords Jamaica’s raw talent the opportunity to be seen by a diverse audience each week”.

Elimination Round one which took place on Saturday May 2 featured an intense night of live battle sing offs with the top 6 competitors for the month of April, resulting in Edna Manley College Music School final year student,  Keiko Smith taking first place and Shanique “Girl” Brown taking second place. these two competitors will now advance to the live music elimination round.

Qualifying rounds will continue every Thursday night in May with successful contestants battling it out during Elimination Round 2 on May 30 for a spot in the semi finals and the coveted opportunity to perform live at the Finals on June 27 with the Jojos resident band!

This goes out to all the mamas, the baby mamas, the grandmothers, the aunties…you get the drift. Did you ever notice every year on Mother’s Day you hear some very familiar songs on the radio? Well I can’t be the only one so today my Oldies Sunday selection focuses on 5 Jamaican songs that never failed in getting airplay on Mother’s Day.

#5 – Richie Stephens x Bounty Killa – Pot Of Gold

With a mix of Richie Stephens’ singing and Bounty’s deejaying, this tribute was recorded for the “Pot Of Gold” label and has been a staple every year since it’s release.

#4 – Anthony Cruz – Mama’s Blessing

Released in 2003/2004 on the “I Swear” Riddim, Anthony Cruz sang about the hardships his mother went through to provide the best life for him. Never fails when it comes getting airplay this time of the year.

Even thugs have mamas and today Jamaican Rapper Zuse released a dedication to his. Titled “Oh Mama“, and directed by KinLabs, Zuse speaks on what his mother has done for him even when he was getting himself into trouble, giving him advice, and warning him of the dangers out there. The visual depicts a younger Zuse bonding with his mother. Not a bad effort and a break from some of the ballads for Mother’s Day. Show her some love for not just today, but for every day. Here she spoke on the status of her relationship with Michael Cuffe Jr and wanting the public to respect their privacy, her new single “Fire“, being better musically, her thoughts on her “Count On My Love” album and its reception, life after “The Voice“, giving credit to her parents who have played a huge part in her life and career, her partnership with her sisters, upcoming performances and more.
