Calypso Rose’s @MoLaudi Remix Of “Calypso Queen” Featured In “Mayfair Witches”!

Caught up with any TV shows lately? Are you familiar with the new series called, “Mayfair Witches“? This newly debuted series focuses on Dr. Rowan Fielding who discovers that she is the heiress to a dynasty of powerful Witches haunted by a sinister spirit. This supernatural thriller premiered on January 8 on AMC, and featured this iconic Caribbean track for a scene.

The legendary Calypso Rose got some shine during the debut episode of “Mayfair Witches”. A remix of her single “Calypso Queen” was featured in “The Witching Hour” episode. Released in 2016, “Calypso Queen” was remixed by South African DJ Mo Laudi, and was a part of a series of Calypso Rose remixes that were released in the same year. Calypso Rose has enjoyed an over 40 year career, is considered the “Mother of Calypso“, and has secured the title of “Calypso Queen” so many times, that the “Calypso King” competition had to be renamed to the “Calypso Monarch” in her honour. “Mayfair Witches” is out now for viewing on AMC, and for streaming on AMC+.

OLDIES SUNDAY: @DuttyPaul X @MrVegasMusic – Hot Gal Today (1999)

Ready for some throwbacks? It’s Oldies Sunday! Today’s selection comes from one of Jamaica’s most successful Dancehall Artists, who also celebrates a birthday today. His name is Sean Paul, and we feature the track, “Hot Gal Today“!

Produced by Steely & Clevie on the “Street Sweeper Riddim“, featuring Dancehall Artist Mr. Vegas, and released through Studio 2000 in 1999, “Hot Gal Today” finds Sean Paul and Vegas battling over who will be the lucky man to win a Woman’s heart. Throughout the track they taunt one another, proclaiming that they’re the better candidate in the process. Like two Politicians fighting for a seat on Election Day, they go at it, and listeners are entertained by the back and forth. “Hot Gal Today” was a hit for Sean Paul and Mr. Vegas, boosting their profiles as Sean scored a few hits before, and Vegas was breaking out of his “upcoming Artist” status with previous releases. “Hot Gal Today” was featured on Sean Paul’s debut album, “Stage One“, which was released in 2000.

Since the release of “Hot Gal Today”, Sean Paul went on to have a career that successfully crossed over into the International market, securing a GRAMMY win, multiplatinum status, and a Pop status that keeps his name in the top tiers to this day. Regardless of his status, “Hot Gal Today” is still loved by many worldwide.

Sister Maureen "Embrace" on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #Dancehall #Music #13thStreetPromotions #SisterMaureen #Embrace #Caribbean

Sister Maureen Returns With A Message Of Accepting Yourself On “Embrace”!

Dancehall emerged onto the scene in the late 70s/early 80s with a sound that was like no other. Thanks to a handful of talented individuals, the genre took off in a major way, and soon became a global sensation. Though it was a Male-driven territory at first, it was soon challenged by Female Artists including Sister Nancy, Sister Carol, Shelly Thunder, Lady G, and many others. One Female act who stepped up and chose to challenge her Male counterparts was Sister Maureen. Throughout the 80s, she enjoyed a run that birthed a few singles including “Toots” and “Make Them Understand“, but stepped away from the spotlight in the years that followed. Returning with a new focus, Sister Maureen delivers the new single, “Embrace“!

While she challenged Male Artists back in the day, Sister Maureen chooses to challenge beauty standards on “Embrace”. With many Women seeking various ways to alter their looks and slow down the aging process including through a series of expensive surgeries, “Embrace” is all about accepting yourself, and placing natural beauty at the top of the pedestal. Sister Maureen accepts growing old, and with it comes the wisdom that she doesn’t need to chase youth. Over modern Dancehall production, “Embrace” will connect with the right people who need to hear the message, and a Dancehall vet will find herself in a new territory to further develop the new chapter in her life.
