YoungPow Unleashes 90’s Dancehall Vibes With Chino McGregor On “Riddim Ryda Style”

Throw on your Travel Fox and Karl Kani for this one! Grammy award winning Producer/Songwriter Sean “YoungPow” Diedrick wants to take you back to a wonderful time in music, the 90’s Dancehall era, with a twist! Having recently announced the “Riddim Ryda” project, he kicked things off with the release of “Who She Like” featuring veteran Dancehall artist Mr. G. Having made some noise, he’s following up with Chino McGregor on the track, “Riddim Ryda Style“!

On “Riddim Ryda Style”, Chino gives listeners his signature vocals, and doesn’t hold back on the deejaying as he treats YoungPow’s Riddim like a heavy bag at the gym. Ready to mash up any session, Chino gives the 90s the proper respect, and YoungPow picked the right sounds to put together something awesome. “The inspiration for the beat came to me while I was experimenting with one of my sample packs, (‘Sounds From Yard’, Vol. 1),” YoungPow explained. “It’s a somewhat throwback vibe with a modern mix.” The “Riddim Ryda” project also features Popcaan, Common Kings, Kabaka Pyramid, Falkon, and more. “Riddim Ryda” is also a follow up to his “Turn It Up Riddim” project, and Answele’s “Jah Is In Control” single, which were released this past summer.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Big Youth – S90 Skank (1974)

It’s Heroes Weekend in Jamaica, and we know many will find a way to have some fun during the Covid 19 Pandemic (Please be safe, and don’t add to the high positive cases). While there is a curfew implemented, that won’t stop the people from taking trips around the Island. Many would be looking forward to crews and gangs revving their choice of Bikes ranging from “Ninja Bikes” to “Yeng Yengs”, and today’s Oldies Sunday is a tribute to that, and honour a legend. Today’s selection comes from Manley Buchanan O.D. a.k.a. the great Big Youth with the track, “S90 Skank“.

Produced by Keith Hudson for his Imbidmts label and released in 1974, the track was inspired by the Honda S90, a popular Motorcycle in Jamaica at the time. The song featured Big Youth performing a series of half singing and toasting throughout the track, and you could hear the revving of a Bike at various parts. When recording, a Bike was brought into the Studio for added realism. The song turned out to be Big Youth’s first hit single, and was even used by Honda for a S90 Commercial. The track was featured on his “Everyday Youth (The Best Of Big Youth)” album in 1980, and “Cool Breeze – Ride Like Lightning: The Best Of Big Youth 1972-1976” album in 2002. Big Youth went on release many hits and projects over the years, and become an influence to generations of Reggae/Dancehall artists. This month (October 2020), he has been awarded the Order Of Distinction by the Government of Jamaica for his various contributions to the culture.

Happy Friday folks! We know many started off the day on the wrong foot, but we hope our latest entry changes all that. In fact, we believe that when you watch Ras-I’s “Kingman Ting” music video, you’ll find a huge smile plastered on your face!

Directed by LatyKim, Ras-I is fresh from the palace with this one. With great shots throughout, the addition of musicians, dancers, good friends, and great vibes, this is the video to keep on repeat. Having enjoyed a buzz since the single’s release, Ras-I and the song’s Co-Producers Koastal Kings knew they’ve found a hit once completed. It’s safe to say “Kingman Ting” is one of the year’s best releases, and we know Ras-I has more in store. Wha dem a go do fi stop Rasta?

Will The Wolf Releases Visual For Second Single, “I See You”!

Trini Recording Artist/Creative Will The Wolf is striking while the iron’s hot in his music career. Having enjoyed a buzz with his debut single, “Bang“, he knows he has to keep it going and expand his brand. He follows up with the 2nd single, “I See You“.

Produced by Solo Otto, Will The Wolf makes some observations on someone he cares about, and being careful about who and where he shares his energy over a sweet guitar looped instrumental. The accompanying video was directed Will and shot by Josiah Persad Films, and takes a different step from his successful Napoleon Dynamite inspired debut, and we get a well shot video partially set in a very cozy looking home and ending with a bird’s eye view of some of the island’s beauty. Got to respect the consistency and quality from Will The Wolf, just imagine what many will witness when he reaches his debut project.

Recording Artist Rhiya Luna likes to have fun, whether it’s being at the club, or just chilling with friends. Sometimes she takes it easy, other times she has way too much fun, and she feels the effects of it in the morning. Today, she shares something about the latter situation in, “Can’t Recall“.

Produced by longtime collaborator Nuh Response Production on the “Breathe Riddim“, Rhiya finds herself feeling the after effects of having way too much to drink at a party the night before, not being able to recall everything that happened throughout, and having difficulty facing the day ahead. It gets like that when you’re having a lot of fun with friends, but we also urge you all to drink responsibly. A song that will have many looking back at their own similar situations and build a vibe with, Rhiya Luna may have found another hit with this one.
