Today’s Oldies Sunday is dedicated to the late Frederick “Toots” Hibbert. A man who knew a thing or few about longevity, Toots Hibbert is the originator of the genre we know as “Reggae“. A man who inspired generations, created hits, and looked good doing it all, the world was definitely rocked when he made his transition on September 11. As founder and member of The Maytals, today we highlight the selection, “Do The Reggay“.

Produced by Leslie Kong and released through the Beverley’s Records in 1968, “Do The Reggay” was made to accompany a popular dance of the same name. While the song didn’t feature complex lyrics, it provided fun sounds that prompted listeners to get into a groove. Through the release of the single, Toots Hibbert is named as a pioneer of Reggae music as “Do The Reggay” marked a shift from the Ska and Rocksteady eras of music into a new genre of more upbeat sounds, and generations of new artists.

Today, regardless of anything, we just want you to enjoy the music, and remember one of the greatest artists to ever emerge from Jamaica. Rest in Peace Toots Hibbert, and thank you for the classics! Indiana based Dancehall Artist D-Feezy has been staying busy this year. Following up his 2019 “New Topic” project with the “Kingston To Naptown” project earlier this year along with numerous singles, he’s on a mission to keep his name buzzing all year round. Recently, he announced the “Project Breaking Through” album, and he gave listeners a dose of new music with the single, “Can’t Forget That“.

Produced by Big Beats Productions and released through Awah Nation, the single features Recording Artist Mz. Monies. On the track, they keep the temperatures rising as they trade sensual lyrics to each other. With “Quarantine and Chill” being a thing for a few couples out there, “Can’t Forget That” makes a great addition to the sexy Dancehall Playlists out there. When you get it so good that you can’t stop thinking about it and wanting more, it’s a serious thing. Stay safe out there, and have happy “Quarantine and Chill” sessions.

Producer Wavy Jones, who has been one of the folks doing his part in ushering in a new wave, has been steadily making his sounds be heard in various parts of the world. Today, he invites you all to experience a dose of “Sine Energy” from his new EP.

Released through In Good Company and comprised of 6 tracks, Wavy Jones creates a space for for some beautiful sounds paired with some individuals who stand out when they express their art. With Leno Banton, Mila.Akilah, Blvk H3ro, Jeeby, Shawn J. Smith, Kione Zaire, Dxcape, and Ramia onboard, this EP is guaranteed to be your favourite this year. After giving listeners a dose with “Ketch Di Pree” earlier this year, expect nuff more niceness when you press play on the whole project. The year 2020 came with plenty surprises for better or for worse. One surprise that we can all be happy about is Dancehall icon Super Cat returning to scene to deliver new music! Like a master returning to civilization after intense training, Super Cat links up with legendary Producer Salaam Remi to give us, “Push Time“.

Released through Wild Apache/Louder Than Life Records, Salaam Remi gives Super Cat some proper sounds to assist in the Don Dada’s social commentary lyrics, and his declaration that he’s back to speak to the world! With a video directed by NEWD4Y JOVI and Salaam Remi, Super Cat can be seen in New York with his peers including Tek of the legendary Hip Hop duo Smif-N-Wessun, interacting with beautiful ladies, and pays tribute to the late legendary Jam Master Jay of the legendary Hip Hop group Run DMC. Although he showed up on the scene years ago, it’s great to we get to start the new decade with his latest musical contribution. We look forward to more including the album that “Push Time” will be featured on called, “Black On Purpose“.
