OLDIES SUNDAY: Karen Smith – Wide Awake In A Dream (1986)

This Oldies Sunday selection is for the lovers, and it comes from the “Songbird from Jamaica“, Karen Smith! Today we go back to the year 1986 with “Wide Awake In A Dream“. Produced by Clifton “Jackie” Jackson, this was a cover of a single that has been sung by the likes of Barry Biggs, The Blues Busters, Jerry Jackson, Lyn Collins, Vickie Anderson, and Ken Boothe. Once she stepped into recording mode, Smith added her own flair to the track as she expresses how she feels about the love of her life. A video was also shot for this single, and it was directed by Alfonso Walker (I remember seeing this video a lot growing up on local TV).

.@KansHTG & @DaleyHTG Are All About The Laid Back Vibe In “Chill Suite” Video!

After releasing his EP “Indelible Colours” at the top of the month, Mobay based Rapper Chance has been enjoying favourable feedback from listeners. As promised, he would be releasing more product throughout 2018. The first offering since the EP is the visual for his 2017 track, “Chill Suite“! Shot by Romario Lynch a.k.a. “Seen By Lynch” in Portland, the visual features fellow collaborator Daley, and a Creative you’ll being seeing more often this year, Gyal Kapone (friend of the Blog). Fellow collaborator OneLoveTheo though not physically there, adds audio. While the song brought some laid back vibes, the video does the same as Daley and Chance are hosts to a few lovely ladies at a lil hideaway spot. Only thing missing from this video are some dope graphics, and a few wild moments (wink wink). If you haven’t heard it yet, Chance’s “Indelible Colours EP” is available here. Check out the video below.

In case you weren’t aware, the Trap Music trio Migos released their highly anticipated “Culture 2” Album a few hours ago. While the Album features the singles “Motorsport“, “Supastars“, and “Stir Fry“, a familiar sounding set of vocals can be heard in track 13, “Crown The Kings“. If you guessed right, the legendary Bob Marley & The Wailers has been featured on the Album in the form of a sample. Borrowing from the 1973 track, “Get Up, Stand Up“, the chorus can be heard throughout the production which was handled by Quavo and DJ Durel. “Get Up, Stand Up” was written by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, and featured on The Wailers’ 1973 Album, “Burnin’“. Various versions of the song have been recorded by Marley, Tosh, and Bunny Wailer. It has also been covered and remixed by the likes of Tracy Chapman, Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, Shaggy, The Rolling Stones, and has even been parodied on an episode of “Futurama“. “Culture 2” is available now on all streaming services.

@MGeeMusic Calls For Peace In “Stop The Violence” Single

Jamaica started off 2018 on a bad note if we’re being honest. The surge of crime and violence continues to make its move on the Island, and it was shown in the number of incidents in the first 25 days. It is time we look into ourselves and try to make a change, but it’ll take some time for us to get it right. Spreading a message in his music today is Recording Artist M-Gee with “Stop The Violence“. Produced by GS Music Entertainment, M-Gee shares being tired of hearing bad news, attending Funerals, and posting “R.I.P.” messages. He calls for those participating in crimes to look into themselves to do better as too many innocent people are being taken down. He also asks the question of who supplies the weapons as those living in the Ghetto are not responsible for carrying them in. Our culture is filled with unique Food, Fashion, Art, and Music that is recognized the world over, Crime and Violence should not be a part of it. Give peace a chance! M-Gee’s new single is distributed through Zojak Worldwide with assistance from Suss Media, and is available on iTunes for purchase. Check out the track below.

.@AmaraLaNegraALN Speaks On Race & Doesn’t Conform To Certain Beauty Standards In @BreakfastClubAM Interview!

Amara La Negra is on her way to being larger than life. The Recording Artist/Model/Reality Show Star recently passed through Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, and had a chat with hosts Angela Yee, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne Tha God. With a bubbling personality that has been taking over the entertainment scene, Amara discussed racial issues including the challenges she has faced growing up and throughout her career, and the similarities and differences between being black in America, and being black in Latin America. She also spoke on challenging the standards of beauty in the American and Latino entertainment industry, being on Love & Hip Hop: Miami, signing to a recording contract with BMG, her love life, and a lot more. Although she’s 3 episodes in on Love & Hip Hop, she has become the popular personality of the season, and many of us look forward to what else she has in store for her career.
