OLDIES SUNDAY: Reel 2 Real – I Like To Move It (1993)

Ready to turn up the vibes? For today’s Oldies Sunday selection, we’re throwing a party that even the pets will enjoy. Today, we go back to the 90s to check out Colombian/Trinidadian/American duo Reel 2 Real’sI Like To Move It“.

Produced by Ralphie Muniz and 1/2 of Reel 2 Real’s Erick Morillo and released through Strictly Rhythm in 1993, “I Like To Move It” was Mark Quashie a.k.a. The Mad Stuntman a.k.a. the other 1/2 of Reel 2 Real’s showcase of deejaying over some House Music production. The high energy track was made to get the people moving and rock rooms, with Dancehall/Ragga-inspired lyrics being chanted throughout. With the line “I like to move it move it…“, listeners were in for a good time. The track was included on Reel 2 Real’s 1994 debut album, “Move It!“. “I Like To Move It” was an instant hit for ravers as it secured #1 chart placements in a number of countries including Belgium, Canada, France, Zimbabwe, The Netherlands, and the UK, and top 10 placements in even more countries. The track went on to win a number of awards over the years, went gold in Australia, France, the UK, The Netherlands, and Germany, and has been hailed as one of the best EDM, Party, and 90s songs of all time by a number of publications.

The success of “I Like To Move It” didn’t stop at just chart placements. It was remixed a number of times over the years as well. The track is one of the most frequently licensed songs, appearing on numbers of compilations yearly. It appeared in commercials for USPS, McDonalds, Durex, Jeep, Toyota, and the Fairy dishwasher brand, used in the video games “Just Dance“, “DJ Hero“, “Mario Strikers Charged“, and “SingStar Dance“, and a dance emote inspired by it appeared in “Fortnite“. It was included in a number of TV shows and Films including “American Dad!“, “New York Undercover“, and “Saving Silverman“, but it was at its most popular when it appeared in the “Madagascar” animated film franchise thanks to it being performed by the character King Julien, becoming the official theme song of the franchise. The song still holds a level of popularity to this day.

Since the release of “I Like To Move It”, Reel 2 Real went on to release more music before disbanding in 1997. Erick Morillo continued to produce and DJ until his death in 2020, while Mark Quashie continued to release more music over the years, in between performing “I Like To Move It”. Reel 2 Real owned the 90s, while their biggest hit is still making an impact.

THANK YOU REEL 2 REAL FOR THIS CLASSIC!

1SkiMask Dedicates New Single To The “Real” Ones

We all need genuine people around us. When the world has our backs against the wall, we need that special person or those persons who have our best interest at heart. While many of us aren’t so lucky to have them, 1SkiMask takes the time to acknowledge the ones in his corner. He speaks about them on the new single, “Real“.

Produced by Tru Ambassador Ent.’s own Week.Day, 1SkiMask uses the time to shout out the real friends, emphasizing the importance of love and loyalty in his life. In a time where it’s easy for people to sell out family and friends for validation from strangers and material things and relationships are broken because of deceptive ways, it’s a blessing that there are still good people around who value the importance of love and loyalty. 1SkiMask is still lighting up venues with his performances, and we know he has a lot more music to put out in the coming weeks. Be on the look out for more content from Valdomore as well. Big up the real ones.

.@WhoIsBEAM Pays Tribute To Fu-Schnickens On “FU”

2023 celebrates 50 years of Hip Hop, and its culture has been one of great influence. While many of you know of its history, the art form continues to birth new talent, new ideas, and new movements from around the world. Rapper/Producer BEAM is not only a student, but he uses his talents to pay tribute to those who have previously made contributions to Hip Hop’s development. He steps up with the video for the track, “FU“.

Directed by madebyJAMES, City James, and Darrin James, BEAM uses his platform to honour 50 years of Hip Hop, pay tribute to the classic Hip Hop trio FU-Schnickens and their 1992 hit “True Fuschnick, and salute to the Dancehall styles of his Father, Gospel Recording Artist/Minister Papa San. Both FU-Schnickens and Papa San ruled their respective music arenas with their speedy flows, and they definitely inspired many to borrow the styles. Salute the OGs. The black and white visual takes us back to the 90s, and BEAM has no problem ripping the beat, and letting loose his barrage of flows and bars. We’re taken through a number of New York spots and buildings, and this track is one to be celebrated. Many will say there’s nothing like the old school, but we believe in combining the best of the old and the new to make something special. Salute to Chip Fu, Moc Fu, Poc Fu, Papa San, and Hip Hop!

Bella Blair Keeps Them Talking With “Desperado” Single

Reggae/Dancehall Recording Artist/Actress Bella Blair is back again with something new! Having made a big return to music earlier this year, she’s on a mission to put her name on more billboards and fliers, and take her music to even more parts of the world. She has the ladies dancing to “Hotty Hotty Ting“, and now she’ll have the people talking with the new single, “Desperado“.

Produced by Yo Christon, “Desperado” finds Bella Blair bringing out a lil more of her bad gyal energy, while still giving us a song to rock to.
