Manchester To Offer Unique Cuisine & More With Upcoming Food & Drink Festival

[NEW DATE, Jan. 1, 2025]

2024 has been a year for big events. Whatever your taste was, the Island had an event to accommodate you. While many big events are held in the Island’s capital of Kingston, there have complaints and suggestions to give the other Parishes a chance to host. The Parish of Manchester, where the city life collides with the country life, has been one of the spots that seeks to provide a home to many special events. Next year, it will launch its own Food & Drink Festival.

Organized by Di Village and held at Brooks Park in Mandeville, the “Manchester Food & Drink Festival” aims to introduce a variety of unique cuisine to the public, provide a platform for the upcoming and seasoned Chef, host live entertainment, and amplify the message that the Parish of Manchester is very capable of hosting some of the Island’s best events. With the construction of the Southern Coastal Highway, transportation has been made easier, making the Parish a central hotspot. The Festival was announced earlier this year, and the Organizers have been on the road spreading awareness of the event, inviting Vendors and Sponsors to make their contributions to the event, and adding the finishing touches for the big day. Olivia Coley, a member of the organizing team, has been making connections with various Schools in the Parish, giving students with Culinary ambitions to showcase their talent through a series of events at the Festival. She looks forward to great support from not only Manchester, but the rest of Jamaica, and hopes to make it a yearly family event.

For the foodies, food lovers, and Festival seekers, the “Manchester Food & Drink Festival” welcomes you on Wednesday, January 1 at Brooks Park, Mandeville from 1 P.M. to 10 P.M.. You can pay at the gate to attend, and they range from $2000 for Adults, $1000 for the 10-17 age group, while kids enter free. If you wish to secure tickets, “Dealz N Tings” at Grove Court (Mandeville), and “Water Drops Waterstore” at the Central Dealers Mall (Formerly Caledonia Mall in Mandeville) are the outlets to get them. Get Some Of @KesTheBand’s “Cocoa Tea” In Your Life!

It’s a new week, and some of us are having a hard time adjusting for the busy days. For some of us, we never wanted the weekend to end, but life doesn’t work like that. Fortunately, there is always something or someone who is there to keep you going. For Kes, we learn about, “Cocoa Tea“.

Produced by Tano, Kes and the band come through with a dedication to that Woman who is definitely “Ms. Pick Me Up” in “Cocoa Tea”. When it comes to your person, nothing can ruin your day when they’re in it. For the sunny days, for the rainy ones, you two become a bubbling pot of fun, love, and lasting memories. Over some smooth production, the song comes at a good time as it’s getting chilly, and we’re gonna need a “live blanket“. Come 2025, Kes will be celebrating a 20 year career, and make it a moment at the IZWE 25 concert at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Trinidad. Play the new tune for your lover.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Chuck Turner – I Need You (1988)

On “Oldies Sunday“, we celebrate the Singers. The ones who know how to add melodies to the songs we enjoy. No matter their level, there’s an audience for them. Today’s selection comes from a Singer who many consider underrated. He goes by the name Chuck Turner, and we feature his track, “I Need You“.

Produced by King Jammy’s on the “I Need You Riddim“/”Cat Paw Riddim” and released through Jammy’s Records in 1988, “I Need You” is Chuck Turner’s Dancehall cover of the 1985 hit single by the late Singer and founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, Maurice White. Turner makes the original track his with his unique vocals, handling the Riddim provided properly throughout. “I Need You” quickly became a hit, and gave Turner opportunities to perform the track in Jamaica, throughout the Caribbean, and other parts of the world. The track would later be featured on Turner’s “One The Hard Way” album, and on numerous compilations.

Since the release of “I Need You”, Chuck Turner became of the standout voices of the 80’s Dancehall scene. He released more music in the 1990s, and is still active in the music business. He was involved in a couple near-death experiences, made an appearance at the popular Rebel Salute event, and even reunited with King Jammy’s in the late 2010s. “I Need You” is his biggest hit, and is still played around the world.

Thank You Chuck Turner For This Classic!
