2017 Faves: @LenoBanton x @TheRoyalBlu – Meanwhile (#5)

As 2017 comes to a close, we look back at a few songs that were favourites on the Blog for the year. While we can’t name EVERY one, we’ll give you 5 (in no particular order so hold off on the ego) to reminisce on, or get familiar with.

Starting at #5, is “Meanwhile” by the duo of Recording Artists Leno Banton and Royal Blu. Produced by JLL, the track was released in March and features the Artists going bar for bar, and pound for pound like two Heavyweight contenders in the ring. With a mix of lyrics, flows and melodies from the two, it would’ve been nice to get a collaborative EP from them next year (hint hint). Artwork provided by Paige Zxmbie and Khari Kamau. Bless up, check out “Meanwhile” below.

OLDIES SUNDAY (Christmas): @NinjaManMusic – Christmas Breeze (1988)

It’s Christmas Eve, and we bring to you our final entry in the Christmas Edition of “Oldies Sunday“! Today we call up “Di original Gold teet, front teet, gun pon teet, Don Gorgon“, Ninja Man! With Christmas in the air, we present to you his 1988 single, “Christmas Breeze“! Produced by L. Hellyter for the UK based Sling 1 Label, Ninja brings the Holiday vibes as the “Gold toothed Santa” to the session as he speaks on feeling the “Christmas breeze“, wanting to feel happy around this time of the year, encouraging unity, enjoying Christmas in any way you can, and his Christmas experiences in Kingston and London.

This post also pays a small tribute to the Don Gorgon as he was given a life sentence this past week. We will miss his commentary, his persona, and his presence in the Dancehall world. We wished that “Get Out of Jail Free” card worked.

THANK YOU NINJAMAN, AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!

OLDIES SUNDAY (Christmas): @Mutabaruka_Ja – Postpone Christmas (1983)

Season’s Greetings! We’re back with another Holiday themed Oldies Sunday! Stepping in with a selection is the one and only, Media Personality/Activist/Dub Poet/Author Mutabaruka! We go back to the year 1983 with “Postpone Christmas“! Produced by Earl “Chinna” Smith, this was released through the High Times Label. In the song, Muta speaks on those living pay cheque to pay cheque, poverty, those spending more than they earn, crime and violence, and calls for the postponement of the season until things are better. He puts the spotlight on issues that still affect many to this day and around this time of the year. Not your typical Christmas song, but something to think about. We hope you enjoyed our selection, please tune in next Sunday for another in the series! Big up Mutabaruka, lyrics like a Bazooka!

@Jhus Calls Up @PopcaanMusic For The “Bouff Daddy (Dre Skull Remix)”!

UK based Recording Artist J Hus has been on fire this year thanks to his debut Album “Common Sense“, and his appearances on tracks from Krept & Konan, Stormzy, and more. Canada based Rapper Solyd Roy says “No more parties in JA” as he drops a new tune! Titled “Nuttin’ Good“, this is produced by K, Le Maestro and finds the Rapper being a terrible role model all while picking up the pace and having fun on this sample driven beat. If aren’t familiar with Solyd, we featured one of his tracks, “Cruff Daddy” last year. With an EP in the making, you might be hearing him more in the near future. A remix to this track would be fire though. Cover art by ShotByDeth. Whether you’re a goody two shoes, or a good for nothing individual, treat your ears to this below!

Shie Changes Name To Rhiya Luna, Releases New Single, “Sweetest Love”!

If you were a reader of our “15 Artists To Watch Out For In Summer 2017” post, you would’ve come across an Artist by the name of Shie. Though she took a break from music, she’s back on the scene and has since released a couple songs. To close off 2017 however, she has gone through a name change, and will be now known as “Rhiya Luna“. Her first offering with the new name is titled, “Sweetest Love“! Produced by VanClive of Street Fame Records, she took a break from the Dancehall vibes as she lets us know that she needs love, and can offer the best kind in return. It is a different sound coming from her, and there’s no telling what’s next from her and she likes to be unpredictable. Something for the lovers out there, and an addition to the “Love” playlists for this holiday season, and next year. How deep is your love for me? Check out the track below!
