Roze Don Hops On A Classic Sound For “BAM BAM”

It wouldn’t have been Summer if Dancehall Artist Roze Don didn’t make a contribution. The Deejay has managed to stay consistent with the music, and fans anticipate every release. This time around, he’s getting the ladies ready to bubble in, “Bam Bam“.

Produced by Bugzy2Flashy for 2 Flashy Records/Dark Disciple Records, Roze Don wants all the ladies to get on bad in, “Bam Bam”. The track taps into a familiar sound, which is the classic “Bam Bam” by the legendary “Riddim Twins” Sly & Robbie. “Bam Bam” gave us hits like “Murder She Wrote” by Chaka Demus & Pliers, “Dem A Bleach” by Nardo Ranks, and was sampled by many over the years (Check out our “Sampling Sly & Robbie” Playlist). Roze Don does the Riddim justice by providing a song that will have the ladies dropping the shyness, and showing off how that booty bounces on the dance floor. The track is accompanied by a Music Video directed by Banka for Bankroller Visuals, and features an appearance by Video Vixen Zho. Summer caan done just yet, tune in to some new Roze Don.

The Sister Nancy Sampled “Baila Conmigo” Single Gets Featured In New @Instagram Campaign!

They say Dancehall caan stall, and it continues to seep into Pop Culture, and many other avenues. In 2020, the legendary Sister Nancy’s classic “Bam Bam” was sampled in DJ Yellow Claw’s hit single “Baila Conmigo” featuring Saweetie, INNA, and Jenn Morel, and today it got featured in Social Media platform Instagram’s latest campaign!

Doing their part in providing informative content during the Covid 19 Pandemic, Instagram’s latest campaign, the Sister Nancy sampled “Baila Conmigo” by Yellow Claw was used as the campaign’s soundtrack. The animated visual also featured a dancer sporting clothes which represented Jamaica’s flag colours of Black, Gold, and Green. Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam” was released in 1982, and is considered one of the most sampled Jamaican songs in music history. Today, January 2, 2021, we celebrate the 59th birthday of the iconic Sister Nancy. An artist who broke barriers and paved the way for many female Dancehall artists, Sister Nancy is a legend through and through. In honour of her birthday, we feature her in our latest Playlist (and 1st Playlist of the year)!

Highlighting her 1982 classic, “Bam Bam“, we look back at some of the times the single was sampled. From Jay Z to Amara La Negra, from Logic to Tamar Braxton, “Bam Bam” has come a long way to becoming one of the most sampled tracks in music. Take a trip down memory lane and learn something. While she showed us that you have to aim high and put in the work on her debut single, she now encourages us to have “Ambition“! Released through her Mother Raine Seville’s Seville Records, Layla borrows the legendary Bam Bam Riddim from Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare and drops some words that we all need to hear with her proud Mama helping out throughout the song. Whether you’re 2 months or 99 years old, ambition is something that we should all have in order to achieve greatness in life. Layla-Rei gets to work in the video playing various roles, and this was made possible through the efforts of Michael McLeish, and Rockwildaz who handled directing and editing duties. What a “Bam bam” today! Keeping out of the way of naysayers and idlers is Dancehall artist Raine Seville with “Chat Mi“. The single, produced by JJ Wizzle (SunCity 104.9FM), samples the popular “Bam Bam Riddim” made famous by Chaka Demus & Pliers and other artists. On the track we hear Raine getting at those who keep her name in their mouths and speak ill of her and lets them know that she’s too humble, too sexy, and too busy to let them damage her career. She also encourages ladies out there to follow her footsteps in never letting people get them down. OLDIES SUNDAY: Chaka Demus And Pliers – Murder She Wrote (1992)

In recognition of French Montana and Nicki Minaj’s hit, “Freaks“, today I feature one of the songs that was sampled in it. Titled “Murder She Wrote“, this was a very popular hit of legendary duo Chaka Demus and Pliers. Released in 1992 and produced by Sly and Robbie on the “Bam Bam” remake riddim, this song was described as a song for the ladies with an “Angel face but a Devil’s heart“. This song spoke about a girl named Maxine who was a user, very promiscuous, and was also a murderer. According to the artists, this was written off an experience but with a few details omitted.
