Road To The Reggae Grammy: We Look Back At The Nominations Of 1985!

With the staging of the 60th Grammy Awards drawing near, we thought we’d look back at some of years where the Reggae Grammy was won. While many know of the winners, we also want to look back at some of the nominees. Today we’ll look at the year 1985, which was the first time that a Grammy was awarded for the Reggae category.

Before the “Best Reggae Album” Grammy, there was the “Best Reggae Recording” category. This category was open to both singles and albums before officially switching to the album only format in 1992. Jimmy Cliff’s hit single “Reggae Night” was thrown into the running. The single was produced by Amir Bayyan, Jim Bonnefond, and Ronald Bell, and was written by Bayyan and La Toya Jackson. This single was also featured on the Artist’s 1983 Album, “The Power And The Glory”. It went on to be one of Cliff’s biggest hits.

.@AmaraLaNegraALN Speaks On Race & Doesn’t Conform To Certain Beauty Standards In @BreakfastClubAM Interview!

Amara La Negra is on her way to being larger than life. The Recording Artist/Model/Reality Show Star recently passed through Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, and had a chat with hosts Angela Yee, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne Tha God. With a bubbling personality that has been taking over the entertainment scene, Amara discussed racial issues including the challenges she has faced growing up and throughout her career, and the similarities and differences between being black in America, and being black in Latin America. She also spoke on challenging the standards of beauty in the American and Latino entertainment industry, being on Love & Hip Hop: Miami, signing to a recording contract with BMG, her love life, and a lot more. Although she’s 3 episodes in on Love & Hip Hop, she has become the popular personality of the season, and many of us look forward to what else she has in store for her career. In our “2018 Predictions” post, we predicted that there will be more Women making their way onto the Caribbean Music scene. In an Industry that hasn’t always been kind to the Female Artist, we have enjoyed the works from many over the years, but we have also asked for some who can step outside the box and give us music that’ll blow us away! The following Artists have been slowly making their name out there for some time, and aim to be mentioned along with their established peers.
