It’s been a while since we’ve heard Jamaican Rapper Slim I.D. over here. Ever since he released his debut project, “The Initiative“, Slim has been a bit off-line but kept busy cooking up the masterpieces for listeners to consume. While he was featured on MoulaUE’s “Pray” earlier this year, Slim’s back on the scene with “Pop Shit“! Here Slim goes into beast mode and gives you the bars over a Trap beat provided by Jefferson Beats. Slim ups the flexing on this one and promises “Pop Shit” is just the beginning as he aims to flood the streets and your playlists very soon. When Moula Di Don, Slim I.D. and Karma Crew team up for a new track, expect fireworks to go off! Today the Montego Bay based Rappers premiere their single, “Pray“. Produced by Jones Beatz, the trio fire off bars speaking on their personal experiences in everyday life, and their respective music careers. They also come together to ask the Man above to watch over them and guide their steps. While we know what each lyricist is capable of, Slim I.D. aims to steal the show this time around. Moula is currently working his follow up to his “Know My Intentions EP” but we’re not sure if this will make the final cut but a dope song nonetheless. Introducing to the Blog, is Recording Artist Zac Jone$! Bringing in his own flavour of “Yaard Rap” with his new project, “Ridin’ Thru King$ton“. This 5 track project is described as “A sonic joyride through KING$TON, Jamaica with Zac Jone$ at the wheel“, this features production from Negium, Felly, GamerBoomin, ICYTWAT, and MNSTRMKK with Felly, GYYPS and Benjamin contributing verses. The Jamaican Hip Hop movement has spread far and wide over the years and despite it not being as mainstream as its musical sibling, Dancehall, it has been on the radar of many top and upcoming Artists and Producers elsewhere. At times we hear the Artists when they drop new heat, but how many of these acts do we know? Today, the “Mobay King” MoulaUE a.k.a Moula Di Don debuts his “Conversations With MoulaUE” series. In part 1, he introduces himself to the world in “Meet The Artist“. Here he spoke on his background, his inspirations and favourite Artists, how he has developed his sound, thoughts on the Jamaican Hip Hop movement, performing in Jamaica and New York and breaking barriers, preparing for recording sessions, plans for 2016 and more including new music and other projects! Titled “Rankins” and directed by Kemstyle Studios and featuring T.M.O., the two Rappers kicked the flow up a notch and drop commanding lyrics over a hard hitting Mordecai Beats production that was blessed with a Shabba Ranks “Respect” sample. What do you get when you enlist Jamaican Rappers Five Steez, Nomad Carlos, The Sickest Drama with Inztinkz who boasts Production and Rapping skills? The super group called “The Council” of course! Since their debut single “Council Arts” in 2015, listeners have been eager to hear what these Artists can do over more production on a mixtape, EP, or album format. Though seasoned members in the “First Coast” movement, The Council aims to bring more listeners to where Hip Hop came from, and of course show them that they’re nice with the flow when they form like Voltron.
1. I just finished listening to soundcloud.com/proeraradio/jo… and heard that Joey Bada$$ was in the Island recently. Did any of you meet with him? That would certainly have been a “PRO” move by The Council.
Inztinkz: Nah I didn’t get the chance to meet him actually, I guess it was just a matter of our circles not crossing.
Five Steez: I didn’t meet Joey when he was here but I respect his work. I really liked his album, B4da$$.
Nomad Carlos: What’s good? Nah I wasn’t in JA when that went down. I probably wouldn’t have met with him anyway due to the circles of interest on his part.
TSD: Nah, we didn’t meet with him, but I’m aware of other First Coast affiliates who did, and I hope something positive comes out of it.
2. Pretend this is a phone call I made to acquire just the right amount of insight about the rap game from the only comrades who actually know the direction of authentic Jamaican emceeing. Fill me in on as much details as possible.
Inztinkz: Jamaican emceeing had always been in a weird place. Right now I think because of the diversity of influences in rap in general, Jamaican emceeing can’t be pinned down to one particular style per-se. Its really an amalgamation of the the Jamaican experience and all that influences it done via the medium of Hip Hop.
TSD: Jamaican Hip Hop is an underground phenomenon that’s bubbling in local scene waiting for the right avenues and spotlight to emerge. There are many rappers scattered across the island, although the fraternity seems more insular in remote parts of the country. There’s a diverse range in terms of influence and sound, but the common denominator is re arranging the yard experience through the prism of Hip Hop culture as its become to be known internationally. It’s a post-modern aesthetic.
