Marcia Griffiths’ “Electric Slide” Sampled On @IAmCardiB’s “Hot S***” Single!

US Recording Artist Cardi B returns to form with new music this week. Officially making way for a new album, Cardi called up the arsenal to get the ball rolling with the new single, “Hot Shit“. Produced by Tay Keith, the track features verses from fellow Artists Lil Durk, and Kanye West. A high energy track just in time for the Summer, a small of a Jamaican classic could be heard in the track.

For a brief moment, you could hear a sample of Marcia Griffiths’ 1989 hit, “Electric Slide” accompanying a line on “Hot Shit”. Originally called “Electric Boogie” which was recorded and produced by the late Bunny Wailer in 1976, and released in 1980 and 1989, “Electric Slide” lived a few lives over the years. While it was a minor hit for Wailer in the late 70s and 80s, Marcia Griffiths’ 1983 version of the record was released and became a minor hit as well. It wasn’t until 1989 when a remixed version that was featured on Griffiths’ “Carousel” album quickly made it a dance staple around the world. The new version gave birth to the “Electric Slide” dance, which became the official dance for cookouts, family gatherings, Weddings, and various celebrations and events over the years.

Expect a lot more from Cardi B this year, and fans can look forward to a new project from her. In the meantime, check out the content below, and share with a friend. Show us some love/follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Ding Dong Ft. @IAmQyor – Holiday (2009)

This past week marked the beginning of the 2022 Summer season. Many have been looking forward to relaxing, having fun, explore new territories, and meet new people, and we urge you all to be safe. Nothing says Summer in Jamaica like a party series, or a Summer song. For today’s Oldies Sunday selection, we look back at one of Dancehall’s greatest Summer songs, and it comes from Dancehall Artist/Dancer Ding Dong with the track, “Holiday“!

Produced by Wayne “Hunga” Thompson for Notice Productions and released in 2009, Ding Dong’s “Holiday” single features Recording Artist Chevaughn. On the track, the Artists celebrate taking a break from everything to have endless fun. Whether you were putting down the schoolbooks or escaping the 9 to 5, this was your time to call up friends, and find yourselves somewhere to release the stress. The upbeat single encouraged listeners to break out the dance moves, and the accompanying Road Block Films directed music video showed off colourful outfits, and scenes with friends kicking back and enjoying the Summer holidays.

Ding Dong and Chevaughn’s “Holiday” was a hit, becoming a top ten single in Jamaica, and gaining momentum around the world. The single received a great amount of airplay, and it is considered a classic Dancehall Summer song. Since the release of “Holiday”, Ding Dong has been enjoying a very lucrative music and dance career, and he is still active and on top of his game. Chevaughn scored a few hits for himself over the years, and has recently changed his stage name to Qyor. For those who are ready for the Summer, remember to put “Holiday” in your Playlists.

Everton Blender’s “Ghetto People Song” Sampled On @FrenchMontana’s “Montega” Album!

On Friday June 24, New York Rapper French Montana released his new album, “Montega“. The 12 track project would further solidify French’s place in Hip Hop, and he brought along new hits and collaborations. While fans would be excited about the new project, a familiar sound was heard on “Higher“, the 6th track on the album.

On the opening of “Higher”, Everton Blender’s 1994 single, “Ghetto People Song” would receive the sample treatment. Produced by Tony Rebel on the “Lala Bella Riddim“, “Ghetto People Song” would become a massive hit for Everton Blender, earning the classic status over the years. “Ghetto People Song” was featured on Blender’s 1999 album, “Rootsman Credential“, and was previously sampled by Rapper Canibus in 2018 for a track of the same name. “Higher” was produced by Harry Fraud, along with the rest of the “Montega” album.

This would not be the first time French Montana dabbled in Jamaican music. Chaka Demus and Pliers’Murder She Wrote” would be sampled on the Nicki Minaj featured single, “Freaks” (Lil Vicious’ Dancehall track of the same name would be sampled as well), Dancehall Artist Mavado would collaborate with French on two tracks (“F**k What Happens Tonight” and “Ghetto Prayer“), Alkaline’sFormula” single would get remixed for the “Jungle Rules” album in 2017, French worked with Dancehall Producers Rvssian and Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, and most recently would hop of the remix of Skillibeng’sWhap Whap” with Fivio Foreign.

Ishawna x Ed Sheeran "Brace It" on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #UK #IShawna #EdSheeran #Music #13thStreetPromotions #BraceIt #Caribbean

.@Ishawna & @EdSheeran Get To “Brace It” On Official Collaboration!

This one has been in talks for quite some time. Ever since Dancehall Artist Ishawna hijacked Recording Artist Ed Sheeran’sShape Of You” for her “Equal Rights” single in 2017, we were on the lookout for a co-sign and possible collaboration between the two. It took a while, but Ed Sheeran acknowledged Ishawna’s track during a Radio Interview, and shared that he reached out to the Dancehall Artist. After all that time, we finally get a collaboration, and it’s called, “Brace It“!

Produced by Skatta Burrell, Ishawna, and Don Corleon/Don Corleonie, “Brace It” mixes Pop and Dancehall from two different Artists from two very different worlds. It’s like the Jamaican girl bringing her white boyfriend to the Island to get familiar with the music, but in song form. Ed Sheeran is encouraged by Ishawna to “wine pon mi good up“, and the two have fun on the track. Pretty interesting to hear Ed speak a lil Patois (“I nah go diss yuh never”), but overall we expect this track to make its rounds.

What do you think of “Brace It”? Check out the track below, and share with a friend. Show us some love/follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.

OLDIES SUNDAY: David Isaacs – Good Father (1969)

Today around the world, Fathers, Dads, Pops, Papas, Papis, StepFathersUncles, Grandpas, and big Brothers are being celebrated on Father’s Day. While not many see today as a negative one, we celebrate the real Fathers who do everything to have a great presence in the life of their child/children. Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Recording Artist David Isaacs with the track, “Good Father“.

Produced by Lee “Scratch” Perry and released through the Upsetters Label in 1969, David Isaacs shares some of the things a good Father does. David shares his signature vocals throughout with the help of backup Singers, and Lee “Scratch” Perry’s thumping production compliments the song well. Not many songs have been released celebrating Fathers over the years, but appreciation is shown for those that made it to the mainstream.

For those who have been called Deadbeat Fathers, Absent Fathers, “Sperm Donors”, and the like, you need to wise up! There are so many who wish to have their Fathers present but are unable due to tragedies and other reasons, but you chose to abandon those who really need you. There are even some of you who take on the Stepfather role to someone else’s kids while you ignore yours. We could’ve had a lot more songs for Dad had you lot done what you’re supposed to do. If you were called any of the above names, DO BETTER!

thank you David Isaacs for this track! Happy Father’s Day!
