One An’ Ready! Top Banks & XKappe Release “Taxi Man”

When it comes to traveling in Jamaica, you can take public transportation, or get something private. Most residents go for public transportation in the form of taxis and buses for various reasons, and the atmosphere there is enough for many comedy and drama productions. From hilarious interactions, to hearing colourful language, the life of a public transport operator is one filled with hustle and determination. If you haven’t been driven by a Jamaican Taxi Man, Dancehall Artists Top Banks and XKappe give you an idea in, “Taxi Man“.

Released through Steel Chest Records/Bigz Milli Records/White Life Records, Top Banks and XKappe take over Jidenna’s “Classic Man” Instrumental to share the day to day runnings of a “Taxi Man”. The everyday hustle to get passengers is no easy feat, but when done right, it is rewarding to earn that honest bread. This isn’t without any funny moments and drama, and the Deejays deliver a track that takes our minds off of the daily stress. Banks and XKappe always make for a great collaboration, and “Taxi Man” is bound to be another favourite. The Mandeville-based Artists continue to expand their bases, with Banks looking to take his talents to Canada this month for a number of events. XKappe is still doing numbers with his releases, and his live performances continue to find fans reciting every line. Make space in the vehicle for this one, wi ready fi di road!

2017 Faves: @JeebyLyricist – Mobaby (#3)

As 2017 comes to a close, we look back at a few songs that were favourites on the Blog for the year. While we can’t name EVERY one, we’ll give you 5 (in no particular order so hold off on the ego) to reminisce on, or get familiar with.

Taking the 3rd spot today is Jeeby Lyricist with “Mobaby“! Inspired by Recording Artist Jidenna’s “Bambi“, Jeeby teamed up with Producer The Kash (who remade the Instrumental) in May/June to speak on the ills that affect his hometown of Montego Bay, St. James. He even speaks on them through the role of a Scammer. Many come to Jamaica thinking it’s all white sandy beaches, continuous partying, and chill vibes. Just like the rest of the World however, there are issues like crime and violence, corruption, and poverty. A song with a message. If you missed our 4th pick, check it out here. Jamaica, Land We Love. Many outsiders know of the Resorts, the Beaches, living the “Island Life“, but there’s another side to our beautiful Island that is at times exposed. Following the death of a close friend, Recording Artist and Montego Bay, St. James resident Jeeby Lyricist released the visuals for “Mobaby“. Featuring Miss Jamaica Universe 2016 Isabel Dalley, and various clips highlighting Montego Bay in recent times, the visual sheds a light on both the beautiful and ugly sides of this location as it’s a haven for Tourists and great Businesses, but a place where Crime has been a huge thorn in its side. Delivered over a beat remake of Jidenna’s “Bambi” from The Kash, this has been a favourite of ours for the month and the song can be seen on the same level as Protoje’s “BLXXD MONEY”. Would be dope to get more verses from Artists representing other locations (Artists where are you?). R.I.P. Jayson Barnes and all the fallen Mobabies. Watch the video below.

@Jidenna Travels To JamRock For “Little Bit More”!

The “Classic Man“ Jidenna takes it to the Islands for his brand new video for “Little Bit More“. Directed by Justin Francis with assistance from Fear & Fancy, this was shot in Jamaica and features Media Personality Amita Webb. The video captures a little bit of Island life, showcases some fancy dance moves from Jidenna and company, and of course a lil Island love shown between Amita and Jidenna. With the track’s mix of Caribbean and Afro Beat influences, it was only right it was shot here and the single is a hit! Look out for more from Jidenna later this year but for now, check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
