Before the month is over, we want to show respect to an Architect in Jamaican Music. a Man who created a wave in the early years of Ska Music, and made his name prominent in other genres, that soon made him an inspiration, and Icon. His name is Byron Lee, and if there was a “National Heroes Of Jamaican Music” category, he would’ve been on the list. The late Musician/Producer/Entrepreneur took the music to new territories, and has received numerous accolades for his accomplishments. His Dynamics Sounds Studio was one of the best in the Caribbean, he produced classics in multiple genres, and he gave us “Jamaica Carnival“, popularizing Soca Music in Jamaica, making it accessible for everyone. His band, The Dragonaires, became the standard for many bands in the Caribbean, and have been in movies, on the Radio, and at an event near you. Byron Lee has done so much for Jamaican Music, but today we’re highlighting some of the music that sampled the work of Mr. Lee in our latest Playlist.

While the list is not long, we invite you to tune in to some of the hits that Byron Lee produced over the years, and some of the tracks that used his sound to make their own hits. From Ska, to Dancehall, to Hip Hop, Lee’s DNA could be found in some of your faves. Those who are not familiar, can use this Playlist as a start into discovering more from the late Icon. Jamaican-born/Florida-based Producer/Musician/Recording Artist Kris-Karz has been on the scene for a number of years, and when he’s not producing for the likes of Kapital Stone, Royal Blu, Blvk H3ro, Dylan Golden, and Lola Jaan, he’s putting together his own music to speak about love, relationships, and life overall. He has gained recognition in Jamaica, throughout parts of the United States, and other parts of the world, but recently his profile expanded to new territories thanks to his recent placement with popular American Magazine, Architectural Digest.

Architectural Digest expanded their platform to host a number of video-based content on Youtube in recent years, where they feature property, Interior Design, and landscaping from celebrities, and other big names. For their latest entry in their “Open Door” series, they highlighted property from Miami Heat superstar, Jimmy Butler. The 14 minute clip showcased the NBA star’s Southern California Mansion with designs from popular Interior Decorator Tiffany Brooks, and featured music from Kris-Karz’s “Portraits” project. “Portraits” was a project that was announced in 2021 but not fully released, and included the singles “LUST”, “LOVE”, and “ENERGY”. The Instrumental for the tracks “LOVE” and “ENERGY” were featured in the closing of the video, along with other production from Karz that were played in various parts.

“This is truly a blessing for me,” shared Kris-Karz. “I have been making music for well over 15 years, and this placement is a huge accomplishment for me. Sometimes you don’t know who will connect with your music, and to know that the Architectural Digest team loved it enough to include it in their content, i’m truly grateful for the opportunity. Kris-Karz, born Kris-Anthony Smith in Manchester, Jamaica, is the founder of Kngly Studios, and its main Producer and Recording Artist. He is also the mind behind the Youtube Acoustic series, “Kngly Live”, which provided a platform for Recording Artists and Musicians from South Florida and surrounding areas to showcase their talent. He has produced for a number of local and overseas-based Artists, and has performed at a number of events in Miami, Atlanta, and northern parts of America. As a Recording Artist, he has released singles such as, “LUST”, “Heartbreak”, “Text Me”, “GUSH”, and more recently “Safe With Me”. He is currently finalizing a number of releases to close off 2024, and kick off 2025.

In a time where there are external and internal wars going on around the world, it takes some great people to step forward and lead the people into the light. Many have taken the stance, including Manchester-based Recording Artist/Producer Abka Kaba. He wishes for the world to be a better place, but it takes something powerful to make it happen. He contributes to that with, “Behold“.

Released through Roots N Creations Records on the previously-released “360 Riddim”, Abka Kaba utilizes his platform to promote change in “Behold”. Over some solid production, he calls for peace, love, and unity in this world that is filled with conflict. The time has come for the real ones to stand up, and make a stop to the madness out there. Extending his creativity, Abka released a Music Video for the single. Along with his Kahinga Films company, he taps into the power of A.I. to bring forth a Music Video that finds a character calling that positive change to happen, and unite the people through music. Abka cannot campaign for change alone, and he encourages everyone to do their part. We just want a life that’s good. Here’s to better days.

You may have heard of Mandeville-based Comedian/Recording Artist Vicee Henry, if you’re not sure, you have seen a few of his TikTok videos where he reports his own version of News stories along with music. If you still aren’t familiar, don’t worry, you will shortly as we share his new single, “Choppa Holiday“.

Produced by Steel Chest for OuttaSpace Records on the “Dubai Riddim” (which also features music from Xkappe and Prince Guava), Vicee Henry gets into some festivities on “Choppa Holiday”. When it comes to securing the bag, it’s time for the bottle popping, the jewelry flashing, and living life in an extra way. Vicee provides a catchy hook for a tune that promises to gain some great attention in the coming week. The “Dubai Riddim” has been making noise throughout the year, and Vicee’s new track looks to give it more life, and include a few more prominent names for future releases. A video for “Choppa Holiday” is in the works, so fans of the tune can stay tuned. It’s a celebration.

It’s that time of year when the yutes are gearing up for their return to the classroom. Many have been prepared with essentials since the early part of Summer, but what about those who haven’t checked off anything off of their lists? Thanks to a number of organizations, celebrities/public figures, and businesspersons, parents have been breathing a sigh of relief through back to school events all over Jamaica. Recording Artist Lila Ike is one of those public figures who always gave back to her community of Christiana in Manchester, and this year was no different with the second staging of her “Back To School Treat” with her “Blessings And Light Foundation“.

Sponsored by a number of corporations including Clarks Shoes, Butterkist, Seprod, Megamart, Mother’s, and fellow Artists and businesspersons, Lila Ike ensured that the kids would go back to school with a few essentials at her Back To School Treat. Held at the Christiana Bus Park on Sunday Sept. 1, attendees were treated to rides, free food, supplies for those still affected by Hurricane Beryl, and school supplies. Lila made it her mission to give back to her community, and has never looked back. The day closed off in a major way thanks to a free concert that featured performances by Ike along with Protoje, Romain Virgo, Jah Lil, Jahshii, and a number of Artists from within the community. Dancehall Artist Jquan is far from regular, and he won’t stop reminding you. The Deejay has been ascending to new levels over the past few months thanks to a number of singles, and he won’t until he gains the type of success that fits him best. In his pursuit, he shares his thoughts and ambitions in the video for the single, “Choppa Salvation“.

Directed by 9 Mile Visualz, Jquan aims for the best in everything in, “Choppa Salvation”. To acquire the level of success that will have him in positions of power will take a lot of work, and he’s not settling for anything less in his mission. Over the DJ Mac/Crash Dummy-produced track, he is his own boss, don, and motivation to get the Billions, and his focus is fully secured.
