OLDIES SUNDAY: Dennis Brown – Inseparable (1987)

It’s Wedding SZN! For the month of June, Oldies Sunday will feature some love songs that can be a great addition to your Wedding Playlists, and could be the official song to dance to. Today we close off the month by looking back at the late Dennis Brown’s 1987 track, “Inseparable“! Produced by Willie Lindo, this was through the UK J&W Records. The song features Dennis Brown professing his love for his significant other, celebrating how much his search for love is no more, how much she means to him, and just how they click together. A song that’s perfect for the Wedding reception, it’s one of Dennis Brown’s most popular love songs. The track was featured on his 1987 album of the same name.

Dennis Brown started out as a child star, and thanks to the many hits over the years, he became the “Crown Prince of Reggae“! July 1 will mark 20 years since he left this earth as a result of a heart attack and a collapsed lung, but he continues to live and inspire many through the music.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Browne Bunch/Brownie Bunch – Blue Skies (1991)

It’s Wedding SZN! For the month of June, Oldies Sunday will feature some love songs that can be a great addition to your Wedding Playlists, and could be the official song to dance to. Today we look back at the 5 Brother group Browne Bunch (a.k.a. Brownie) and their single, “Blue Skies“! With them all handling production and released through the Island Treasure label in 1991, the brothers Danny, Glen, Cleveland, Dalton, and Noel delivered a dedication to that special someone, and letting them know that they are their life’s purpose. To have someone who knows every side of you, and to help you become a better person is truly a blessing, don’t take it for granted.

Starting out as a teen sibling music group in the 70’s like The Jackson 5 and The Sylvers, they had a short stint before disbanding later in the decade. Their paths in music after, though broad, always lead them back together. They’ve made attempts to regroup in 1983 and 2015, but scheduling conflicts have put a damper on things. Danny Browne went on to become a legendary Producer, founder of the Bloodfire Posse group and Mainstreet Records, and recently had his work sampled by the likes of Nicki Minaj (more on that here). Glen Browne has worked with Jimmy Cliff, Ziggy Marley, and Tarrus Riley and has become a legendary Bass Player. Cleveland Browne went on to become a legend himself as the other half of the production duo, “Steely & Clevie“, with an outstanding track record in Jamaican music. Noel Browne took his talents as a Keyboard Player to the UK, and has worked with many inlcuding the late Dennis Brown, Glen Washington, and Papa San. Dalton Browne has been the go to Guitarist for many, and has worked with Freddie McGregor as his Musical Director, and even worked with Akon on his album, “Konvicted”.

It’s Wedding SZN! For the month of June, Oldies Sunday will feature some love songs that can be a great addition to your Wedding Playlists, and could be the official song to dance to. Today we go way back with Alaine Laughton with her single, “Heavenly“! Produced by Donovan Bennett a.k.a. “Don Corleonie“ on the “Heavenly Riddim“, this was released in 2006 through Don Corleon Records, and finds Alaine making a dedication to the love of her life. With lyrics about how strong their love is, completing each other, what loving each other is like, and “finding Heaven on Earth“, Alaine gave us a beautifully performed song that’s perfect for the couples. The single was also featured on her amazing 2007 debut album, “Sacrifice“, and remains one of her more popular tracks.

Since the song’s release, Alaine went on to release more hits, performing across the world, and guiding talent on “Digicel Rising Stars” as a Judge. OLDIES SUNDAY: Ruddy Thomas – Key To The World (1982)

It’s Wedding SZN! For the month of June, Oldies Sunday will feature some love songs that can be a great addition to your Wedding Playlists, and could be the official song to dance to. Today we go back to the year 1982 with the late Ruddy Thomas’ “Key To The World“! Produced by Roy Forbes Allen with arrangement by Franklin “Bubbler Waul” and released through the Hawkeye Label, this was a cover of The Dramatics member L.J. Reynolds’ 1981 single. Here, Ruddy Thomas gives us soulful lyrics letting the lady in his life know that if he had the world, she’d never be in need, and he’ll provide in a way a man’s supposed to. This version showcased Ruddy’s vocals in a way that was sure to bring a tingle to all the ladies who heard it.

With a few hits under his belt, Ruddy Thomas lent his vocals to the likes of Peter Tosh, and was a Recording Engineer for projects by Sugar Minott, Leroy Smart, Yellowman, and Beres Hammond. Ruddy Thomas passed away in 2006 as a result of a Heart Attack during a performance in Jamaica. His music remains timeless, and still are being played all around the world.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Little Harry – Party Time (1982)

Closing off the month of May being “Child’s Month“, Oldies Sunday features a child star who made some noise in music. Heading back to the 1980s, we look at Teen Deejay Little Harry’s 1982 track, “Party Time“! This was featured on the Yellowman and Fathead’s “Live At Aces: Feeding In The Dancehall” project which was produced by Lloyd Campbell. While he made his rounds in the 80s as a Teen star in the Dancehall, “Party Time” marks Little Harry’s first appearance ever on a record. With the mic in his hand, Harry commanded the crowd with this one as he fired off lyrics about being the ladies man, city life and country life, and of course showing off his skills as a formidable MC.

Born in St. Thomas, Little Harry started off his Deejay career at the age of 10. Since his debut, he has worked with the likes of King Jammy’s, King Yellowman, Billy Boyo, and Skengdon which helped his presence in Dancehall.

OLDIES SUNDAY: White Mice – True Love (1987)

In recognition of May being “Child’s Month“, Oldies Sunday will be highlighting a few child stars who made some noise in music. Today we go back to the 80’s with Teenage Recording Artist White Mice with his single, “True Love“! Produced by Junior Delgado on the Far East Riddim and released through Incredible Music in 1987, White Mice shares his testimony that Jah always comes through for him, and blesses him. The single was later featured on Mice’s debut album of the same name.

White Mice started his career in his birth Parish of St. James, but moved to Kingston for better opportunities. He was a member of the late Sugar Minott’s “Youthman Promotions” camp, and with the help of his Brother Courtney Crichton, he found success with “True Love“. Since the song’s release, he has went on to release more music, and made the move to Europe to further his ambitions as he became a Sound System owner there.
