OLDIES SUNDAY: The Mighty Clouds – Syne Dub (1975)

It’s the final “Oldies Sunday” post of 2024! Firstly, thanks for the support of this segment, and we look forward to producing more come 2025. With New Year’s Day around the corner, we see it fit give you something in recognition of the upcoming day. We go back to nearly 50 years ago with The Mighty Clouds Band’s “Syne Dub“.

Released through the Mid-Night and Black Ark Sound labels in 1975, “Syne Dub” was an Instrumental release for The Mighty Clouds Band. The track was a dub version of the popular “Auld Lang Syne” New Year’s Day song, and the b-side to Reggae Singer Leon Hyatt’s song of the same name. The mix of Percussion, Horns, Keys, and Bass come together well, and will put all the listeners in a dancing vibe throughout. Sometimes all you need is the Riddim to get you going.

OLDIES SUNDAY (Christmas): Fab 5 – Christmas Breeze A Blow

Have you been feeling the Christmas spirit? If you haven’t, you have been feeling the change the temperatures though. With Christmas Day in a couple days, we give you another “Oldies Sunday” selection to enjoy till then. We go back in time to check out the legendary Fab 5 Band, and their track, “Christmas Breeze A Blow“.

The self-produced track was featured on the “A Jamaican Christmas Gift” album, and it finds Fab 5 celebrating the start of the Christmas season. They share some of the many features of the season in Jamaica especially the “Christmas Breeze” and the birth of Jesus, and they boast about Jamaica’s absence of snow. It’s a merry time, and money or no money, everyone is having fun during the holidays. “Christmas Breeze A Blow” is one of Fab 5’s top Christmas songs, and has been included in many holiday Playlists. Some will say it’s not Christmas if there isn’t a Fab 5 song playing. We wish you all a Merry Christmas when it comes, may the day be one filled with good times with those you love. It’s a bonununous Christmas!

Charly Black Promoted Unity With Star-Studded “One Chance” Festival In Manchester

On Saturday December 14, the Parish of Manchester was treated to a night of great performances thanks to the first staging of the “One Chance” Music Festival. Hosted by Dancehall Artist Charly Black, DJ Marvin, and Unstoppable Entertainment and held at the parking lot of Toast Restaurant & Gelato, the “One Chance” Music Festival was made to promote unity in Jamaican music and society, bring together a number of established and rising stars, and bring more specialized entertainment events in Manchester. Despite the late start for performances, patrons were treated to the selections from the likes of Bass Odyssey, DJ Sherlock, and ZJ Liquid, and those who needed something extra could grab a soup, boxed food, and a beverage of their choice nearby.

When it was time for the performances, the early segment gave way to a number of Mandeville-based Reggae/Dancehall Artists on the rise who displayed some of their best work. It was then followed by performances by the Tower Band who provided musical backing for Charly Black, who soon after brought on stage Yaksta, Yaadcore, Neeqah, Denyque, and X-Kappe, who brought along a number of his Artists. The first staging of the “One Chance” Music Festival showed that Music Festival deserves to be held in the Parish, and we look forward to a bigger, better event in 2025.

Malii Alli Reflects On The “Good Ol’ Days”

Life is full of experiences, and some tend to become memories that hold special places in our hearts. Recording Artist Malii Alli holds some memories close, and at times she yearns to return to those moments. She shares her thoughts on that in the video for, “Good Ol’ Days“.

Directed by LCRJ Media, Malii Alli reflects on times long gone in, “Good Ol’ Days”. Taking it to the beach and river, she looks back at some times when life was a little better, the love was stronger, and happiness was present. Today isn’t the best, but she believes the days will get better, even though they won’t be like the yesteryears. She can be found singing by the river, and even interacting with a few people at the beach, bringing a positive energy throughout. “Good Ol’ Days” was produced by WhiteBlackzMusic, and was released in 2023. Alli has been active in music for a while, and has been making progress with a number of releases. Get familiar with her, and stay tuned for what she has next for 2025. Sometimes, it’s just the memories that we have.
