Sizzla Takes Us “On A High” On New Album

When you have a work ethic like Reggae Icon Sizzla Kalonji, best believe there will be a lot of new music to enjoy. While he has been busy in everything from producing, to Community Development, to Humanitarian work, a lot is done in those 24 hours. Nonetheless, Sizzla has get into Artist mode and give us a new album called, “On A High“.

Featuring 12 tracks, “On A High” is the follow up to the 2020 album, “Million Times“. Sizzla continues to give listeners a selection of love songs, conscious music, and a bit of Social Commentary. Chiney K Productions, Vision House Music, G MAC, In Da Mix, Great Black Minds Studio, Robert Murphy, and Kalonji Music Productions round out the producers featured on the album, while Recording Artists Gingerbread Mane and Mink Jo are the guest features on there. No matter what’s going on in the world, there’s always time to listen to some Sizzla.

Tappa Zukie's M.P.L.A. album that features the single, "Freedom" on 13thStreetPromotions.com

OLDIES SUNDAY: Tappa Zukie – Freedom (1976)

Break the chains and kick down the gates, it’s Emancipation Sunday on Oldies Sunday! Parts of the Caribbean recognize August 1 (and August 2 on weekdays if the 1st is on a weekend) as Emancipation Day. It’s a day that commemorates the abolition of slavery, but we’re still fighting against many other forms of depression around the world. Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from the great Tappa Zukie with his track, “Freedom“.

Produced by Tappa Zukie and released through the KLIK Label in 1976. “Freedom” finds Tappa Zukie calling for the liberation of black people who have been held captive for centuries. He flexes a mix of singing and toasting inna dub style on the track, and he can be heard saying “freedom a wha di natty dread want…” throughout. The song came around the time when black consciousness was at an all time high, and it makes its mark an important song of the times, with messages that are still relevant today. “Freedom” was included on Zukie’s 1976 album, “MPLA“. As we recognize an important day, may we still fight to break the new chains of oppression.

Over the weekend, we highlighted Brooklyn based Reggae Artist Elijah Rocq’s latest single, “Tell Me What You Want“. A song that we believe will become a favourite for many in the coming weeks, Elijah Rocq speaks love to the ladies who are in need of it. Following up the single, is the music video, and we have it here today!

Directed by RedEye Media Production, Elijah Rocq shows that he isn’t full of hot air, and he will do what is necessary to take care of his woman. When he’s not taking care of his lady through picnics and romantic dinners, he can be found at the top of a building putting his all into the song. Now that we’ve heard “Tell Me What You Want” some more, maybe it should find itself in a soundtrack for a Romantic Comedy. Get familiar with Elijah Rocq!

Born Elijah Dixon in Brooklyn, New York and raised in St. Ann, Jamaica, Elijah Rocq knew from a young age that he wanted to sing. Life as a singer found him working in Hotels, at Weddings, and anywhere that had a space, and the years followed found him joining various singing groups like Access, Two Souls, the Black Male Band, and Live Wyya. Bugle Uplifts & Inspires On “My Life”

Iconic Reggae/Dancehall Artist Bugle has been one of the go to figures when it comes to positivity, consciousness, and motivation through his music. With well over a decade in, he has released solid projects, and singles that have caused a drastic shift in music. With his name highly favoured in various circles, Bugle is still trodding the path to give the world nothing but good music. It becomes further evident with his recently released single, “My Life”.

Released on July 2 through the Sweet Music Label on the “Bitcoin Riddim”, Bugle’s “My Life” has quickly gained a strong following since. With lyrics that reflect on his struggles and upbringing, Bugle is aware of how far he has come, and while he doesn’t aspire for riches, he wants the listener to go for what is theirs, and strive for a life that’s better than their struggles. Bugle effortlessly delivers on the track, and still possesses a commanding presence anytime he speaks. Since the release of “My Life”, it has quickly gained thousands of streams across all popular digital music streaming platforms. Bugle has received praise from his musical peers on his powerful lyricism, including ZJ Liquid who has given it a stamp of approval as it became a regular fixture in his DJ sets. Jah Patriot Finds His Inner Strength On “Keep The Faith”

US based Reggae Recording Artist Jah Patriot is known as the “unseen fire” as he blesses the world with quality music filled with scorching lyrics. A man who has never let even his disabilities stop his progress, Jah Patriot’s music has uplifted many, and has inspired people to believe that anything is possible. He emphasizes that on his new single, “Keep The Faith”.

Produced and released by Reggae Capital, Jah Patriot starts off strong with the help of backup singers. On the track he shared that even though he has had many experiences good and bad in his life, he has never lost sight of his inner strength, and continues his mission to do good. With Jah as his guide, he knows he’s on the right path, and he will fulfill his destiny. “Keep The Faith” serves as a song to motivate listeners who are going through hard and confusing times, and ensures them that better is on the way. The single was released on July 16, and has been doing well on various streaming platforms. In support of the “Keep The Faith”, a music video is said to be in the works for release in the coming weeks.

With over 30 years in music, Jah Patriot has adapted to the times, and left his mark in different eras. His music covers social commentary, love, consciousness, and faith, and he has gained the respect of many prominent names in music. Blind since the age of 18, he didn’t let his disability stop his creativity, and he shows that in not only his recordings but through his performances that have left unforgettable impressions.
