The @iFlyCaribbean Invaders Steel Orchestra Will Debut At Jamaica Carnival 2017!

On Sunday April 23rd, Caribbean Airlines Invaders Steel Orchestra will make its debut at the Jamaica Carnival as part of the Bacchanal Carnival Band.
“Caribbean Airlines is all about connecting people and Carnival is an integral part of who we are as a region. From the moment you board a Caribbean Airlines flight, the festivity and authentic Caribbean experience begins.  We are delighted to share the sounds of one of Trinidad and Tobago’s oldest steel bands, Caribbean Airlines Invaders Steel Orchestra*, with the people of Jamaica,” stated Alicia Cabrera, Senior Marketing Manager, Caribbean Airlines.
As part of the visit to Kingston, Caribbean Airlines Invaders Steel Orchestra will welcome arriving passengers on Saturday, April 22 at Norman Manley International Airport. “We are looking forward to giving Kingston a special musical treat, when we entertain passengers on their arrival at Norman Manley International on Saturday. We are also excited to appear on the road as part of the parade on Sunday, and showcase the infectious sound of Steel Pan, with the Revellers” said Michael Dinchong, Managing Director of Caribbean Airlines Invaders Steel Orchestra.
In addition to featuring Steel Pan at the Kingston Carnival, Caribbean Airlines also supported Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism “Carnival in Jamaica” initiative with marketing promotions in Fort Lauderdale and New York. The Airline’s “Jamaica Wanna Jam” events on Hollywood Beach, Fort Lauderdale and at Green Acres Mall, New York attracted hundreds of prospective travellers and four lucky winners, won trips to Jamaica to experience carnival. The Jamaica Tourist Board and the Jamaica Hotel and Tourism Association partnered with the airline for the promotion.
Caribbean Airlines offers daily flights from Trinidad and Tobago, New York, Miami and Fort Lauderdale to Kingston, Jamaica. There is also daily service between Fort Lauderdale and Montego Bay and three flights per week between Toronto and Kingston.

Yes you heard me right, we have a full fledged Jamaican Soca Artist! While we’ve had Dancehall/Soca/Calypso collaborations over the years by the likes of Beenie Man,  Konshens, Spice, and of course you all know of the late Legend Byron Lee and his Dragonaires, and the timeless Fab 5 Band, this Artist has taken his talents and determination and became the first to make it to the International Soca Monarch finals! His name is…Linky First!

Born Jason Henriques, Linky First has been blowing up the airwaves in Trinidad & Tobago and the rest of the Caribbean with his hit single, “Rock & Come In” on the Ruffin produced “Liming Riddim” since its release last year. He has since followed up with “Control It”, “X6”, “Doctor”, and “Naked Pon The Road”.

It’s a Caribbean connection when Trinidad’s Soca King Machel Montano teams up with Jamaica’s Diamond selling Dancehall Artist Charly Black and top Producer Troyton Hinds for “VIP Girl”! Bringing two musical giants in their respective genres together was something the Billboard Producer Troyton envisioned for a long time. The single was recently released under the Troyton Music label, and distributed by 21st Hapilos.
When asked about making the collaboration a possibility, Troyton recalls being invited to Trinidad along with Charly for a staging of “Machel Mondays” in February of 2016. During their rehearsals, the trio had a conversation about music and their successes in Dancehall and Soca when Troyton suggested Charly and Machel team up for a song. With approval from both sides, Troyton quickly worked on a Riddim after his arrival back to Jamaica. Soon after, Troyton reached out to Charly for his verses which were recorded in Jamaica, then reached out to Machel who worked on his in Trinidad.
Since its release earlier this month, the single has been constantly requested from DJs and fans alike both locally and Internationally. A music video is in the works with directorial duties being handled by Damion Gayle of Warrior Films with Trinidad and Jamaica being the locations chosen. When asked what makes a “VIP Girl”, Troyton replied, “A woman who possesses class, intelligence, and the right amount of sexiness!”.
“VIP Girl” is now available on iTunes.

Today on Oldies Sunday, we look back at the Calypso Legend, Calypso Rose’s “Come Leh We Jam“. Arranged/Produced by Pelham Goddard and Charlie’s Roots, this single was released in 1977 by CLO Records. The single was a part of her “Her Majesty: Calypso Rose” album which was released the same year, and was entered in the 1978 Trinidad Road March Competition. With her signature delivery, she speaks on the Soca music putting her in a wonderful place and prompting her to dance through it all. She also encourages unity in the dance with lyrics like “So leh we jam, jam, jam…“, “Jam together, Jam one another…“.

For those who aren’t familiar, Va$htie is an American DJ/Designer/Blogger/Director who is of Trinidadian descent. For those who are familiar with her, you may have seen a few of her videos, worn her Sneakers (She designed a special Air Jordan II and has a line with Puma), or raved to her DJing at a party. Tonight, after a heads up on her Snapchat recently, she released her Island-flavoured “West Indian Summer” Mixtape. Featuring over an hour of Dancehall, Reggae, Salsa, Reggaeton, Bachata, Merengue and Soca, Va$htie pays homage to the sounds that raised her. Featuring selections from Johnny Osbourne, Protoje, Machel Montano, Romeo Santos, Buju Banton, Celia Cruz, Daddy Yankee and many more!
