Reggae Artist Mortimer is gearing up to make the rest of 2024 an amazing time. With a solid catalogue, his music is just getting better as he delves into an artistry that makes him a standout. Recently, he announced the new album, “From Within“, and it promises to be his best release yet. Ahead of the album’s release, he released a number of singles, and now follows up with “Bruises“.

Co-Produced with Winta James for Overstand Entertainment, Mortimer enlists Kabaka Pyramid and Lila Ike to tackle serious issues on “Bruises”. The track speaks on the pain and suffering endured by Black people, the trauma that has been passed down through generations, and calls out those who try to justify the pain that was dished out. The three Artists share their unique voices and verses over some solid production, making the track one that will open door to more discussions about giving the victims their just due. September 20 looks to be a big day, and the anticipation for “From Within” has been growing. New music from a future legend.

There’s a party going on somewhere, and best believe some Dancehall Music is playing. UK Rapper Chip looks to add to the vibes bring the Dancehall vibes to his people. Just in time for the Notting Hill Carnival, he shares the video for the single, “Gyalis Pree“.

Directed by Chip and BDot, Chip has his focus on the Women, the liquor, and some good times all around in the video for, “Gyalis Pree”. One of the latest acts to tackle DJ Frass’ “Party Bus Riddim“, Chip is here for a nice time, and you’re encouraged to get the Casamigos and the Dragon Stouts, get the ladies in the mood, and have everyone to party with you. Chip looks to secure another hit, and the “Party Bus Riddim” has been making noise since its release of singles from the compilation. Party caan done, keep the vibes flowing!

OLDIES SUNDAY: Roy Shirley – Hold Them (1967)

As the Summer season winds down in its final few weeks, we wanted to keep listeners grooving until the end, and we hope to accomplish that with our “Oldies Sunday” selection. Today, we go back to the 1960s with Roy Shirley’s “Hold Them“.

Produced by Joe Gibbs and Lee “Scratch” Perry for his then Amalgamated Records and released in 1967, Roy Shirley was having a party in “Hold Them”. Considered the first Rocksteady single, “Hold Them” was made to get the people moving, and make anywhere a dance floor. Backed by energetic production, the track quickly became a hit locally and Internationally, and topping the music charts for 6 months in Jamaica, but it almost never happened. During the recording stages, Shirley tried to record the song in Ska style, but it wasn’t clicking. He tried to record it with Slim Smith (a friend and bandmate in the group “The Uniques“) and Ken Boothe, but during the failure of that route he was suggested to do it by himself in his own style by Musician/Singer Gladstone “Gladdy” Anderson. The song was rejected by a number of Producers at first, but recording it with Joe Gibbs was a move in a positive direction, and the rest was history.

Since the release of “Hold Them”, Roy Shirley went on to release more music, and perform in various parts of the world. Shirley passed away in 2008, leaving behind a legacy that connects with many today. “Hold Them” remains one of his biggest songs.

Produced by Felva, Ding Dong and Kraff are living it up in the fast lane in, “Benz Key”. From flashy cars to getting money, the Deejays are all about living the life of luxury, and we get a fun collaboration here. The Romaine Visuals-directed Music Video finds the duo enjoying life on top of high rise buildings surrounded by friends, Women, and Security Personnel. A fun visual from the two Artists, and maybe this is the start of more collaborations in the future. A Buduchop x Ravers connection.

Bakersteez Releases “MOB TIES” Under New Name, “St.Lazarus”

Rapper Bakersteez is going through some changes. Earlier this year, he had an online spat which resulted in a number of bizarre Social Media posts, and the public being concerned about his Mental Health. With the Summer nearing its end, Steez returns to the scene with new music, and a new name. Get familiar with St.Lazarus, and his new track, “MOB TIES“.

Whether you want to call him Bakersteez or St.Lazarus, “MOB TIES” finds the Rapper becoming more aware of the people around him. In a time when people can be deceptive and are quick to betray loved ones for material gain, Steez requires some action to go along with the words and promises people say to him. He speaks on people wanting to take his life, negative conversations being shared about him and his character, and he’s being more cautious. He’d rather do bad all by himself than to surround himself with fake people, and you can’t be mad at that. Here’s to St.Lazarus becoming more consistent with the music for the rest of the year, and let’s see what the future holds for him. Be careful out there.
