Dancehall Artist Govana continues to stay consistent with the content, and his track record is one to respect. “Govi Govi” has definitely improved since his “Deablo” days, and since the release of his “Humans And Monsters Are Not The Same” album, the output has significantly increased. Known for his “gyallis” songs, he unleashed the new single called, “BFF“.

Produced by Dunw3ll on the “Play Station Riddim“, Govana gives us another saga in his journey of being a ladies man. The standout this time around, is the single’s Visualizer, which was created by Jamaican Digital Artist, KxrlyMiyagi. Kxrly has previously worked with the likes of Japanese Dancehall Artist HibiKilla, Recording Artist/Producer Kris Karz, Marijuana brand LiveHigh, and Recording Artist Leno Banton. Kxrly gives Govana’s “BFF.” a visual style that takes us back to the days of 8Bit Graphics, which can be found in old school video games. The unlikely collaboration proves to be a great look, and we look forward to more from KxrlyMiyagi. Govana stays busy with the music, and was previously featured on the single, “Riches & Power” with Dancehall duo, The Yutes.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Brick & Lace – Love Is Wicked (2007)

For today’s Oldies Sunday selection, we go back to a time when Trucker Hats were back in style, Von Dutch was a brand people were familiar with, Jamaica was trending Internationally thanks to a few great Jamaican Artists, and this Jamaican girl group were on the verge of blowing up overseas. That girl group originally consisted of sisters Nailah, Nyanda, and Tasha Thorbourne, but was later reduced to just Nailah and Nyanda, and they were called, “Brick & Lace“! Today, we check out “Love Is Wicked“.

Produced by Steven “Lenky” Marsden on the “Diwali Riddim“ and released in 2007, Brick & Lace spoke about a love that despite being everything they wanted and they’d give their all for it, that person that gave the love never belonged to them, and has resulted in hurt. The song’s upbeat production made it a danceable one, and the hook was very catchy. The deliveries on “Love Is Wicked” stood out thanks to Nailah’s singing and Nyanda’s singjaying, and it quickly became a hit in Jamaica, and parts of the world.

“Love Is Wicked” successfully crossed over to the International market, and was featured in the soundtrack to “Bratz: The Movie“, got featured on “Jimmy Kimmel Live“, was included in the soundtrack for the “Sims 2” video game, and has enjoyed a number of remixes. Brick & Lace capitalized off the success of “Love Is Wicked” with a debut album of the same name which was released in 2007.

Since the release of “Love Is Wicked”, Brick & Lace went on to release a few more singles while being signed to Akon’s Kon Live label, formed a songwriting team with sisters Tasha and Candace called Bloodline, launched solo careers (Nailah goes by “Nyla” while Nyanda used her name), and the duo is currently enjoying TikTok love as “Love Is Wicked” has been gaining viral success since 2021, and grew even more thanks to TikToker Cynesse. Will the Thorbourne sisters return to the scene as a duo? Who knows, but “Love Is Wicked” remains a classic.

Brothers Chris and Santris, more popularly known as The Yutes, have been making their names connect in various parts of the globe, presenting a sound that aims to stand out from what you’re familiar with. You can say they’re genre-bending, and they are enjoying success from that. Currently finalizing their upcoming album, they keep things interesting with the video for the single, “Riches & Power“.

“Riches & Power” is a Cin-Trax produced collaboration with The Yutes and Dancehall Artist Govana, and together they let you know what they’re all about, getting to the money by any means. It’s a Ghetto yute’s dream to reap success and elevate from poverty, and the Artists amplify that in their music. With a music video directed by Shane Creative, the Artists highlight Spanish Town, the home of many who wish to break from the oppression. The video later finds them living it up on a Beachfront property, with some of the luxuries and benefits of success. The Yutes are the sons of Dancehall Artist Mr. Lexx, and they look to cover more ground with the release of their album later this year.

His brand and influence continues to spread around the world, and new music keeps on coming. With a year that already found him keeping the streets happy, he taps into the UK for a collaboration called, “Amazing“.

Featuring Stefflon Don and produced by Dunw3ll on the “Play Station Riddim“, Vybz Kartel has something for the ladies here. While Addi knows what to say to make the ladies go crazy, Stefflon is ready to show up at your front door with all you need and more. Vybz and Stefflon have collaborated a couple times before, and if there’s a joint project to happen with them, please make the necessary connections for its release. Stefflon Don has been tapping in with a few Dancehall Artists and Producers, and we believe she’ll be releasing something amazing later this year. World Boss meets The Don!

Bwoizy Sees Green With Debut Single!

Jamaican Content Creator/Media Personality Aamir Cunningham, more popularly known as “Bwoizy“, has been making waves with his dose of humour and unique thoughts on Social Media for quite some time. Thanks to Instagram and TikTok, he has connected with many who can relate to his content and views, and his fanbase has been growing exponentially. As with many who have found viral fame, Bwoizy decided to step into the lane of Music, and he looks to make a dent with the release of his debut single, “I See Green“.

Produced by DarkSideOnTheTrack and with the assistance of Lucas Musiq, Bwoizy is feeling, seeing, and being embodied in the colour Green. Whether he’s about getting to the money, living life the way he wants to, or focused on making it to the top, Bwoizy’s path is lined with Jade, with an Emerald lighting it along the way. The lyrics cleverly reference a few green things here, and Bwoizy presents a song with a catchy flow that we believe many of his fans have already adopted. We hope a certain Political Party doesn’t get their hands on this, and if they do, compensate the young man and his team properly.

Bwoizy looks to expand his brand in many ways, will music be one that gives him similar success as his peers who have ventured into it? Only time will tell.

Recording Artist D.A.Jay has been busy taking his talents to various parts of the world, steadily building his movement in the process. The years have been good to him and his career, and his music has inspired many, thanks to the positive and uplifting messages he delivers. Ready to take things to another level, D.A.Jay is gearing up to release the new album, “Polarity 2”.

“Polarity 2” is the long-awaited follow up to his 2018 “Polarity” album, and it will be his latest release since the 2019 “Invincible” EP. Fans can expect D.A.Jay’s 3rd album to deliver great content, with the Artist tapping into new sounds and subject matter that will surprise listeners, but make for a solid body of work. The album will be produced entirely by Dale “Dizzle” Virgo of DZL Records, further cementing their friendship, and knack for making great music together. “Polarity 2” will also feature a collaboration with Dancehall/Reggae Artist Agent Sasco, who previously appeared on his “Invincible” EP. 

“This new project is one of my favourites,” D.A.Jay shared. “I called it ‘Polarity 2’ because it’s me trying to be transparent to my fans, showing both sides of my thoughts. I was honest with myself in the Recording Booth. I know I have fans from day one who will be shocked and maybe a little confused by some of the new content, but I assure you my aspirations as an Artist remains the same. In the end, everything will all make sense. To my new fans, I say welcome. Follow me on this journey while I put together pieces of a puzzle, and you’ll get to see the big picture in the end.”

D.A.Jay started his career as a Gospel Artist, and has extended his songwriting skills for various Artists including Dancehall Artist Bounty Killa. D.A.Jay has been working with Dale “Dizzle” Virgo since 2004, and the connection resulted in numerous releases that have done well locally, and Internationally. Dale “Dizzle” Virgo is a multiplatinum Producer who resides in Kingston, and is the mind and muscle behind DZL Records. Dale Virgo has worked with the likes of Rihanna, Drake, Christopher Martin, Ikaya, and Chronixx, and has aided in the development of Artists like Kim Nain, Devin Di Dakta, Scantana, Senita Mogul, and many others.

D.A.Jay’s “Polarity 2” album will be released on September 23 on all Digital Music Streaming platforms through DZL Records.
