Today’s new music comes from Pop artists Will.I.Am and Cody Wise with a little twist. Titled “Birthday” and produced by Will.I.Am and Damien LeRoy, this features samples from Jamaica’s own Aidonia (Fi Di Jockey) and Bounty Killa. The song is basically a feel good song that promotes living life to the fullest all the time and celebrating it like it’s your birthday. Sounds like a hit to me here and it’s very interesting to hear Dancehall being sampled in this. Check out the song below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW MUSIC: @TheWizardJA – Toppanaris
Stepping on the scene is Singer/Producer Natassja Hammond a.k.a. The Wizard with a new single. Titled “Toppanaris” and self produced, Wiz speaks about being the original one around, separating herself from everyone, how she has a commanding presence and should be treated like royalty and will always step out like a champion. I like the production and her delivery on this one. I’ll admit I’m late to her music but I know she’s a part of the team that brought you Kat Dahlia’s “Mash It Up”. Jamaica is a bubbling pot of talent that can go toe to toe with any genre out there. Check out the track below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
NEW MUSIC: @EmperorRanks – Big Time
After being away from a Jamaican studio in years, Shabba Ranks got back to his roots and released a new single. Titled “Big Time” and produced by JukeBoxx Productions on the “Greatest Creation Riddim“, the veteran Deejay shows us that he has what it takes to still rock the microphone. He also tells us that he’s needed in Dancehall Music and will always “give it to dem” when he’s summoned. Many were delighted to hear Shabba pick up the microphone after hearing him on Rapper A$AP Ferg’s “Shabba (Remix)” so will this new single mean there’ll be more in store? NEW MUSIC: @IggyAzalea x @Charli_XCX – Fancy (@AriezYxB Remix)

Dropping off the first single off his upcoming “Olympus EP” is the Youngest x Baddest member, DJ Ariez. Here he remixes the Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX single, “Fancy“. Throwing his own production to the track, Ariez adds more hype to the Australian Rapper’s hit. Not a bad effort here from the DJ as remixing popular singles isn’t a rare thing in Jamaica and has been known to be a hit at parties. Check out the original and remixed songs below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Courtney John – I Go Crazy (2000)
Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Reggae artist formerly known as “Yogie“, Courtney John. Titled “I Go Crazy“, this was a Reggae remake of the 1977 Paul Davis song of the same name. “I Go Crazy” was featured on John’s debut album “Miracles” which was released in 2000. The song spoke about John meeting an old lover who he thought he has fully gotten over, only to end up recapturing feelings for her again. Produced by the artist himself, this delivered a beautiful production and recruited great back up singers. Although his first attempt in the entertainment industry started in 1993, “I Go Crazy” was Courtney John’s breakout single with a great music video to match.

NEW VIDEO: @OnstageTV Interviews @EmperorRanks
Recently Deejay Shabba Ranks made a visit to Jamaica but during his short stay he managed to do what he hasn’t done locally in decades…record music. Traveling with a mob in Half Way Tree, Winford Williams managed to catch Shabba to speak on a few things. Here Shabba spoke about being in Jamaica to celebrate Mother’s Day, recording in Jamaica for the first time in many years, visiting his old communities, his views on Dancehall recently including the conviction of Vybz Kartel, family life, and possibilities of performing in Jamaica again. Good to see Shabba still doing his thing and his new single sounds great from the preview that was provided. Get together that “Gorilla Money” promoters.
