.@BaddaGeneral Tackles The Alice/Crab Controversy In “Inna E Soup”

Over the past few days, you may have heard “Alice“, “Nadine“, “Heroes Circle“, “Crab” and “Crab circle” mentioned all over Jamaican media. There are enough videos out talking about the controversial situation, so we’ll spare you that. Knowing how creative we can get, the situation has been parodied a number of times for Social Media. Enter Selector/Producer/Recording Artist Badda General who chimes in on the controversy with his track, “Inna E Soup“.

Known for cleverly covering current events in his music, Badda General questions the legitimacy of certain street food on “Inna E Soup”. The recent Heroes Circle Crab/Alice/Nadine controversy expelled some rather disgusting details, and Badda is seeking answers as to not put himself and others in poor health. Badda previewed his song on Social Media, and was given mostly positive feedback. While the situation is serious, the jokes have including his comical single, and will continue to fly. At this time however, we hope Nadine is safe and protected. Be careful out there.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Buccaneer – Bruk Out (@Rancid Remix) (1998)

Yesterday, we highlighted an Artist that released a Post-Punk single done in Patois. While we made the argument that Jamaicans are capable of doing anything including dabbling in musical genres that may be out of the norm, we wanted to drive that point even further for today’s Oldies Sunday selection. Today we feature Dancehall Artist/Producer Buccaneer’sBruk Out (Rancid Remix)“.

Produced by Punk Rock Band Rancid, Buccaneer’s “Bruk Out (Rancid Remix)” was released in 1998 through Main Street Records. The original “Bruk Out” was released in the same year, but was produced by Danny Browne on the “Heavy Metal Riddim“. The track was aimed for the ladies who carried themselves well in and out the streets, who oozed sex appeal, and stood out from the rest. The original version was a hit for Buccaneer, but the Rancid version helped to bring in a new audience for him locally and Internationally. Buccaneer previously dabbled in Opera, Pop, and Hip Hop tracks, so tapping into Rock/Punk Rock was normal for him. Both versions of “Bruk Out” were featured on the 1998 album “Da Opera“, and the Rancid version was featured on the “Give ‘Em The Boot II” compilation album by Hellcat Records.

Since the release of “Bruk Out (Rancid Remix)”, Buccaneer continued to have some success as an Artist and Producer over the years. He showed many to think outside of the box, and he is still recognized for his contributions. Time to bruk out bruk out!

Ever Heard Post-Punk In Patois? @TrxpGoth & Indie Anthony Give Us, “VEX”

Music is limitless, and when it comes to music taste, many are diverse in that field. While many would believe the Caribbean population only cares for the sounds of Reggae, Soca, Latin Music, Hip Hop, Afrobeats, R&B, and Pop in a sense, there are those who not only love, but dabbled in the fields of Heavy Metal, Rock, EDM, Trance, or even going back to the days of Disco to name a few. Enter Dxrkknght, a Florida-based Post-Punk Recording Artist who brings out his own wave of “Trap Goth” music. He also shares a Jamaican background. Why did we bring him up? Because he dropped a Post-Punk single called, “VEX“!

Done in collaboration with Jamaican-American Artist Indie Anthony and produced by GREYSKIES, we get a Post-Punk (also known as New Musick) song by Drkknght done entirely in Patois. “VEX” speaks about a friendship that became distant in a couple of ways, had disagreements, and everything has left one party feeling confused, and trying to find out what made things change. Hearing the Jamaican influence on something that many would refer to as a “White man thing” is not a new phenomenon as there are just as many Jamaican remixes to  almost any music out there, and many readers would be surprised at how far we’ve gone with it. Take one of our Oldies Sunday entries featuring legendary US-based Punk Rock band Bad Brains, or this one that helped to open the door for Japanese Dancehall, or even this Disco hit done by a Jamaican, and yes, Vybz Kartel dabbled in Rock too. We deh everyweh!

Drkknght looks to create a bigger presence with his Trap Goth, Alt Rock, and Dark Wave music to more parts of the world, and connect with new listeners, territories, and concepts. Tek in this one if you dare!
