.@PopDollarz Borrows @Ini_Kamoze’s “Hot Stepper” For A “Lyrical Anthem”!

That’s how we dweet man! It’s no surprise that Dancehall/Reggae music enjoyed great crossover success in the US market in the 90s. From acts like Shabba Ranks, Super Cat, and Bounty Killa, to dance moves like “Pepperseed”, “Bogle”, and “Butterfly”, Jamaica’s music culture went places. Looking to the 90s for his latest track, Bronx Rapper Pop Dollarz drops “Lyrical Anthem“! Borrowing Ini Kamoze’s smash hit, “Here Comes The Hot Stepper“, Dollarz goes in a lil over the Salaam Remi production while allowing the OG track to breathe throughout. A nice shout out to the 90s Dancehall, and many places that bumped the music back then. Remember when “Hot Stepper” got featured in a JC Penny Commercial? Still love you like that…

.@ArtistHBTL Enlists @TheAlkaline For New Single, “Nonchalant”!

Weeks ago, Hip Hop Artist A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie posted a photo on Instagram which featured the Vendetta Boss, Alkaline. In the caption, Boogie asked for 50,000 likes as permission to collaborate with the Dancehall Artist. A couple hundred thousand likes (and a deleted post) later, the collab came in the form of the single, “Nonchalant“! Speaking on the lifestyles they live, they warn the ladies that they’re not Romeos so don’t expect any exclusivity. Blending both of their signature sounds, you’ll find yourself rocking to this collaboration, and wanting to hear more from them. Maybe they have more in store, would be interesting if they made an EP together as well. What do you think? Check out the track below, and follow us on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.

Word is they’re shooting a video, and you know fans from all over are trying to get some camera time with Queen Bey and Jigga. 1. One of Beyonce’s biggest singles, “Run The World (Girls)“, sampled Dancehall.

Beyonce’s 2011 single was the anthem for Women Empowerment worldwide, and off the album, “4“. Produced by The-Dream, Switch, and Shea Taylor, the single sampled “Pon De Floor“, a collaborative effort between Major Lazer and Dancehall Icon Vybz Kartel. Beyonce’s single went on to become one of her biggest ones to date, and gave the “World Boss” some writing credit too.

2. Jay Z has rapped over a few Dancehall/Reggae samples.

Jay Z’s from Brooklyn, New York, an area that is heavily populated by Caribbean folks. He must have some sort of Jamaican influence in his songs, right? He has thrown some patois in the lyrics, but singles like “On To The Next One” off his “Magna Carter…Holy Grail” album borrowed a piece of Cutty Rank’s infamous intro off his 1992 single, “A Who Seh Me Dun“. Other samples include Max Romeo’sChase The Devil“, which was featured on “Lucifer“, the late John Holt’sI Will” on “Encore“, Sizzla’sSolid As A Rock” on “Crown“, and Sister Nancy’sBam Bam” and Jacob Miller’sTenement Yard” on “Bam“. Big up the Producers involved.
