Time For Lovin’: @Protoje Drops A New Anthem, “‘Bout Noon”!

This a nuh no play ting, Protoje is back with another tune that’ll you’ll sing over and over. With a new Album on the way, he fires off, “‘Bout Noon“! With Winta James and Lamont “Monty” Savory handling the boards, Diggy may have just dropped a tune that can almost take over “Rasta Love” for the top spot as the new favourite. If you’ve never seen the impact “Rasta Love” had on the ladies when it dropped, you missed out on a moment. With “‘Bout Noon”, this calls for the secret getaways, the spontaneous dates, and even the late night Romantic Comedy watching while you and your significant other stay cozy under the fuzzy blanket. Make memories that’ll last forever off this. Lyric video provided by the talented Ikem Smith, and it’ll definitely have you wanting your “bae“. Be on the look out for Protoje’s currently untitled 4th Album that should show its face later this year. For now, give the new tune a few listens below.

2017 Faves: @Protoje – BLOOD MONEY (#1)

As 2017 comes to a close, we look back at a few songs that were favourites on the Blog for the year. While we can’t name EVERY one, we’ll give you 5 (in no particular order so hold off on the ego) to reminisce on, or get familiar with.

Ending our list today is the one they call “Diggy British“, Protoje with “BLXXD MONEY (a.k.a. BLXXD MONEY)”! Produced by Winta James and released in February, Protoje sees red as he calls out Corruption, Classism, Injustice, and those who practice it in Jamaica. From Government leaders to those names in high places, Protoje starts a revolution, and wants you to be a part of it. Protoje never watched no face when rinsing this tune this year as he has painted the scene red at Festivals, Radio stops, and even at the recently held Prime Minister’s Youth Awards Ceremony. A tune that lifted the veil for many this year. Thank you for checking out our “2017 Faves“(see the rest here). We hope you enjoyed our selections, and we wish you an awesome 2018! Check out “BLXXD MONEY” below!

@Protoje’s “Answer To Your Name” Featured In New @LethalWeaponFox Episode!

It’s been over two years since the release of Recording Artist Protoje’s “Ancient Future“, and it’s still a banger! What’s your favourite song off of it? Still wish it won a Grammy. If you’re a viewer of the hit FOX TV series Lethal Weapon, then you might’ve heard a familiar song from the Artist in their latest episode. Kicking off the first 30 seconds was the first single off the 2015 Album, “Answer To Your Name“! Produced by Winta James and Lewis Planter, Protoje went into storytelling mode on this one and had influences of Ska throughout the Production.

Lethal Weapon is a TV series based on the popular “Buddy Cop” Comedy Movie franchise which stars Comedian Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford. The Movie starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Sidenote: Congrats to the new Dad Protoje, we hope the Lion Cub is ready for a fun life filled with good music and sights to see. Check out the clip below.

@Protoje & @Mortimer876 Aim To Open Your Eyes With “Truths And Rights”!

With fists raised, Protoje and Mortimer deliver an audio revolution with “Truths And Rights“! Produced by Winta James, the duo kick down the doors of injustice, inequality, oppression, and poverty, and encourage listeners to get in formation to set the oppressed free, and get people that mean the world well in power! With so much going on in the world, we all want better for ourselves, our Children, and their Children…but the good fight has to happen in order to see positive changes. Featured on the cover of the single is one of the photos taken during the Grenadian Revolution in March of 1979 which overthrew the government of Eric Gairy, the 1st Prime Minister of the Island by Maurice Bishop (Politician and leader of the New Jewel Movement (NJM)). Forward Ever, Backward Never! Another anthem from Diggy British and the young Mortimer! Be militant and check out the track below.

@Protoje Stirs The Pot Again With The Official Video For “Blood Money”!

After waking up Jamaica with his crimson tinged single earlier this year, the official visual for Protoje’sBLXXD MONEY” is finally here! Directed by Che Kothari with Production by Claire Osman, viewers get a glimpse of the many forms of corruption, a broader look than the lyrics which spoke about corruption in high places, and the various turns made throughout its running time. The video targets every class, and those who practice the dirty ways will eventually see a fall. A statement making song that turned into a powerful video, more like “What A BLXXDCLXXT Film“! Watch the visual below.

REVIEW: @Protoje’s “For The Culture” Event + Highlights

The Hope Gardens Shell Bandstand served as the perfect backdrop to showcase some of Reggae’s young royals to an eager audience of Locals and Tourists all with one thing in common…a love for the Culture. I personally gave up on Music in Jamaica until I came across these new school of Reggae Royals who through their socially conscious offerings, give honour to the many men and women who preceded them in the genre…

The gates opened at 7:30 Pm and the DJ for the night Yaadcore kept the early patrons entertained on the turntables, and DJ Jimmy Q of NewsTalk 93 FM handled hosting duties. By 9 Pm, the venue was almost full and the show kicked off with the opening act Sevana. Featuring cuts off her Sevana EP and even debuting a new song and a remix to Protoje’s “Love Gone Cold” (she was featured on the original), she had the audience mesmerized as she belted out tune after tune. I still refused to believe she did all that on a sore throat (Editor’s Note: She’s my Hero!!). By the time ZJ Sparks gave Protoje & The Indiggnation the greatest introduction ever, the venue was packed with patrons who were eager to sing and dance along with them.
