Firstly, Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers out there. In this time of the year, many Mothers are honoured, loved, and remembered. Much love to the Mamas. For “Oldies Sunday“, we go back in time to share a tribute to the Mothers that had our backs. We check out Ranking Dread’s “My Mommy A The Nicest Mommy“.

Produced by Tad Dawkings Sr. and Jr., U. Brown, and Ranking Joe and released through Tad’s Records in 1982, Ranking Dread made a special dedication in “My Mommy A The Nicest Mommy”. The Deejay shared that despite her being a single Mother with no Father present, she ensured that he was raised with morals and values, and all the necessities to make a him a great Man in the world. From his childhood days to now an Adult, he dearly recalls moments with his Mother, and salutes her for doing the best could. If you can, make today special for Mom. Otherwise, make her days special as often as possible.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Echo Minott – My Mommy (1984)

First off, Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms, Mamas, Grandmas, Aunties, Stepmoms, and every type of Mother. Wishing you all the best! Today on Oldies Sunday, we make a dedication to all of them. For our selection, we highlight Echo Minott’s “My Mommy“.

Produced by Harry “Big J” Johnson and released in 1984 through Shuttle Records (and in 1985 through Sunset Records), Echo Minott delivered a dedication to his Mother, showing immense gratitude in the process. While all of us have a great relationship with their Mother, Echo went into detail the important roles she has played in his life, and even showing love to his Father in some parts. “My Mommy” was well received by fans, and was featured on his 1985 album, “Rock & Calypso“.

After the release of “My Mommy”, Echo Minott went on to release more music before taking a break from the Music Industry in the early 90s, returning with a few releases in the 2010s, an album in 2021 called “Man A Do Road” with DJ Air Afrique, and a single in 2022 with Laurent Squarta.

Sizzla Makes A Dedication To All Mothers On “Happy Mother’s Day”!

May 9 is a day that is celebrated as “Mother’s Day”. The day finds many Mothers being celebrated, showered with gifts and special treatment, and loved in many ways. In the Caribbean, you can hear dedications of all sorts on the Radio, and events were held in the honour of many Moms. Known for delivering the classic “Thank You Mama” in the mid 2000s, Reggae Icon Sizzla Kalonji surprises the world with the release of “Happy Mother’s Day”!

Produced and released through his Kalonji Music Production, Sizzla brings a wonderful presentation of uplifting lyrics, timeless melodies, and a powerful dedication to all the Mothers out there. While many Mothers are no longer present with some of us, Sizzla looks to comfort those who miss them, and further emphasize that a Mother is one of the most important persons in one’s life. Love, honour, cherish, celebrate, and respect Mama!

Happy Mother’s Day! From the Mama to the Aunty, to the Grandma, to the Foster Mom, to the Step Mom, you are appreciated! To show some appreciation, we pulled up this selection from Dub Poet, Yasus Afari titled, “My Mother Who Fathered Me“. Produced by Yasus for the Fathers Africa and Senya-Cum Labels in 1995, the Dub Poet expresses his love for the one he calls, “Mama”. From his birth, to being a man, he speaks on the times his Mother was there for him and other siblings. He also mentions her qualities and the efforts she’s made to ensure the family is good. The single was also a part of his “Honour Crown H.I.M.” album that was released in 1997.

Known for giving young artists a chance at stardom, Vybz Kartel is now watching his own kids take a crack at a Musical career. Little Addi and Little Vybz, known as “PG 13“, joined Winford Williams on the Onstage set for their first ever interview. Here they spoke about their stage name, their song making process, school life, future ambitions, and following in their father’s footsteps. It’s good to see Vybz Kartel’s offspring aiming to make a mark. They were really nervous here. They also premiered the video for their single “Mommy” and performed “Hello Daddy“. He may be the “World Boss” but at the end of the day he is someone’s child and today along with his sons PG 13, they deliver a song for the mothers. Titled “Love Mommy” and produced by Short Boss Muzik, Vybz, Little Addi and Little Vybz show love to mom, dedicating their all to her, letting her know she’s irreplaceable, and showing respect to everyone’s mother. Vybz is no stranger to making songs for mothers and this is a decent effort for being the first collaboration with his sons. A Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers from 13th Street Promotions.
