Today (Nov. 4), we celebrate the birthday of one of Dancehall’s most interesting Artists, Tommy Lee Sparta. Since the early 2010s. Tommy Lee Sparta took over Dancehall with his darkness, and Sparta Badness. A hitmaker and a controversial individual, he is recognized the world over, and continues to influence many. Today we celebrate not only his birthday, but his contributions to the music scene with our latest Playlist titled, “The Guzu Playlist“.

For over 7 1/2 hours, get your ears ready for a collection of some of Tommy Lee Sparta’s most recognized singles, hits, collaborations, and stand out tracks. The Sparta Boss who started out as a member of Vybz Kartel’s Portmore Empire, has come a long way, and has a sizable catalogue that is pretty valuable. A few years ago, we celebrated the late “King Of Pop” Michael Jackson by highlighting some of the popular Jamaican songs that covered his classics. Michael Jackson had and still has a strong musical influence on Jamaica, and tributes are made to him in various ways. Today, we present to you a special Playlist highlighting a few more covers called, “Jamaica Sings Michael Jackson!“.

Consisting of 20 tracks, we have a selection of Artists who all shared a love for Michael Jackson and his music, and they paid tribute to him in their own way. From Sugar Minott, to Vybz Kartel, to Tarrus Riley, to Christopher Martin, to Junior Reid, enjoy these few minutes of great music. Michael Jackson would’ve been 65 today, and many people around the world are celebrating his life and legacy. Long live the King Of Pop!

Digital music streaming giant Audiomack continues to set trends when it comes to highlighting quality music, and showcasing talented creators from around the world. The Audiomack world is filled with original content that has found favor with old and new users of the platform, and they continue to make their mark as the go-to streaming platform to build fanbases, and release unique content. They look to expand their dominance with the launch of their new Playlist series, “Made In Caribbean”.

“Made In Caribbean” is a quarterly new series that seeks to exhibit the ever-evolving style of the Caribbean Artist, the music genres that emerge from the Caribbean, and the DJs who are responsible for breaking these Artists and sounds. Derived from the success of Audiomack’s specially-curated Playlists, “Made In Caribbean” is the brainchild of Tanya Lawson, Director of Audiomack’s Strategic Marketing for the Caribbean and Gospel Music division, and is focused on putting the best on display. With 25 Islands to choose from, Audiomack will select a top DJ from each Island, who will then curate a Playlist that features homegrown talent. 

“Made In Caribbean” promises to bring an extra boost to the local music industry, encouraging more Artists to go back to their roots when creating and representing the global stage. Top selectors from the Caribbean including Jamaica’s Boom Boom, DJ Spade from Turks & Caicos, Trinidad’s DJ Echo, Rusty G from Bermuda, and TroopahLive From the Virgin Islands, Guyana’s PriinceMuzik, DJ Quest from Antigua, and Haiti’s Michael Brun have been recruited, and are gearing up to launch their respective Playlists featuring their handpicked Artists.

Jamaica Salutes Legendary Songwriter Thom Bell In Our New Playlist!

As we close another Black History Month, we use this last day to honour a Jamaican who helped to shape the musical landscape. His name is Thom Bell, and he is the co-creator of the “Philadelphia Soul” that reigned the 1970s. A Songwriter, Producer, Composer, and Arranger, Thom Bell gave the world classics, and has influenced generations. Today, we salute him with our latest Playlist titled, “Jamaica Sings For Thom Bell“.

Featuring 14 tracks (more would’ve been added if they were available for streaming), we highlight some of the Jamaican Artists who have covered songs that were either written, produced, or arranged by Thom Bell. From John Holt, to Horace Andy, to Boris Gardiner, to Alton Ellis, to Etana, we hear covers of classics by The Delfonics, Deneice Williams, The Stylistics, and more. Listeners can learn something new, or reconnect with songs that affected them in ways when they first heard them in the new Playlist. Soul Music along with R&B sounds have a heavy influence in Jamaican music, so it’s only right that many of the American classics were covered by some of the Jamaican greats. The late Thom Bell gave the world something special, and his work will continue to entertain and inspire. Thank you for everything Thom Bell, rest well.

On February 8, the music world lost one of the most influential persons in Pop Music, the late Burt Bacharach. With his songwriting, production, and various compositions whether solo or done with collaborators, Bacharach has given us some of the greatest songs and sounds, helped to elevate the careers of some of the best Artists including Dionne Warwick, Tom Jones, and Dusty Springfield, and scored Films such as “Casino Royale” (a James Bond Parody), “Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid“, “Arthur“, and “A Boy Called Po“. His work has influenced many, and in our latest Playlist, we cover some of the Jamaican Artists who have covered his songs.

In the “Jamaica Sings Burt Bacharach!” Playlist, we’ve featured 18 tracks that have given hit songs from the late Burt Bacharach a Jamaican touch. From Dennis Brown, to Wayne Wonder, to Diana King, to Dobby Dobson, get yourself familiar or reacquainted with some great music that came to life by Bacharach’s genius. Christmas Day is almost here, and the parties have already started. Christmas is celebrated by all sorts of people from different backgrounds, but what about the Scammers and Choppas? While they use the other days of the year to relish in their spoils from various activities, how do they celebrate Christmas? Well, while we can’t answer that, we made a Playlist just for those who want to pretend to live like a Choppa during Christmas for a while.
