Ready for some good vibes today? The vibe is the only one of its kind, and it’s from a special place. It’s called a few names, but St. Kitts/USVI Artist Bliss call it the West Indies, and she’s taking you to the “Wess Side“.

Produced by Bliss Productions and featuring Florida-based Artist Kaylan Arnold, Bliss lets everyone know that the “Wess Side” is the best side, and she and Kaylan team up for a smooth collaboration. Bliss has been on the scene for a number of years, and has been connecting with her audience with songs about love and life. Get familiar with Bliss’ world, and her sound today. Kaylan Arnold has been making a lot of noise in South Florida, has connected with some great names, and connected with many through her live performances. Love is weird sometimes. You can express love and make efforts in love for the next person, and it’s a 50/50 chance for it to be reciprocated. For Jamaican-born/UK-based R&B Artist Äyanna, she wants her energy matched when it comes to love. She talks about it in the video for her new single, “Say You Love Me“.

Directed by Priya Minhas, Äyanna approaches her love interest to speak his truth. Sometimes it’s good to give without expecting, but in her case, if he has feelings for her, he needs to say it out loud. She wants him to meet her halfway, and don’t hold back with loving her, needing her, and trusting her. The video is presented beautifully between Äyanna performing on stage, joining dancers in a few scenes, and conversing with her lover at a table. The video is also a part of a series that includes previously released “Girlfriend“. Äyanna is signed to the LVRN label, and has worked with the likes of DJ Snake, Spinall, and Summer Walker.

UK Artist Nao is back on the scene, and is ready to give the people great music. She scored a number of hits over the years including “Another Lifetime“, and she looks secure even more with the help of upcoming releases. She taps into her Caribbean background for her new single, “Balance“.

Featuring Dancehall Artist Skillibeng, Nao gives us a high energy track about feelings and connecting with the right energy that will really have you dancing. Nao steps out boldly on this one, and Skillibeng comes through with some witty lines, and an attitude that will have the ladies reaching out. You can say she was chill with her delivery while Skillibeng brought the heat! The video was shot in Jamaica, and features a few Dancers that make us want to join in on the fun.  Nao is gearing up to release her best work since 2021’s “And Then Life Was Beautiful“. She promises to give listeners another side to her, and the sounds will have you keeping her on repeat. Skilli chalks up another big International collaboration. “Balance” was produced by Omega, Stint, and Nao, and released through Little Tokyo.

Earlier this year, US Recording Artist/Actress Janelle Monaé announced that she will be releasing her latest album, “The Age Of Pleasure“. Along with that came the single “Lipstick Lover“. While the racy visual showed another side of her, it contained the familiar sound of Dancehall Artist Mad Cobra’s 1992 hit, “Flex“. With the new album just released, a few more familiar sounds joined in.

On Janelle Monaé’s “The Age Of Pleasure” album, Jamaican Recording Artists Derrick Harriott, Barrington Levy, Sister Nancy, and Queen Patra all join Mad Cobra on a few tracks. On the 2nd track “Champagne S***“, Levy’s 1984 hit “Murderer” was sampled. The classic track also appears on the follow up track, “Black Sugar Beach“. “Murderer” was produced by Hyman Wright and Pat Chin, and released through the Grade One label. Sister Nancy’s 1982 hit “Bam Bam” was sampled on the track “Water Slide“. Patra’s “Whining Skill” from her 1993 debut album “Queen Of The Pack” was also sampled on the track. “Bam Bam” secures the title of the most sampled Jamaican song, and we have a Playlist and a few words about it here. Sister Nancy is also a featured Artist, appearing on the track, “French 75“. “Whining” was produced by Tony “CD” Kelly and Clifton “Specialist” Dillon. The legendary Grace Jones also appears on the album as a featured Artist, delivering on “Oooh La La“. Coming to the closing of the album, Derrick Harriott’s 1967 classic, “The Loser” was sampled on the track, “Only Have Eyes 42“. The track was released through Crystal Records, and produced by Harriott. Many have speculated that Monaé would have Jamaican influences on her new album, and what was brought forward did not disappoint.

To kick off the rollout for the EP, Joby released the single “Bare“, which was met with positive feedback. As we close another Black History Month, we use this last day to honour a Jamaican who helped to shape the musical landscape. His name is Thom Bell, and he is the co-creator of the “Philadelphia Soul” that reigned the 1970s. A Songwriter, Producer, Composer, and Arranger, Thom Bell gave the world classics, and has influenced generations. Today, we salute him with our latest Playlist titled, “Jamaica Sings For Thom Bell“.

Featuring 14 tracks (more would’ve been added if they were available for streaming), we highlight some of the Jamaican Artists who have covered songs that were either written, produced, or arranged by Thom Bell. From John Holt, to Horace Andy, to Boris Gardiner, to Alton Ellis, to Etana, we hear covers of classics by The Delfonics, Deneice Williams, The Stylistics, and more. Listeners can learn something new, or reconnect with songs that affected them in ways when they first heard them in the new Playlist. Soul Music along with R&B sounds have a heavy influence in Jamaican music, so it’s only right that many of the American classics were covered by some of the Jamaican greats. The late Thom Bell gave the world something special, and his work will continue to entertain and inspire. Thank you for everything Thom Bell, rest well.
